Flea bass

Im after a more versitile bass i think. But i really have no reference point. i have had only 3 basses, 2 jazz and a p. Ive had my 78 quite a while now and a play it every week with a rock/pop covers band. Always with the tone right up, and the eq on my amp boosting the mids and highs quite a lot. I have some wizard pups in at the moment. I have to use my amp to adjust my sound, which i dont like. I would like a bass that needs more taming! Maybe the answer lies in an onboard pre. Although the sansamp i use doesnt really bring it to life either.

Flea bass

I am looking to maybe oflfoad my 78 jazz and get a more versitile bass. I have certainly not convinced myself yet. I have quite a few basses that take my fancy. Heard a Lakland 55/02 live and it sounded awesome. Lakland DJ. Theres a shuker 4 going on this site for less than £1k. Ive always fancied a stingray, white or red with maple neck. Sadowsky But, looking at a couple of flea basses for sale on here made me think more about these. Are they as good as listed above? Or would i just be paying more for the connection to Mr Flea? So what would you do with £1k and all these choices. Would a Flea allow me to steal some of the guitarists limelight down the pub on a friday night? Just had a thought, maybe i should just put a j retro in my jazz.

7.
Blimey Russ, If I could I'd have it back in a shot. Somebody buy my Lakland!
Sell your lakland to me.
8.
few sound engineers will get close to the bass sound you've spent years perfecting unless you work hard with them to get it right. I've also found that plenty of headroom on the backline certainly helps when you get on a larger stage and your band are suddnely spread further apart than you're used to at rehearsals. I've worked semi pro on and off for around 30 years and currently use a 1200w 4 ohm rig, (or half of it for v small venues). There's no such thing as too much power!
+1 Played a marquee last night with my all new Berg nv610. Oh, its nice. Last cab ill be buying for a long time. Whats your 1200 beast then?
9. cant believe you still have this.
10. get somthing from the classifieds on here. £500 will get you some good stuff. the beeps is selling quality eden gear for £700! |(dont know him) more power required. if outside you also need to be going through the pa. you are not going to be able handle it just through your backline. please forgive me if i am teaching you to suck eggs.
11. Has anyone else had problems with their amp cutting out when the signal line in and gain have been clipping? May just be mine but problem solved by keeping an eye on input levels.
12. Ive had the na650 for just over 2 years now. Gig it most weekends 200+ id say. It took me a long time to get this amp set up to my liking, tweaking it here and there and getting the right impedence output for different power outputs, you know, depending on venue size etc. It has a very good hi-fi bass sound IMO. I think most of my problems with the sound are really due to being in a loud 5 piece where it can be difficult to cut through, and not because the amp is incapable. I try to be subtle with eq settings and not to extreme, but in order to cut through the mix i have to set the bass flat, mids +2/3 treble +2/3, not too subtle as the eq on the amp is extremly sensitive. The semi para eq seems good. I dont really know how to use it properly, so i just let a string ring and make adjustments to the frequency to get a frequency that cuts through. One problem i have found with it is the gain/input stage. If you allow it to clip too much it will cut out for a few minutes. Embarrassing during a gig, but i now keep the input levels down on my sansamp and input gain. The next stage is the valve emulation. I prefer S/S sound with my set up, but the valve is a nice sound. This can be blended to suit your tase. The enhance can be very useful. I tend not to use it so much any more, but, it can really warm up the sound and thicken the tone. Next stage is the semi para eq, i find it useful but im sure there is a more professional approach to using it. Then comes the eq. This is one of the great things about this amp, it is so sensitive that slight adjustments are very noticable. The best eq i have used, no questions. Di level/output, very good i have been told by techs then the master. I have owned Trace ah300smx and Gallien Krueger Backline 210. The nemesis is the most expensive and the best amp of the ones i have owned. I have no plans to change it yet, it is a great workhorse. If it all went tits up i would not get another, but ONLY because i will want something better. More high end at least. As for the cabs, I had a 4ohm nsp210. I blew one of the speakers after a few gigs and replaced them with eminence 300w speakers, making it 600w from 250w. Gigged it loads like this, built like a lightweight tank!! If i bought another one of these i would do exactly the same with the speakers. Overall these really are good cabs, but i am now lucky enough to have a bergantino nv610 now which is awesome. I dont think i will ever buy another cab. If you have a chance to buy nemesis stuff, just buy it you wont be disappointed.

obbm's feedback

Bit pointless this feedback thread, i think everyone knows Daves a top geezer!!! Cheers for the Berg Dave. Just gets better and better.
14. Portsmouth area: Iain at www.stiffpromotions.co.uk deals with lots of bands, he maybe some help here and further afield. Wedgewood rooms The cellars
15. where are you based? PM'ed
16. Is the neck original? Its the first i have seen with a standard headstock, not that ive seen many mind you. Outrageous bass! And price it seems.
17. Pics coming when i find the rear pick up cover, (somewhere in the house!). Difficult decision to put this up but i am putting this on offer as a feeler/sale if i can get enough for it. I need to cover the cost of other purchases. If there is any interest please make an offer, or any experts reading this please help me guage the originallity and possible value of this bass. I have owned this bass for 7 years and never had any problems with it. It has my workhorse and played all the time. I have the original fender hardcase. As far as i am aware all parts are original, except the pick ups which are in it at the moment. I installed these "Wizard pups" a year ago, but still have the original pups which work fine. Will include both sets. The paintwork on the bass is badly "crazed". This is definatly like marmite. It has been like this since i have owned it and has not obviously gotten any worse. I have read somewhere that in the late 70s fenders factory were rushing guitars through and skipping the priming process. This maybe why the paintwork has gotten to be like this on many black fenders. Thats it really, i use the bass week in week out it works fine. You are welcome to pop round and play if you are local. I would be open to trades + £800.. I im after a Lakland Duck Dunn, but open minded. Any feedback will be welcomed.

19. Ah, these sre great venues, especially the fountain. Always a great crowd. Hope to catch your band around sometime- i see your band advertised everywhere as we play all the same haunts as you do!
20. Up for grabs is my Eden Nemesis 2x10 4ohm speaker cab. Very LOUD, tight and punchy sound with my na650 head. The cab is in very good condition, it has been gigged a lot but its been looked after well. It has a non-adjustable horn which (eq sorts this) really allows your sound to cut through when needed (i can get a pretty good jj burnel impression through it). It has both speakon + jack input/output for linking. After having had the cab for 3-4 months i blew one of the speaker cones. I replaced both with 2x10" 300w each eminence speakers, so now rarted at 600w. (originally 250w i think). The weight of the cab has increased but only slightly. 23kg These are very good cabs for size weight and sound. I am selling because i have just splashed out on a pro quality cab. I will post pics this evening. I will post for £20-£30 quid i would guess- will search for cheapest Collection available from Portsmouth
21. Is it everything that you want in a bass except for the damaged finish? No. I wanna good active one. I wanna red one. I wanna maple fretboard one. I wanna fretless one. I wanna 5 string one. OOOHHH I dont really know what i want, but i know i dont want rid of my jazz. I think i will have to leave it as is and get a new bass to satisfy at the mo. But i wanna MM one. I wanna status one, i could go on forever. I think Status, never tried one but really like em and i want a modern sound.
