1. Anyone mentioned Neil Murray yet. What a player! Hardly any bass player i know talks about him. Maybe I know a load of ignorant bleeders! http://youtu.be/kOcEzkXYgaE
 2.
Incidentally, a quick search on the social media shows that 5 Seconds of Summer - the one in the pic - is a huge band. They've apparently been touring the world and have millions of FB likes. https://www.facebook...econdsofsummer/ It's emphatically not the band these kids are trying to form.
Isn't it mad how band popularity used to be measured in numbers of records sold. Now it's number of FB likes!
 3. Awww! I thought he was back for a minute!
 4. I'd say the opening to The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky
 5.
And here's Scott Thunes playing 'disco' octaves with a plectrum..
Is it colaiuta on the drums?
 6.
Weird isn't it, Winehouse was a bit "meh" as far as I was concerned.
I find most things a bit 'meh'.....god I'm a miserable twat!
 7. I take all my advice from this guy http://youtu.be/NwVNuyfhF0Q
 8.
She needs to cheer up a bit ...how many songs can one person write about being dumped from a relationship ? I've heard the album and felt quite miserable afterwards.
Yeah! Plus isn't she with someone and has a child with them. I'd be pretty pissed off if I was that guy and she was constantly writing about splitting up with ex fellas. You know, unless she was being disingenuous and just writing to a formula to sell records. But surely not!
 9. I think winehouse dying left a hole in the market for her. Don't think she'd have been as big if she was still around. Jumped into that boohoo break up thing that winehouse had blasted with back to black. Think it's all pretty derivative pop. It's ok I guess. Hate her vocal style tho. Sounds like a sad dog sometimes. Same vocal inflections and tricks all the time. That really big song is it 'someone like you' sounds like a GCSE composition.
 10.
It's not in a song situation. He is showcasing his drum skills. I thought he was superb. Ok, if a band was playing that song and he jizzed all over it, fair enough, you would be annoyed , but he's just letting loose to prove he can do it. I like it!
That is exactly it. I quite liked it. I'd kick him in the nuts if he did it when you were playing the song as a band. But who's to say he would.
 11. My basses hardly ever go out of tune. Then I just use my ears to tune up.
 12.
I don't think I can add anything to this thread, partly because I know nowt, and partly because all the expected posts are already in. I'd really like to know who your '3 others' are though?
His 3 others were Sid Vicious, Guiggsy from Oasis and Peter Hook!
 13.
Hey, someone insulted Vai and Satriani in this thread! Just because it is instrumental does not make it wrong. Vai can perhaps be a bit much but his early stuff had very interesting backing arrangements (listen to the BACKING on Passion and Warfare - it is far more informative than the lead guitar lines). As for Satriani, his early stuff sounds scratchy tone-wise and there are many long runs, but if you listen to his phrasing it is all based around singing the parts. He had lessons with Lennie Tristano who would make him sing the melodies scat-style. Listen to his melody lines and timing and notice that they are mostly hum-able. There may be bursts of speed but who walks the same speed for their entire life? Sometimes you must run. You do not saunter everywhere. I would disagree that it is "showing that you can play for the sake of it" instead of melodies. It is like jazz - I did not understand it at all and could not hear the melodies, being used to rock and pop, so I bought a book on jazz and read it to understand in general terms what was going on. Some of it I don't understand still, but you listen to it differently and listen for interplay, not necessarily melodies that you can hum. I think this was what someone was saying earlier about "not getting it"; perhaps they mean that we're listening for the wrong thing in it, or expecting it to be different. I don't "get" hip-hop but I wouldn't assign all of it to the dustbin - I just don't know what to listen for in it, other than the world's loudest drum sound with poetry over it? I had not heard Jaco so bought his solo CD which I was initially disappointed in, as I was expecting non-stop playing all the way through. His flash bass parts are very impressive and I sadly cannot play them at all. In any case after repeated listens and attempts to understand what he is doing I now think it is a good album. For me, the move moving parts of music on it don't really feature the bass, nor do they feature overly complex routines like "Come On Over". Whenever I hear this album it makes me want to pick up the bass and play, so that's a good thing. Flea does the same for me, although I am not a fan of all his music either. Jaco does not make me want to dance to Portrait Of Tracy, and I suspect that's not what he was aiming to do with that song.
With regards to Vai it's all about context and what he was trying to achieve musically. If he was shredding over 3 min pop songs I'd accept he was just a shredder. However, his composition are about being musically advanced and interesting. This doesn't mean it's bad cos it's not pop. Look at Mozart, Stravinsky etc. all there music contains fast musical passages. Does this. Make them shredders? violin w***ers?
 14.
I think that's the bottom line with this amp really.
It really is!
 15. Mine arrived yesterday. Just had a go. I definitely agree that it lacks a bit of growl but it does have a bit of beef. Certainly gonna be loud enough. I had it through my GK MBE 212 first gain on 7, master on 2. It was plenty loud. Tried it with gain on 3 master on 4-5 loud again. i will be using it with the GK and an Ashdown 1x15 ther will be no Volume problem. I then put an Hartke bass attack thru the effects loop and got a variety of good tones. Also i was using my Fender jazz 62 reissue fretless. The strings are dead, years old, so that won't have helped. To be honest i didn't really mess with the eq. Just put all the knobs at 12 o clock and used the hartke. That's how i will be using it. For 80 quid it's a bloody bargain.
 16. I pretty much only play 5's, two fretted one fretless. I have that jazz and a jackson PJ which is closer to a jazz than a P but they hardly get touched.
 17.
I always want more jazzes, they are nice
I used to hate them when i was younger then one day I just fancied one. Now i think they are beautiful. Saying that I fancy a P bass now but i constantly swap between love and hate with them and i don't even own one.
 18.
yes pm'd
19. Any one wanna buy a CIJ 62 reissue Fretless Jazz?!
 20.
You're not the bloke off The Fast Show with the catchphrase '.......which was nice', are you?
?
 21.
Would have sounded the same played on a guitar, with a similar tone. Pleasant noodling, but ultimately pointless on a bass.
I have to agree. It is pleasant. However, if it was played on a guitar or piano it would just be boring,
 22.
https://www.eurotube...mpeg%20v4bh.htm I found this page seems to explain it well
Nice one, I'll let him know what he's got........or maybe not. Tell him it's sh*t and I'll take it off his hands. Or, when the behringer arrives, do like discreet did. Bang an Ampeg badge on it and swap it around and hope he doesn't notice! Mwahh ha ha haa! Plus, if i get busted, I can blame that on discreet too! (that will be 2 times)
 23.
Well if you don't want it I'll be happy for you to send it to me.
i don't think i'd be welcome in the studio if I did that. We would definitely have to start paying for rehearsals then!
 24.
Is it any good? You are a bass player, right? Why do I never find things like this just lying around??
Yeah, i know ampeg is good. But I've never owned a valve amp. It's not mine anyway. Plus on here you do here ampeg getting slagged occasionaly. I didn't know where this falls in the range of ampeg or if it was a tube pre or all valve. I could have googled all that but then where would the BC chat fun come in. I'm trying to stay away from OT nowadays so trying to get my kicks in different parts of the forum
 25. I'mm umming and aahing about getting it fixed to use it. But I'm waiting for the £80 behringer ampeg rip off to arrive. So I'll see how that goes!
