Dirk - I think - makes that original 'bus sound and although Kenney is now the bassist, Incubus is a different band now. Not better, or worse - just different !
Very true, but still certain songs live don't have the impact they use to have, for example, A Certain Shade of Green, has the slapped verse and really drives the song, Kenney just holds a chord through it, making it sound so empty and bland, and the same for the more earlier Incubus songs which are heavily groove orientated. Ah well, change is change. I'd better get a few pics up of my new growler as well!
  2.
If Dirk came back, it would be awesome! Kenney is technically great...but hes great at EVERYTHING. He is literally a one man band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47fzpzNOcw0 The 'wicks are so incredible - and to think I was going to fork out more moolah on a Jazz...I dont think they suit my music style - IMO, 'wicks are all about the funk; espesh the Streamers I bet your SSII sounds gorgeous - might have to add it to the GAS list ! I'm orf to dream bout that growl - I've got a busy day lying in tomoz...(its wicked being a student)
Kenney just can't justify Dirk, he is technically gifted, he can sing, compose, play competently on different instruments, but, to me, he dosen't embody the role of the bassist in Incubus, Dirk was the key to that sound which made you move, Redefine for example, it just makes move when it comes to the break down, it's a long buried incident, but many fans will always bring up the Dirk + Incubus = True Incubus until their dying day.
  3.
Aaaaah man, she loves the 'quai I was having a great sesh earlier Out of interest, why Jamiroquai? Early Incubus is frocken awesome too - especially Battlestar Scralatchtica and You Will Be A Hot Dancer Katunich = Leg-end Funk FTW!
Thats for my beast! Science is the ultimate show case of Dirk IMO, his tone is just amazing, and with the SS II, it's easily replicated, and sounds even better when it's coming out of an Eden Rig! Unfortunatley the latter 2 albums only offered a few of last his last good moments, Science and Enjoy Incubus are excellence in execution....andwell now their on an indefinite hiatus, hopefully sorting something out with Dirk maybe on the cards?
  4.
Aaaaaaaah man, in black she looks hot - I used a whole box...I still prefer that natural look though That flamed figuring...phwoar... She needs a good waxing every now and again - shes always so dirty... She's not getting away, she's firmy tied down dude and I give her a good slapping to keep her in check every so often
Man, enjoy that bass she looks amazing, and please say you have a good noodle along to some early Jamiroquai with her?

    MTD 535...
you will pay 22% on top of the value of the bass to cover vat and duty. I've had a few basses imported from the US and without exception have always been charged - the carriers will always collect the charges on behalf of HM Customs & Excise. the only differences is if you receive via Parcel Force (ie it's been mailed via USPS (US Postal Service)), then you'll always have to pay the extra money to them before they give you the parcel. FedEx sent me an invoice 3 months later. UPS who delivered my 535 (from the Groove Shoppe) charged me when I collected the bass from their depot. Ari is considering letting a couple of his 535s go - send him a PM, he's in France, so no vat & duty to pay
Grrrrr, so I'd have to keep at least £300 in cash to pay them off? Already have man, his 6 keeps me awake at night, but the only 535 of his that htis my eruption button is one of the 2 he's keeping .
Lol a semi no less. Lovely bass Josh - how is the down-tuning trick we talked about working out?
Let's just say my lower bowels are much more looser and I now drag my arse along the carpet like Nellie !
Yeah, I ordered it through The Groove Shoppe in the States and they sent it over.
Do you mind if I ask if you got burned on the import tax and vat etc...? I am seriously nursing a semi at the thought of a second 535.
  11. I've had Master of Puppets on in my mates car for the last 2 days, as much as I love that album already, it's been a good while since I listened to the whole thing more than 3 times, I honestly think it is the best thrash metal album ever, and since educating my ears for a long time, I can finally appreciate everything going on, not just Cliff. Damage Inc. at a very high volume, through a good hi-fi system, equals smiles and goosebumps time

    MTD 535...
Yeah, its an MTD 535-21 "Marilyn" model with a chambered alder body. Its also got a wenge neck and a birdseye maple fingerboard which is quite unusual for MTDs, but give you the midrange growl of wenge but without that ultra high end bite that the wenge fingerboard gives you. Awesome bass, there really is nothing out there that sounds as "full" as an MTD Marilyn model, the chambered body is something else.
Did you get it imported by any chance man?

    MTD 535...
hi Josh, what I meant was that I don't think it's a "bedroom" bass. In my experience, some gear sounds fanstastic at home, but didn't cut it (for me) when used live. The MTD while sounding good at lower volumes just sounds awesome when cranked through a PA. I was reminded of this a couple of days ago when I last gigged with mine well done
I understand exactly what you mean about the tone becoming sterile after the string brightness wears away, still sounds amazing though, but a fresh set sounds amazing, and also, it is one of the few basses I've enjoyed playing louder than my normal volume when practicing, its a bass that begs to be played
  15.
You're having trouble getting a hi-fi sound out of an Eden rig? I've heard some people say they like the sound of the Eden heads or the cabs - but not together. You could try swapping your Eden 4x10s for something else - perhaps the EBS 2x10s or 2x12s?
It's just not there man, if it is I haven't found it. That's a bit strange, but I guess it explains the amount of players I've seen with different cabs yet have a Eden wt800 or Navigator head. That is a possibility, for the selling price of both the 4x10's I could get the full set up I'm after.
  16.
Is it also that the Thumb has 26 frets as opposed to some of the other models? (I'm not sure if that's true - but I seem to remember hearing that somewhere).
Nah his is only 24 frets, I think only NT Thumb's have the elusive 26th fret, that or the older NT Thumbs........ermmmmmmmmm John, please feel free to correct me!
  17. Another one ..... For the last so many weeks, I've been contemplating down-sizing to a smaller rig, for certain reasons, a main one being the weight, when I think about having to move out to go to Uni, I get pains at the idea of lugging even one 4x10 XLT up and down stairs, which are very heavy, and to save space as well, and to respect the other occupants who I'd be sharing the place with. Another reason is, I'm finding the sound of my rig to be not as crystal, growly and Hi-Fi as I had hoped for, whilst beign able to get a comfortable playing tone for alot of the time, it still leaves me wanting that cyrstalness(Ello??) to my tone, and now I've got 2 basses that are very Hi-Fi, and even with new strings their not as clear as I would prefer. I've had a good play around with the horns and it just makes the tone harsh and un-playable, to me they just serverly lack the tone I'm trying to get out of it. I'm not currently gigging at the moment, so I ahven't been able to put it to the test at a gig, but still even at home, I'm not too happy with it. The appeal of having a large expensive amp has really started to wear off, as I'm seeing and hearing so many players with much smaller and lighter rigs, with a perfect cyrstal and growly tone, and also in some cases, their rigs are a good bit cheaper than my whole rig put together. And one main brand that has really been turning my head is EBS, luckily I have had the chance to play through a TD650 head and 2x12 in my own room, and I was really liking the more Hi-Fi feeling to my tone, sure it had a tad to much treble for my liking but that was easily sorted, but for the size I was and still am really impressed. So I'm considering to buy 2 2x10's and a HD350, but I'm a bit undecided on wether to go Proline or Neo? Any experiences or other recommendations would gladdly be appreciated! Thanks Guys, Josh.
  18. Adam, it depends what your preffered strap height is, I always had it just above the bottom of my ribs and it sat comfortably and never caused any hasstle whilst reaching down to the F's & G's, and your right, the pick up spacing is very comfortable, perfect for digging in.
  19.
Oh, there was also Vintage V950, but it's Sh1111tty heavy, and, though, I liked it a bit more than GSR, it would have killed my back in time..
I've still got my V950, and depending on your strap height the weight of the bass is fine, if it is at least above your waist it will sit comfortably and there is no real pull from the bass at all, I've done countless gigs with the old girl before I retired her and I can't re-call any pain brought on from the bass. Incidentally, compared to the Ibby's your looking into, IMHO, the V950 is one of the best 5 strings around in it's price range, for it's price you get a seriously growly work horse, that both looks nice and can deliver a great array of tones, whereas all of the Ibby's I've had experience with, all felt like souless, toneless robots.
  20.
Come on then, the both of you spill the beans!
A cryptic clue: If you come up with the rather simple answer, and depeding on your music tastes of course, you'll get it dead on
  21.
Dude, who are the vids of? Forgive my ignorance! Love the first one, really inspiring and humbling. EDIT : Dwayne (DW) Wright? And I completely agree about Alien3, it's a great film. Deep treatise on social alienation, bit like Lord of the Flies for grown ups. It's a subtle file that took me three times of watching to get past my expectations of Aliens the sequel.
The first is Dwayne Wright, and the second is Maurice Fitzgerald. And thats another person to the list
  22. I'm guessing either a Thumb BO or $$, and I've just secured a deal on my next Warwick as well
  23. Ahhhh gospel bassists, my favourite My personal favourite, Dwayne "DW" Wright: Andrew Gouche, his tone is just amazing: Thurman "Peanut" Woods: Keep an ear out for that last fill. Justin "Rafiki" Raines: Maurice Fitzgerald: Thats a few of my favourites, they are so tasteful and so inspirational, it's just all the religion jargon which makes it tad cheesey alot.
  24. Andrew Gouche and Dante Nolen.
  25. "Floater" by Every Time I Die, gets me in the mood quite easily, as does "94 Hours" by As I Lay Dying............brooooooootoool. But what gets me going groovewise:
