Most concerning comment to me made so far was that it had a very 'rock' sound. What do you mean by this? I play everything from jazz to funk to brazilean to metal, so it needs to be flexible (although i am hoping to upgrade atleast the p pickup pretty soon after getting it).
I think Bubinga is really just highlighting the fact that it has a great Rock-like growl, well almost Warwick like IMO. I can assure you that the bass has many tones to it, your really better off trying one before you get one if your not sure though.

I've still got mine but use it very rarely (Only really when I remember that it's gestating in it's case). It was the first bass I took my playing seriously on and in retrospect really did the job very well, they are surprisingly growly for the price and have a decent variety of tones to them. I also still love the look of the bass and the string spacing, they are great medium level basses but as Machines said they are sometimes quite bad, but I've played owned 2 V950's and played a V940 exclusively for a while and I enjoyed each one. Also, if you've got a decent back the weight isn't such a problem. If mine wasn't in such need of a serious set up I'd most likely play it more often as it really does have a Thumb bass like growl to it.

I wonder what is the percentage of bassists who play Status who aren't Mark King clones or in a Level 42 tribute?. To be fair, I've had a King Bass, and it was a solid and interesting bass, but for some reason it just didn't jump out as spectacular. It was also capable of more than just hammering out Level 42 tunes, but unfortunately thats mostly all we see from them.

I'm still finding it hard to see whats so spectacular about her playing. To my ear it just sounds like a modern take on Jaco, nothing ground breaking or new. Great tone though.
like i say, did try it and I lost all drive to play the instrument as my timing just disappeared up its own wazoo
Wuss.
i agree, some lefties can play right handed through practise, but I know some that tried to start playing right handed from the beginning and just couldn't get their heads round it and had to get a left handed instrument
Try a little harder son and one day you'll be like me . I think all lefties should try it, the world would become a less confusing place.
Lorraine... the images... ow... time to go wire wool my eyes... gotta love the separate power section for the tweeter though never got to use it myself, does it make much difference?
Just think of Coleen Nolan and you'll be fine! It really does man, the tweeter and woofer controls really come into play, as does the contour and presence controls. It really is just as Hi-Fi as the mroe expensive stuff, but just feels more honest and is half the price. I think I've found a keeper.
Josh speaks the truth! He should know too, he nicked my GK rig
Dude I had the biggest smile today when I plugged in the GK speakon which showed up today. Just jamming along to The Police and assorted Sting songs, and then some Stevie, this rig really punches the EBS rig in the face. The tone is smoother than Kate Beckinsales fine arse, but as growly as Lorraine Kelly after a spicy burrito.
-
Kash, man you'll get a very smooth and growly sound, depending on how you eq it of course.
Just wanted to say Hi, I am from the San Francisco Bay Area in California USA.
You extremely lucky bugger! And finally someone who's on par with me regarding Jason and Cliff. And as such my question is this, have you actually got any photo evidence of Cliff using the Alembic Spolier? And Welcome Jason!
how much are they again? And does it stop the bass annoying the people in the room below?
Well I got mine for £85 from Bass Direct. Indeedly it does sir, they still can hear it but thats only if you insist on playing at stupid volumes, but you don't feel it travelling through the floors at all, instead you feel it in the room around you.
Josh, does that Gramma pad make any difference? I would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Well, to my ear the GP does indeed enhance the sound, both increasing definition and projection. One major thing it does for me is that it gives me a great open E, on any other amp before I had the Auralex, the low E always lacked a certain punch/kick/chop/haymaker, but as soon as I put it under the EBS rig it suddently jumped right out at me each time I played it. IMHO it is worth the hype.
surprisingly I'm not, I really love the portability of the GB over the slight tonal loss I get. Take it you prefer the GK to the EBS?
The TD650 was a nice head, but it just became way too harsh for my liking. The best way to describe the GK is smooth, the mids are just much more more warmer and well rounded. As you can see in the pics, I have just the lower mids and the bass boosted, and it's the perfect tone for both of my basses.
me too, even when it was in I had no idea, I just twidled it sometimes. I've only ever used it for a tuner, though I suspect the knob is for the metronome part of it
Good point. Missing it yet though man?
my my, what a sexy amp, wonder where you got that from! Is it just me or is a knob missing from the rack tuner?
I thought it was like that when you had it? *Just nipped upstairs and checked again, I found it, but I'm still confused on what the hell it actually does.
