1.
Maybe I'll just get a Squier classic vibe at only £250!
I just bought one today, and it beats my USA 75 Reissue hands down, warm and punchy without the harshness.
  2. Generally like them all besides the SZ sig and the Cort. Though chrome hardware really doesn't do Warwick's any justice.
  3.
I have two GK 4 conductor speaker cables that I don't use. Both are totally as new. I was thinking £30 each or £50 the pair plus the postage but I'm open to offers.
Are these the speakon ones man?

  5.
Hi everyone. Good to find a UK bass-mental forum. Anyone know what model this Spector is? I am assuming it is an NS-4 neck-thru. Also, any idea on RRP, or what they fetch these days? Thanks for any advice you can offer Cheers, H.
I'm pretty sure it's the Professional model man. Just wait for Cetera to confirm it though.
  6. I was the one who installed the strap locks, but I definitely recall there being a screw in there so something has happened since I owned it.
  7.
Jerry is playing a Low End 6 string Jazz. I think he's an endorser and I found him on their web site while looking for something else. He gets such an amazing sound from it that I'm wondering if there are any in the UK that I can try! He seems to be using a GK 800RB and an Ampeg 4x10.
Someone's selling a pink one on here man.
  8. My bad it looked like Gouche from the distance and I thought he was playing his NYC Fodera. Still I love it.
  9.
What do you want him to do at a trade show or clinic...play some rock and roll basslines?
Why not? It'll show us a side of him we've never really seen and may earn him some more respect. Personally I'd like to see him fry up an omelet.
  10. Edit: It is indeed the wrong size so nevermind.
  11. Have had lessons which have put me in the right directions, 2 different teachers at 2 different times in my development but I've learnt more from just generally asking for help and getting it and putting it into practice.
  12. Bump. Seriously wanting a NT Thumb bass guys.
  13. Bump. Hasn't anyone got a Thumb NT 4 or 5 string?
  14. Interested in trades at all man?
  15. A on the way to Weston-Supermare to eat at Papa's style Bump!
  16. Bump. Price lowered. Also interested in a Streamer Stage 2 5 string and 5 string Laklands in general.
  17. SOLD. SOLD.
  18.
I really don't know how you guys work out basslines from recordings, I have a real job picking out the bass, let alone trying to play it. I really struggle with what's going on. Maybe it's because I've spent decades not really listening to bass??
I'm not sure how long you've been playing exactly but if you've been able to play songs mostly right for a good amount of years, your ears should at least be able to differentiate what's going on. It doesn't need to be exact but you should be able to make out the basic motif, and then if you practice that part your ear will get use to it in the mix and then picking out the rest of the line should come easily.

    My new MTD
Sounds lovely! I read a Bass Player 5-string shootout where the testers mentioned the MTD was quite hard and unforgiving of sloppy technique. Wouldn't know . Haha, seriously, My experience is like yours - the more you give, the more you get back out. Even though Wenge is the hardest neck wood commonly used I don't find the tone has too much of an edge - perhaps the warmth of the custom wound Barts even things out.
I'd love to try a wenge necked MTD, I love Warwick's so no doubt the tone would be something else altogether, in a good way of course, it's a shame you don't live to close to here, you'd be more than welcome to come and have a noodle on mine.

    My new MTD
Cheers! Every time I look at that top on your MTD Josh I get this terrible pang of envy! What's the ash neck like compared to a maple neck. Michael says on his website that it's half way between maple and wenge...
I'd say Mikes right about Ash being the in-betweener, it's not as harsh as Wenge and certainly not as smooth (tonewise) as Maple and really just gives the bass a unique cutting tone. The best way to describe the tone would be it is incredibly warm and modern whilst having the guts to stand out in any mix.
Never understood all this talk of MTD's being unforgiving of sloppy technique - mine just eats it up whether you play lightly with floating thumb or dig in hard.
I haven't really heard that myself to be honest, but either way it's helped me refine my technique further, it's stupidly easy to play.

    My new MTD
The only bass I would get next is... another MTD (Josh where are you!!).
We are Elite. I'm always near when an MTD is afoot.
  22.
any sound samples?
I'm afraid not Steve, I still haven't worked out how to record properly on my Mac yet.
  23.
Looks great! What sort of price is 'half the cost of a Sadowsky M24'?
Well to get one made to the exact specs would cost around £1200-£1400, whereas you'll be lucky to find a Metro Ultra-Vintage or Modern Vintage for that price second hand, let alone a secondhand NYC M24 which would be about £2000+ secondhand. Having previously owned the blue NYC Sadowsky which is currently up for sale, I can happily say it pretty much beats it for both playability and tone.
  24. Recently acquired this beaut from Garbev and I can honestly say that Mark Siggery has made an astonishing bass, for less than half the price of a Sadowsky M24 as well. Gary had originally snapped it up when it was on Ebay, when it use to look like this: But he then took out the Bart pre-amp and had it sent back to Mark who installed a Series/Parallel switch for each pick up, and now it looks like this: It's pretty criminal that many guys on here haven't heard of Mark Siggery, Mark's stuff just looks so professional, check his site here.
  25.
I'm considering a Metro Modern 5. Does anyone know what the string spacing is on Metro 5 string basses ?
19MM I think?
