1. Shame to hear it's closing down. All the best to the team!
2. Well, this kid is clearly a f***ing knob. He's trying to play that bass like a drum, he hasn't got the first clue. And that stupid haircut. Jesus Christ. This 'youtube generation' need to learn that no one gives a flying f*** about them. Just because they can mangle a song whilst the camera is rolling doesn't mean the world needs to see their efforts. This little turd would be better off just putting the bass down.
3.
You missed out the bit where you tell us all how ugly the bass is, how awful it sounds and how it is based on a terrible design that has been outdated for years.
It is testament to Tony's great skill that he can make a bass as lame as a P bass sound good! In fact, he may be the only one who can.
4.
Total non-question - the obvious answer is both
When you own an MR2 Turbo there is only room for one...!
5. I am hoping to come to the sunday gathering if I can fit it in around work. The main question though, do I bring my ACG or my Zon? My ACG I'm confident will impress and amaze even hardcore ACG fanatics, as it's that bloody good. It used to belong to Peter (Greeneking) so some of you may have been lucky enough to see it before. Or would I bring the Zon, equally as stunning but in a different way and likely to be new to most people at the gathering. I was really disappointed to miss the bash this year so I really want to come over on Sunday! As I found out on my latest driving course, Moffat isn't far away at all...!
6. My baby, my Scottish beauty. Always the one I come back to. Although over the Christmas season it will be played live at a sit down gig, the Zon Sonus will be covering most of the work.
7.
Just had a look at the video and wow, now i can see where some of my bass lines came from back in the 80's. Its nice to see him getting recognition but i dont see a real reason to bring this out.
I think the reason we're seeing it now is that Big Country are only just tenatively getting back together to tour and maybe record again. If you cehck recent interviews with the band members, they all feel very positive about it and seem to want to make a go of things again if it feels right. Interestingly, Tony seems the most cautious about getting back together, and he has always maintained he wouldn't be interested if it wasn't for the right reasons, or it didn't feel right. So to see Tony excited about where they're going now is a really positive indicator for me. As it is, the band's profile is still too small for a big brand to be knock on Tony's door, and he was content playing his own basses for years. Fenders, Warwicks, Arias etc etc. I think Tony has referred to this bass as a reproduction of the one he uses on stage. It's just an opportunity for JHS to get a 'name' associated with them and to make a little bit of cash, but it's also nice to see Tony getting the recognition he deserves with a signature bass. Sadly, it's not something that would interest me greatly (I'd rather he played a Warwick Thumb again) but it's better that it exists than that it doesn't.
8. Beautiful! I've always loved Status basses. Had a few nice ones myself. Someone will no doubt enjoy this a lot!
9. Very nice. Were you the lad who got ripped off trying to buy the amber coloured Vampyre a couple of years ago then?
10. I wish it did, and maybe some tips from Tony on how to get the best from it. He is the master of using chorus.
11. I think for now I'll be keeping ahold of this. I've considered all of the basses I've been offered, and in particular the Devon and the Pedulla have caught my eye. But with me squaring things with the bandleader and agreeing that a fretless was not a must for the gig I am inclined to keep it. It is a fantastic fretted bass and it's probably getting the most play of both my basses at the moment while I wait for some new strings to come for the ACG. I may get some sound samples sorted in future, and of the ACG to when I have the time.
12. Ooh, very nice! Every time I let a Kubicki go I want another one!
13. For once, a P Bass that I actually want! So the manufacturer must be commended for that feat! The video of him playing it is great, the two sections of Angle Park sound great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nJL3nAUDyYk It's great to see Tony getting a signature bass. He is one of my absolute favourite players and I always think of him as the most talented UK bassist around, alongside Mark King. His lines are just incredible. I'm going to see Big Country live in February, which is great as they are one of my favourite bands. Absolutely awesome. Tony is the man.
14. Awesome to see Stambaugh still going! I haven't thought of Stambaugh in years, and then it just popped into my head. Definitely one of the basses I want to own one day!
15. Such a shame that even the Euro basses are priced so ridiculously these days. They used to be one of the best basses going in their price range. Now, they're good basses pitched against amazing basses in the same price range.
16.
When you first posted this advert, i gave you advice. I'm offering it again, i have sold 5 Streamer Stage II's, if you want advice that would be removed if i posted it on here, just PM me.
What is this advice? PM me if need be.
17. That was my first thought as well!
18. It should go to both! You've got to have good quality items as far as both are concerned. If one of them is expensive and the other is a stinker you'll be sorely let down in the end.
19. Luckily I've managed to avoid Christmas songs being on the setlist this Christmas. The earliest I've done was Saviour's Day by Cliff Richard, mid November.
20. I had a little ditty on it tonight, some 'Animal Logic' tunes (my favourite Stanley Clarke stuff...yes, shame on me when I should be saying Return to Forever is my favourite!). I also had a go along with 'Spanish Heat' by Albert Niland, which is a fairly sparse track of nylon string guitar and vocals. It's begging for a touch of bass playing to make it even better. I just added some counterpoint to the guitar line and just traced the chord structure through a lot, soloing the bridge pickup of the Zon. It sounded as fresh and vibrant as if I'd sat for hours in a studio tweaking it and mastering it. This is a demand I make of all my basses, that they must sound incredible from the off. The graphite neck is a beauty though. Incredibly stable (still in tune...since I bought it!) and it sounds wonderful. Extremely vibrant and present, but with a slightly softer, more vocal high end compared to the snap of a Modulus or a Status. It is very rich and organic sounding, which gives it a character as at home accompanying a nylong string guitar or in a busy mix of drums and guitars. I am still really appreciating these offers of fretless basses coming in though, I'm always looking to drool over new basses!
21.
Not sure if it's still open, might have closed down years ago, but check out the Jazz Cafe on Pink Lane. Its uip a cut that is opposite the Central Station, running to the bottom of Westgate Hill. The entry fee includes grub, and there is always live Jazz. It's a really great dive, very old, and full of atmosphere. It's run by a guy called Keith who once booked The Rolling Stones to play at the Club A Go Go (in the now defunct Handyside Arcade).
I didn't realise the Jazz club did food! I've walked past it so many times but never think of going there. It tends to be trad jazz though, your chances of seeing a great fusion band I would suspect are pretty slim!
22.
Chris - don't think the Dog & Parrot is a gay pub. Are you thinking of the place over the road that used to be called the Barking Dog?
I was always under the impression it was, specially given the location. But I see now I've got the names mixed up. The location I described is just 'The Dog', the D&P is across the road.
23.
It's all Carcass's fault.
I don't think so, Heartwork was just death metal back in those days. Back when every band did not require it's own unique genre.
24. Thats actually marginally better, as the dark colours hide how dismal the bass really looks.
