1.
I think it's been fairly easy to pick up recent'ish Rays for around the £600 mark for a while really.
On the couple of occasions I've considered a Ray, it's been one between £600-£700. They've been available at that price for a while, from realistic sellers.
2. You don't see many of these in Europe. They look nice, though I was never too fond of that clubby headstock design.
3. I have mentioned it on the occasion but I am sure some of them have forgotten it. It's always good to have a hobby outside of work, and sharing these with colleagues can be pretty cool. I have surprised on occasion by visiting a guitar shop with a colleague and having an impromptu ditty or two!
4. It appears you are correct! Thanks!
5. Morning all, Just a quick question on behalf of a friend of mine. He is a big Led Zeppelin fan and was today telling me about how much he has been enjoying the Celebration Day DVD. He was wondering what bass JPJ is playing in it. I'm not a Led Zeppelin fan so I don't really know what JPJ favours these days. It can be seen in the video below, does anyone know what it is? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpigDGf6vXM
6. One of my favourite songs from one of the greatest musicians of all time. I remember reading something about A Show Of Hands being re-released. Might have to check it out all over again!
7. You'd never get your money back on a refinish. Just leave it as it is!
8. Respect must be given to Warwick not only for their vision and their dedication to it, but for carving out a niche in an industry obsessed with the P and J! I have owned and loved a few of their basses over the years, including my current Thumb 5 string!
9. Now we can start listening to this again... Awesome bass playing! One of my favourite Christmas songs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbk8Z6feLvs
10. You can spot the Lane Poor pickup as it has a little 'jewel' logo on the case. That isn't a Lane Poor. But I wouldn't get sucked into paying more for a Lane Poor pickup. Some people revere them and say they are better than the equivalent Bartolini/SD pickup but I can't say that they ever sounded better than those pickups. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for one. OP, I would put a bit more time into researching these basses, particularly their value over in the US. You can get a good one there for significantly less than that (or what you will pay here) but you'll end up paying the import and VAT to get it into the UK.
11. Any explanation of what it is?
12. It's not my thing now but about 11 years ago I would have loved it. Keep rocking!
13. It's like it's 1999 all over again!
14. I'd just go for it. 5 strings may not be for you. For years I avoided them and only played 4's and 6's. Now I'm happy playing a 4, 5 or 6 string. A good bass is a good bass and having a good 5 string doesn't mean you'll never like another 4 string, or your current 4 strings will become redundant.
15. Why do you want talked out of it? The top end Ibanez SR basses are, and have long been, top quality products!
16. My old bass! Sounds great in the videos but it has to be heard in person to hear what it can really do!

18. Asking for pictures? Common sense really. You wouldn't buy something you haven't seen. Even if they do have the item, if they're too lazy to take pictures of it they can get stuffed!
19. It is definitely a beauty.
20. The 'Lightwave' pickups have always been a bit pump, really. I never thought they were going to change the way basses were made.
21.
Ok so, the wedding & function band route is very lucrative and probably a young man's game.
I wouldn't say that. The best wedding and function bands round here have all been together for years! And having worked for four years in a hotel, I saw just about every function band going round here. When is it time to hire a crew? When you're getting the gigs that pay for them. The most 'big time' band I saw play at the hotel was a serious outfit. I can't remember their name (they weren't that good), but the stage setup was immense. They turned the back of a function suite into a stage. A backdrop, a lighting rig that covered the whole stage, the bassist had a Fodera Emperor and a Genz Benz rig.
22. It's a great track. The bassline isn't perfect and it's better for it!
23. Can't believe you're selling this! Anyone buying this should know that Alan put a huge amount of work into getting it right. Definitely a bass for someone to treasure!
24.
Don't mis-quote me. i am familiar with wooten. I said i didn't like his slap style, and that i find a good groove within a song more interesting than a song that IS a groove, i.e.- Wootens songs.
But then you're talking guff. As Wooten's songs are about more than just a groove, in most cases. He'll provide a groove. Usually there will be melody, harmony and colour added by other instruments or in some cases, Vic himself. The point being that Vic no doubt strives to put a good groove into his songs, but they aren't just grooves exclusively, if you wish to categorise things in such an unwieldy and pedantic manner.
25.
I don't like wooten's slap, for a couple of reasons... but i would rather hear a tight groove in a song
I see you are largely unfamiliar with Victor Wooten then. He is one of the tightest groovers around. This track is awesome, Prasanna with Vic on bass. From about 04:40 until the end of the song, he is bringing the house down with that massive groove.
