1. Yep, Matt is known for using EADGC tuning. I think his action is probably about in the middle, because he does have such a strong fundamental in his tone, no clacking or buzzing. I get the feeling some of it may be due to Fodera's superior fretwork, no doubt the frets of his basses are all incredibly even, helping to prevent any buzzing.
2. Aye, I know Howard is still in business, he has just jacked in the shop keeping business. He is still making basses and doing repairs. I bought my Hohner Jack bass from him, but I have sold it on now. I played a few of his custom builds, a couple have been a bit rough but a few times, the finished articles have been very nice indeed, particularly a fretless 6 string he made.
3. Greetings from another Geordie and, as you might have guessed, a Rush fan! I must say hello to Lee in Bolton, I spend quite a lot of time in Lancs myself, by way of Preston. I'm usually in Preston for at least a weekend a month for about 6 months of the year! Sound Control in Preston, just off Friargate, is where I got my Spector from! It's a shame Howard closed the bass place down, we could have used it as a get together meeting place, and spent an afternoon lounging round his shop chatting to Pete!
4. That Rickenbugger looks as nice as real Ric, if not nicer!
5. A guy I know who I bought my Kubicki from had one (one of the Seafom LTD models like Billy uses). By all accounts he loves it. He tells me the tone is great, nice and light and it plays excellently. The only thing to look out for is that it is not a good bass for slapping, because the woofer pickup makes it practically impossible to pop. Also, as he says, it sounds like a fat, growly P bass with an added treble edge, which is often not what people expect from it. They expect overdrive and distortion, which you'll need to biamp for if you want to sound anything like Billy!
6.
Personally, I think the Series II is pretty much overkill for live situations. Most live sound engineers I know would baulk at the idea of running a bass in stereo on stage, however the Series II is in a league of its own in the studio. I've found the Series basses seem to have more upper midrange and punch than other Alembic models too. The bass seem to combine a delicacy and attention to detail with tremendous robustness in my eyes. They're definitely idiosyncractic instruments however.
Crazykiwi, I can't remember how many times I have asked Ped for the link to your page so I could gaze in wonder at your graphite necked Alembic! And the sound clips, it just sounds amazing!
7. I've been after an Alembic for a long time. Of course, current circumstances prevailing, it will be a dream for some time to come until I can afford to dedicate more of my income to buying basses! In the end I'd like to go for a 4 string fretted Series II. Alembic basses are simply amazing, even if they are pricey!
8. I used to have a Status Stealth I 6 string, and it was utterly fantastic. Just a really wonderful bass with an amazing tone. I'd buy another Status, for sure! I'd definitely recommend going for the Stealth if you can afford it!
9. The bass playing is fine, nicely kept in time and that harmonic run is nice. The song however, I found to be very cheesy and shockingly poor!
10. A lot of Weather Report, particularly the 1982 self titled album (their second self titled album).
11. Well, this tool is certainly getting dragged through the mud. But then, given his behaviour it's not surprising. I am inclined though to believe he had an ulterior motive. I don't think he would have went to the trouble of writing such a long winded email to a guy he had seen playing (unless he swings that way too). As far as pulling methods go, I think he's picked a pretty bad one here.
12. I have one of these as my main bass (but just with standard pickups and preamp, I didn't feel a great need to change them), and they are absolutely cracking. So good I sold my Status Stealth bass after getting it!
13.
weakened BUMP .. and reduced to £750 !!!!!
This really is just getting silly now. Someone has to take it at this price. Just don't let it be me, I can't afford it!
14.
Apart from REMO, Spector etc.... Best bet is to get along to one of the new six Reverb stores, try out a Spector ReBop and take advantage of their special introductory 20% off! Spector ReBops have a great and well deserved reputation for being lightweight, well made, powerful and punchy! You may find a little neckdive, but nothing that can't be countered with a decent strap....
I picked my Spector up at Sound Control in Preston in February. Apparently it had been ordered in for someone else who had paid the deposit but then never turned up to buy it when it arrived, so it went on general sale. When I bought it it was meant to be on layaway until the next day when someone was coming in to buy it, but because he hadn't paid a deposit they let me buy it instead (and didn't even blink when I started haggling)! Shame to see Reverb aren't reopening the Newcastle or Preston SC stores, means it will be hard to get my hands on more Spectors, saying as Guitar Guitar are utter cack and don't have any!
15.
I think this wins the "worst for sale thread" award - and frankly there's been some serious competition!
I think you could be right about that!
16. It's taking all my strength right now not to buy this thing...these basses really are the mutts nuts! As has been said, they come from a time when Peavey made a serious effort to put out a range of great instruments (instead of just the Cirrus series and Van Halen guitars). As a result, these B Quads and the Palladium basses really impress everyone who gets their hands on them. I don't need to say it, but I'll reiterate some of the good things about it. Graphite neck, piezos, gloss-finished fretboard, impeccable build quality. These things sound bloody class (about as close to my ideal fretless tone as it gets, if I can't sound like Bakithi Kumalo, I'll happily take the sound these things make!). Someone, buy this and save me from myself and my late night GAS attacks!
17.
But nobody picks him up on it because he's selling a Wal.
My first though, but he's selling a Wal, and they are beautiful...and rare! Though I'm not one for picking on new people, everyone has to start somewhere!

Sold Will my Fender Urge Standard, was accomodating with the meeting arragement, kept in touch and was very easy to deal with. The sale went smoothly with no problems whatsoever. Great bloke, wouldn't hesitate to do business with again! Thanks Will!

MB1 Feedback

Sold him my Hohner, great bloke, top guy to do business with. Had a good bit of a banter too about the basses we've been through, great stuff. Would have no worries about doing business with him again!
20.
Hi Chris Is the Urge Standard neck the same or similar to the neck on the Urge II's...? The Urge II us the best bass ever (IMO) Cheers Will
Well, it's the same profile as the Urge I, as far as I know, the profile was kept the same, just "scaled up" for the Urge II! But it was a very nice neck I'll admit! Still loving your Urge II Will? Ain't seen you on MSN for a while (Is the Street_rider address defunct now?). Got some good news today too, I see that Stuart is going to be touring with Joe Satriani again, which is a pleasant surprise as I have front row, center tickets for the Newcastle show!

22. I recently bought this Urge bass from Frank (known round here as a Sharkfinger). It's the Standard model of the Urge bass, made in Mexico. Same as the American Urge but with a poplar body, rosewood fingerboard and no precision pickup. Basically what we have here is a lovely 32" scale active jazz bass with 24 frets then. It's in very good condition for its age, with just a small scratch, a little ding and some mild bucklerash. It's certainly nothing serious, just in the clearcoat, and I've highlighted the scratch with a photograph of it for your purposes. It's all in working order, and sounds fantastic. The 32" scale is very comfortable (something I liked about my Kubicki, I'm a bit of a Stu Hamm fan so it's nice to have a signature bass of his!) and the body is quite small, so it takes well to being worn high. It's also very light (7.2lbs), the lightest bass I have owned apart from my Hohner (which is also for sale here). I'll probably regret this sale later, as I do love the sound of jazz basses, but I guess I have to do this! As I say, I only received it a little while ago, though my parents decided today to tell me it was about time I started paying board. Hence I'm having to sell this one, as with board and the costs of Uni, things are just looking a bit bleak for me! I paid £350 for it delivered, I'd like that, but feel free to make me an offer if you wish. This advert is, after all, an invitation to treat. I still have the packaging materials, so I can ship it out as soon as. Here are some photos: *******Hohner Jack Bass is SOLD********* I've done business round here with a few guys recently, just ask if you need references. I can also PM you my mobile number if you want to chat about the basses. Thanks for looking! Chris
23. Feel free to leave feedback here
24. Bought a Fender Urge Standard bass from him. Shipped quickly, VERY well packaged (top marks for that!), easy to contact. No complaints, a pleasure to do business with!
