  1. 100% 🙂 on the whole marketing of just that word there is a big fat book waiting to written !
  2. Have to agree with nick. i have a 1000+ funk and related cd's from old to today. "Funk" has such a wide spectrum nowdays its hard to find a genera of music that the elements of funk has not affected. its a very personal thing on how we think of it, and all of peoples thoughts on it are valid depending on where there slide is on the ruler. if i could get a ruler and say thats the total span of "raw funk" to modern funk you could move that slide to the centre and say ok thats where i think it all began, the birth of funk, then im sure each of us cold move the slide on it one way or the other to pinpoint our fave bit. i like all music, classical soul, latin, jazz, reggae, boogaloo, organ groove acidjazz disco pop rock punk bla bla. i just take elements of all that a try and mold them into something useable that i like and can write with, where that all comes out on that ruler ? i dont know, but it sounds funky. our ideas of funk to put into a descriptive word is also very personal and will not align with someone else's idea of the word. a good example for me is, i have heard people calling "Nubiyan Twist" a funk band. yet i cant see that, its too short a descriptive label by far, i see them as a "world music" band... that has elements of lots of funk in there, but mainly i hear African/rap, but also pop jazz, (see below) their thing is so diverse its being stretched in all directions. pushing the boundaries of all we know about any genera of music. i love new cool collective for the same reasons worth checking both out to see what i mean. hope all that did not sound too boring

  6. i have said this somewhere else on here, but i think on dealing with G&L myself cracks were surfacing about G&Ls backup service a few years back. where i said it has just the worst backup service i have ever known that i have personally had to deal with, You cant clame to make a professional product for professionals when your back up service is anything but professional. i have sent an email to G&L about this, and yes... that just got ignored too. what it should say is and feels more closer to the truth is buy our instruments and once we have your cash we dont give a rats ass, we will deal with you when we can be arsed. that feels more the truth of it. i love G&L basses and have 4 of them all 80s, which are great products that do everything and more that i ask of it. now,,, some of the guys i teach have gone out and bought G&L basses based on playing mine only to find that theirs are not as good as mine, necks mainly seem to be a point, some of the thick necks they do feel cheap and to me and the people that have bought them also say they play horrid, and after me playing them as well, i have to agree. it is really sad, i dont think it would of got to this if leo still had control, who knows. so the real reasons why it has got to this, im sure will come out at some point. Conversations like these while they may put people off buying, it also serves to collectively shout out to G&L and ask what the fu@k is going on ? and that/this might be enough to push them into pulling their socks up,,,, if they can be pulled up. we will see.

  21. price dropped to 70 its gotta be worth 70, i loose more than that running for the bus 🙂
  22. Not sure if this has been mentioned above with only reading quickly scanning through, But i have for 20 + years owned my own big pa which i hire out now and again with me as tec as i dont like anyone else messing with it. As some of you have said already, its an expensive set up, and it is when you take all things into account, its all HK actor rig with full stage monitoring quality microphones, the mic leads alone are all quality and NOT cheap when buying for a 12 piece band with spares, go and price just 20 Evolution mic leads ! then there is a 20 chan desk, di boxes, mic stands, vocal mics/ wireless mics, drum mics, rack fx, multicores, power distribution, flight cases, bla bla bla, then there is stuff like tape, adapters, audio/music, recording stuff if needed, then there is all the bo!!o@ks of maintenance, PAT testing, and so it goes on, its a time consuming expensive game ! and if anything goes pop, you/i inevitably foot the bill... So, what i do is this..... If the band want to use it, then it becomes another member of the band and takes an equal cut of the money. a small price to pay for the amount of time of me getting there early to set up and being the last to go, and getting a consistently great sound. only rule is if i get there early to set up then everyone chips in at the end of the night to help break down and load up. no exceptions, that's the backing girl singers as well as the brass players who have a habit of sneaking off early, tw@s. so sod all that, that's the rule. Now, if they don't want that, they can go else where and hire ( which would mean less money for them at the end of the night) or ... someone else can go and get one as good and cart it all about for free if they want, which (cus i don't really like setting up pa) i would be right up for , who wouldn't be ? but i know it will only be a matter of time before they see the light also ! So it works and all agree its more than fair. as most of the time the pay is crap, sometimes is ok but very rarely its great you take the bad with the not so good, all things considered. BUT.... Again, as said, the no gear singers get off scott free.................. tw@s for the most bands i would say my message to singers is ... as well as your mic, lead and stand, at least go and get your own powered floor monitor.
