Like a used Genz for example, that you can leave under your car seat. -
Mesa Boogie sold, Ashdown, Trace Elliott rumours?
EBS_freak replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Amps and Cabs
Crumbs - after reading that, I realised that my first Trace head didn't do too well either. Played it in the shop - and the thing was fine. Got it home, was good for about half an hour, then blew a fuse. Thing went back to the shop and I was given a Warwick combo for a loaner (I was a bit miffed given I had just shelled out a load of money and couldn't get a replacement TE unit from the vendor since it had died literally the same day...). A completely new unit was delivered back to me eventually - after about a month - and it remained with me until I sold it and a matching 1048H (that seemed to weight as much as the sun) to some bloke in Wales. I didn't miss it and I certainly wouldn't be caught up in some sort of nostalgia thing because compared to todays offering, they are pretty pants. -
Mesa Boogie sold, Ashdown, Trace Elliott rumours?

You are absolutely right - in the UK, the SS amps that you were going through were generally pants HH, scrap heap junk stuff. So Trace, being able to deliver "normally" was a bit of a novelty... And lets not forget, these Trace watts were normally demonstrated with multiple cabs... moving a lot of air... so yes, these Trace amps sounded massive to that 1x15 crackly piece of junk that it was being pitted against. -

Ah, you've got one of those half-a$$-ed amps. -
And this to look forward to... maybe? https://www.theguardian.com/money/2021/jan/25/mastercard-to-raise-fees-to-eu-firms-by-500-percent-for-online-sales-to-uk-shoppers

Cuzzie - I can see you are typing. Save it for a DM and not this thread.

Dambuster's dog. The book, Ten Little N..s. End. Back to cabs.

Indeed. But they weren't named in recent years. Just like the MG and the Daihatsu weren't. If you don't get it, it seems you never will.

Don't really want to derail the thread but I will only say one thing on the matter - and that's from a business pov... Why, when there's not a shortage of names in the world, would you name a product as such, where as you say, there are pejorative connotation associated with it? There was a time in the UK when the N word was commonplace. Don't think any cab manufacturer would argue that naming a cab that word would be commercial suicide. The examples you have given above are historical. I don't think that anybody from a marketing position would push the word in today's society. If you don't get it - watch this - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000rh4p/targeted-the-truth-about-disability-hate-crime - without breaking the cycle, things can't improve. Right, back to cabs.

That's fair enough I guess! Tone is the subjective variable so yeah, I guess you have to have a shootout to see which works best for you. One man's tone and all that...
-
What is it that you are tying to improve upon? I'm pretty sure that a TF won't give you anything extra to what you are already getting out of the midget? (ugh hate that word, again not the best choice of name; it has very negative connotations)

Mesa Boogie sold, Ashdown, Trace Elliott rumours?
EBS_freak replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Amps and Cabs
Peavey bought TE presumably to give them a more premium label to effectively sell Peavey products at TE prices. Nobody would ever consider Peavey to be high end but a TE name may make the customer consider otherwise (even if it is all Peavey manufacturing inside - which to be fair, can be pretty good compared to other manufacturers). I personally think the TE name has been out of the lime light too long now. Bringing it back in any great capacity would, I imagine, follow a similar path to the Acoustic reinvention. Not even the backing of Flea could convince people. Only way TE could gain some sort of phoenix from the flame status is if they bring out something truly ground breaking - or get some of the original people involved (who probably won't be interested anyway). So I reckon it's stuffed on both accounts. To me, the ELF is a little toy thing - certainly not something that your would associate with Trace Elliot and the monster stacks of yesteryear. Just had another thought... they could approach Mark King and build upon the history of him and TE - and develop a signature MK rig. Then all the doctors, lawyers etc that buy MK stuff would be interested - whether it sounded good, bad or indifferent. I still maintain MK is the only bass player that can shift gear for manufacturers purely on the fact that he uses it. Spoiler- the secret in his sound is Mark, his DI from his amp - and certainly not his gear. -

Good call out - The specs suggest its 4 Ohm safe.

re:watts And that there, is a classic whataboutism. We should really talk about output losses (e.g. heat) at the amplifier before we even get to speaker efficiency... -

I gave up reading after reading your first sentence. Power is measured in Watts. Volume (sound) is measured in dB. -

I would wager that if you cold called a lot of name players via facebook or whatever, there would be a high chance that they would offer a Skype lesson or two. -
On Alex’s own website, where he goes into details about the bracing, its primary purpose is to strengthen. He only then goes onto to talk about panel resonance and disturbing the airflow inside the cabs. Of course there are plenty of cabs out there with and without bracing which are all held in high regard. Just because a cab does not have the same approach to BF when it comes to internal bracing doesn’t mean it’s necessarily worse design. Just to remind, I said- “Barefaced use thinner wood than most other manufacturers, so you could argue that the bracing is to counteract the flex that would otherwise not be present in their competitor's cabs. The bracing could be more of a consequence of their other design choices rather than an advantage over competitor cabs that have less bracing.” If you read, I suggest that other cabs may have thicker wood used in their construction which leads to a need for less bracing for strength - but note that I also say “less bracing”, not “no bracing”. It’s fair to say, other cabs can be using less bracing for just sonic purposes - where other cabs rely on bracing for both strength and rigidity as well as sonic purposes.

I guess that given the chances of people having gig experience with both is pretty slim, I'd say thats a </thread> Not sure I saw any hate either, just observations about both brands. I'd say knowing more about the individual cabs puts you in a better position of being informed?

That’s not what you asked in original post but thanks for the clarification. I have no agenda - I posted a measured response which others have then manipulated and even changed my words and context to fit their own agenda, whatever that may be. Anyway, I guess my interest is in your desire to change...?

Missed opportunity for using a Barefaced tenon.

Almost as lame as tagging a smiling emoji 'like' on my post. Almost. - and no doubt you’ll be along to put one on this post also.

You’ve pulled out that sentence without including the context. Pretty lame.
