hi all I have just bought an ashdown evo11 500watt with 15inch speaker but i also own a mag 200 2x10 my question is would it be possible to use the mag 200 speaker cab (not the amp )as an extension cab without blowing the speakers they are both rated at 4ohms and if so would i user the speakon output to the mag cab
    i would appreciate any help
Can you pop out a driver and let us know what the rating on the back of the driver is?

  2. For those who haven't seen it yet...

EBS and their new 450w all tube head...

...goes nicely with their Classic cabs don'tcha think? Will it be enough to drive people from their Ampegs? The jury is out...

...rumour also has it that there *may* be some digital amps coming out also to rival the superflys and little marks of the world...

  3.
Hi does anyone know a good amp repair man in se london or kent ..My ebs hd359 is not well keeps cutting out to the pa and cab no signal passes through .Many thanks ian
I don't understand why you don't send it back to Bernie...? He'll get it sorted for you - I think there is a diode mod which can solve amps which are experiencing this problem.

Failing that, he'll just replace the boards I guess. Bernie's customer service is second to none... don't mess about with finding some unknown and letting them loose on you amp, send it home and it'll be back with you in no time.

  4. When I had my Trace, I found that you had to EQ a lot to the room.

With just a 410 cab, my Trace graphic was roughly like a scewed m with the right hand side higher than the left. Yup - the graphic works best when it's balanced around the 0db level. The deep bass was cut beneath the 0db. I found the cab wasn't particualrly happy with 5 strings. The middle of the "m" was cut beneath the 0db - but not too much otherwise you'll lose your definition (I find this area of the eq the most important - as you have found out, get it wrong and it can all sound cack).

Remember, it's best to get the graphic sorted with a goon useable sound with everything flat on your bass (e.g. midway on all the knobs - except volume on full) then you can tweak EQ with the bass.

Hope this helps - must admit though, I was never a great fan of the eq on Trace... too many things to tweak!

PS - have you got a horn in your can? I think it makes a massive difference. Personally, I quite like the ultra hi frequency stuff -it picks up the overtones and stuff better and things just seem more clear. In a band situation, the hiss isn't noticable but I can understand your hiss anoyance if you are playing solo. I generally fun more "bright" on my EBS live compared to when I am at home.

  5. Anybody got any ideas what this thing is?

  6.
I'm sure I've heard you playing this at a gig? - It has a fantastic tone - I bet you regret selling it! :)

It's got to be worth £1400+ IMHO

    Hamster
Well, there is a guy on gumtree wanting £1700 for a natural finish one... so maybe the £1400+ is a realistic ballpark figure?

    Lovely bass by the way...

  7.
VERY VERY good post 6SB
Aye good post.

Interesting to see that both myself and 6sb are in the same "city" and we have both chosen to avoid the delights that are available.

  8.
I'm a computer engineer so it can't be too different, right ?!

I wasn't aware that they glow, I thought that was limited to all tube amps so I will check it out tomorrow.

    Cheers chaps.
I'll let you work out the difference of touching a motherboard running at 5v and 12v dc and touching an amp :)

  9.
Just went for a bash on my ABM - the valve circuit has ceased to function ! The further up I turn the knob, the quieter the signal becomes (since it's a hybrid circuit).

I did the best I could muster by taking it out, looking at it sternly and putting it back in, but alas it was the same.

Does that just sound a like a replacement valve is needed ?
Could be a good start - if you are up to it, take it the chassis out and see if the tube is at least lighting up... but don't blame me if death results...

    :)

Whilst replying to a post by SMART, I thought I would create this post to throw it open to a wider audience. Just goes to show, a goofy bass sound in the mix can come out sounding great....!

    Enjoy!

  11.
Just been 'a clearing and re-organising the loft this evening and grabbed an old CD I haven't played for years (was in a 70s frame of mind...had the 'Best of the Sweet' on before...'Hellraiser' 'twas the very first single [showing my age now!] I ever did buy, followed by 'Gonna Make you A Star' by David Essex [produced by none than Jeff Wayne of 'War Of The Worlds' fame, you can hear his distinctive synth sound pre-TWOTW], then a groovy number called 'Jive Talkin' by them Bee Gees pre-'Saturday Night Fever', then I fell for the theme from 'Van Der Valk' called 'Eye Level' [you young 'uns won't know what I'm rambling on about!] and that was the beginning of a very large TV and film sound track collection...).

Getting back to the point of this new topic, the CD I grabbed was Wings 'Greatest Hits' and along came 'Silly Love Song' with a really great bass riff. Any of you out there tried it? It's great Macca bass playing!

    Just some thoughts.

    Ciao

  12.
buy a cheap zoom multi effects pedal, have a play with it, decide what effects you like, and expand on them with individual pedals

if your new to effects, its the only way
Sound advice - I would have to agree with this approach.

  13.
That horrible speaker fart sound?
You should be able to hear the amp clipping. Soon as it occurs, turn the gain down a bit... apart from that, I guess there isn't a great deal you can do.
