I'm on the home stretch now!
I need to fit new knobs as I've swapped out the MEC pre for a Demeter. One thing is that the pot shafts on the Demeter are much narrower than the previous MEC and they are likely to wobble around in the hole (big hole, little shaft... some things never change), anyone come across any sleeve or fix for this problem?
Oh wow! That looks magic! Did you not consider an orange headstock? Either way, the pumpkin lives on! Thanks for the update I have been watching this thread in anticipation for ages! -
The more I play this bass, the more I love it you know. Anybody who wants a jazz influenced bass on steroids knows where to go and tell the good man I sent you!
-
Bass isn't well represented (the guitar stuff is well good though)... but having said that, they are really good. Highly recommended.

Come to think of it, that sounds like Brighton Guitars
A fair selection. All the heads plus Pro-line, Neo-line and Classic cabs, Gorm and Drome combos and rumour has it the new all bottle Classic 450 head. Since he moved the workshop there is a lot more room for display.
Yup - the Classic 450 head is there... top secret! (I suspect that is one of the things that EBS will be unveuling at NAMM - but I am sure Bernie will show it you!
He normally carries each of the heads and at least a combo, but if there is anything you want to specifically try out, it's worth giving him a phone as he can usually get the stuff back to the shop from the warehouse pretty quickly. He's great for sorting stuff out like that. When I was getting my stuff, I was trying both the prolines and the neos in 10s 12s and 15 formats. I don't know who gets most excited in situations like that... Bernie or the customer!
Don't know about Sydney Street but I'll probably check it out in a couple of weeks when I'm next down there. -
Heading for the bay shortly it would seem!
-
Bumpety bump...
Looks like these will be heading for the bay then! -
any chance of soundclips? im looking for a tube-esce OD.
Cheers.
Umm... I haven't I'm afraid. Haven't got a recording set up either
I'll see what I can find though! -
This is the same bass with a black cherry tort pickguard from Jeannie's.
Ooh! Pretty... I've seen this around the site before... and have to admit, that scratchplate just makes it! -
Is this Wah switch operated (on/off) or does it come on as you press down?
It is switch operated. Press the toe down hard to turn on/off... -
Seafoam (well, surf) green with a white pearl pickguard, I reckon.
Yup - surf is the colour! (not seafoam!)
Cheers! -
You could buy mine!
Got to be a fiver I'm afraid. I miss the bottom B... (and cos I'm lazy to move about the fretboard!) -

Of course, the interesting thing in this picture, is that on top of the classic line cab in the left hand side of the picture... is the all new valve head from EBS. Shh!!! Stay tuned folks - and yeah, of course it sounds awesome! -
My current one is a Geddy in... Yep, you guessed it! Black with maple 'board But my old jazz was a fetching MIM 5-er in Fender's lovely "Midnight Wine." Actually, come to think of it, there was a lovely GB Spritfire last week on the bass porn section in a fantastic transparent chocolate finish - Loveliest bass I've seen for ages!!
Chocolate finish you say? Were you looking at mine or Pyschoandy's GB Spitfire? I've already got one of those(!) - <a href="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8738" target="_blank">http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8738</a>
This is the combo have my eyes on at the moment... what do you guys reckon?
I've photoshopped one up with a black pickguard too... that looks pretty sweet also. Also quite liking the arctic white and midnight wine combos... hmm... decisions, decisions. Not too big a fan of the natural finishes at the moment... I guess it all depends on the niceness of the wood you get... but next to my GB, everything is going to look... well... kinda naked. I want something different also - I have never owned a solid coloured guitar or bass. I've always gone for bursts or natural.
Must admit I do like the stealth all black look - I should point out at this point it will defo be a maple neck...! -
I'm looking at getting a jazz/jazz shape quivalent (e.g Fender/Lakland etc... figure that everybody should have one in their arsenal)
Can somebody show me some nice colours - I am looking for a simplistic solid colour body (so no bursts, or dyed tops) but am not sure what colour to go for. (I am currently favouring a surf green) I am potentially getting one made up so having a custom colour paint job is not an issue at this stage...
so...
post away and lets have a look at the beauties out there.
Also, I know on US Custom guitars there is a make your own guitar flash app - does anybody know of a jazz bass equivalent?
Thanks!
oh... and hope everybody enjoyed their Christmas day! -
Anyway, back to the first post, Rick James is a sick player... like everybody in Raiyn. Jason and Pete are playing with Mark Ronson at the moment...
Check em out at -

I'm sure Rick would have got the gig had Zender not been on bass duty! -
Well I saw the slabs of walnut when Bernie first got them and there was a bass finished with it in the workshop a couple of weeks ago so I am guessing it was this one.
and here's another from that batch of wood...
The post for the 5 is here - Bernie Walnut GB 5 String Spitfire
He did three in total - 2 fours and my five.
Did anybody see the satin black rumour with the blue LEDs at bass day? A complete contrast to the walnut efforts, but oh my, didn't that look the dogs? -
Good stuff!
-
Hence the orange finish... just means I can only play it for a couple of weeks in the year!
Any pics of the finished spray job yet?? -
Yeah great sound. I'd like to know what amp setup he's using
