1. OK, the forum is going mad for Shuker... but why?

I'm not having a go or anything - I am generally interested as I have never seen one in the flesh. They have nothing amazing in the electonics department or anything like that... so what is it that is driving people crazy for them?

I'm going to check them out at Bass Day as I am intrigued to the max.

  2. NOW SOLD - Thanks!

Up for sale along with my Yamaha is my MINT (absolutely MINT in that it is as unmarked as the day it left the factory) - Fender US Deluxe Stratocaster including original SKB case. It's got all the case candy and the trem arm. All the nice touches - including the deluxe headstock logo, locking machine heads, noiseless pickups, deluxe trem, mint scratchplate (in both colour and condition) abalone inlays etc. You can see for yourself - it's sunburst with a rosewood neck. It kind of speaks for itself.

I recall that I bought this new from Denmark Street in 2001 (or maybe early 2002) as a backup to my custom strat. It has expertly been set up and fret dressed by Rob Williams of Woodworm guitars and it plays very nicely indeed. It just doesn't get the playing time that it deserves and it would be nice to see it go to somebody who will enjoy it rather than it sit in a case.

£600. Same as before, PM if you are interested.

So, here are the pics... click on the thumbnail for the larger version.

  4.
MB1. :)

Fender?? .....Nah! its a debadged Warwick?
Nice to see the return of Mr Z, Great pic Tony!
I reckon there is a Trace Elliot wedged in that head somewhere.

Nah, listening to it, it was defo a P through an Ampeg - an unmistakeable sound. Whether you like that sound is out for debate, but it was defo *that* sound.

  5. In addition to my US Fender Deluxe Stratocaster (Click me to see), I am reluctantly selling my black Yamaha Nathan East BB-NE2 5 string bass.

Please see the model details and specification at the Yamaha site (below).

I bought my bass new approximately 12 months ago and it is in exceptional condition. It comes complete with the official Yamaha case which again, is in superb condition. The Yamaha documentation and tools are all there also. It plays really lovely and the preamp really must be heard to be believed.

As you may or may not know, these basses are difficult to find and this bass is just over £2,000 new.

Photos will be up shortly. If you want any extra information, just shout. PS, I am based in the West Midlands. Thanks.

So, with reluctance, please make me a sensible offer via PM.

    - sorry that some of the photos are a bit blurred. I literally took a few snaps, took the memory card out the camera, legged it to the airport and uploaded them from there.

Thanks for the interest and the PMs - I shall respond when I have got some piece and quiet to read them properly.

  6. Checked the man last night. I preferred the Warwick/Trace setup but give him his dues, he played well. Nice groove throughout. I like Ronson's plan, surround yourself by great musicians - he was by far the worst musician stage (in a playing sesnse)... they make him look good.

  7.
Interesting, wonder if he's mic'ed and DI'ed or just mic'ed. I guess that's kind of a dumb question, I'm just so used to DI'ing that seeing a mic'ed bass cab surprises me!

I also wonder how much Ronson is making off this album, surely all the money goes to the copyright owners, which I guess is the people that wrote the songs?
Vintage Ampeg = No oboard DI so hes going to be looking at minimum bass into DI with a feed into the amp.

In terms of amp sound, the sound guys haven't got a lot of options other than to mic. I mean, you could put a load in between the amp and the speaker and tap off a line feed (like some attenuators have)... but then you have to be bothered with speaker sims.

I reckon Ronson is making considerably more from the tours than he could ever hope to make off the album itself...

  8.
I was fortunate to have a photo pass for the Mark Ronson gig in Manchester on Saturday, caught this chap in action, this ain't the best pic' but gives a good view of whats behind him on this tour!

    Tony
Pete Ray Biggin is the guy that's behind him on tour... one of my favest drummers. Anyway, he has always been pretty handy from an early age. Check this - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=u02eZsjLntk - he's the third drummer. No competition in my book...

  9.
One of the good things about having a tutor is they introduce you to players who you would never have appeared on your musical radar.

The latest piece I am struggling to master is "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder...man that's quick. I've cheated and slowed it down to about 70% of it's original speed (Amazing slow downer what a brilliant piece of software). I'm trying as hard as possible but I just can't play it that fast.

So a big shout out to Nathan Watts.
+1 - Nathan is a great player.

  10. "a mismatch in the preamp tubes"?

    Erm. OK.

Glad you getting it sorted anyway. Stick with it, if you are into your clean sounds, these amps are magical, it'll be worth it in the end!

  11.
Good question, would be interesting to know! I know from my experience that it really depends on a lot of things; I suspect there's either one random component they buy which they can't replace with a suitable compliant component or they can't use the correct solder or something...
There are many hazardous materials involved - one of the biggest problem is generally with lead content in the solder. - Whipped from Wiki -

    Lead-free solder

A coil of lead-free solder wireAccording to the European Union Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), lead had to be eliminated from electronic systems by July 1, 2006, leading to much interest in lead-free solders. These contain tin, copper, silver, and sometimes bismuth, indium, zinc, antimony, and other metals in varying amounts. The lead-free replacements for conventional Sn60/Pb40 solder have higher melting points, requiring re-engineering of most components and materials used in electronic assemblies. Lead-free solder joints may produce mechanically weaker joints depending on service and manufacture conditions, which may lead to a decrease in reliability using such solders. "Tin Whiskers" are another problem with many lead-free solders, where slender crystals of tin slowly grow out of the solder joint. These whiskers can bridge a short circuit years after a device's manufacture.

    For those REALLY interested... http://www.npl.co.uk/ei/news/epparticle.html

It wouldn't surprise me if the only ones left in the country are those shipped from last year. If it is because of RoHS, it seems like the 400+ isn't rehashing to make it compliant so they are more likely to start from scratch?

Has anybody sent Mesa an email asking why?

  12. It's a shame actually. I remember Macca playing with a few of those amps behind him and thought - I want one of those. I have a Fender Twin that houses a significant amount of tubes.... and after seeing how many tubes that 400+ takes, I don't think my wallet was ready for taking on another money pit...

A sad day in the bass amp market,Good job I've got one :)
No great loss.

<Stands back and awaits the abuse>

  14. I'm not intending to single out bass_ferret's posts here intentionally but the EBS neo stuff sounds well different to the non neo stuff. To me, they don't feel as warm or fat. I guess you could say they sound more clinical than the standard proline stuff. I did have the neo stuff for a while but shopped it all in for the proline stuff. The lightweight cabs were brilliant, but the proline stuff just sounded better to me... and being a 2x10 person, the weight of a standard 2x10 is not that heavy. Just to echo the following -
Yes I always feel slightly uncomfortable posting in respone to "tell me what to buy" type posts.
- you need to do your own testing and see what your ears like.

  15.
It should work as one as well, and I already have an EB volume, so I'll keep that in mind :)
Make up (or buy) an "insert" cable and use your EB volume pedal as an expression pedal. The EB pedals are much better than the cheap efforts that are out there otherwise.
