OK, just a teaser, but the "Bentley" of GB Spitfires has landed... more pictures to follow and Bernie actually has some photos of the build which he is going to forward on to me. If/when I get them, I shall put an entry in the build forum...

Just a quick spec check -

birdeye maple fingerboard, bound blistered maple neck, american walnut inlays. (35")
american burr walnut bookmatched top, maple binding, american walnut back with matching american burr walnut headstock
    black hardware
the gb electronics and pups - plus the tuner and metronome...

Quite glad I kept the bass traditional with no LEDs... although I would love a Rumour now after seeing the stealth in action at Bass Day. For those who haven't seen Bernie's sound to light show, cop a load of this - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SzM2z5UPppQ

  2.
I wasn't fond of it either at first but just playing it blew any looks issues out the window. Who cares what it looks like as long as its constructed well, sounds amazing and plays incredibly well. It's a musical instrument. How it looks should be only secondary concerns.

It's looks have grown on me somewhat though :)
When I am going to spending that sort of dollar on something, I don't want to wince everytime I look at it! OK, maybe that is a bit harsh but you know what I mean. I agree, it did play well... but personally, I would have gone for a Roscoe instead!

  3. When I transcribe tracks, I usually put the whole track up an octave and slow it down - I find the bass comes through clearer that way.

Just a note to some of the guys having trouble with transcriptions and you a need a quick fix, see if there are any quality versions of the track you are looking at in .mid format (midi files) - get a decent player, mute all tracks apart from the bass and that should give you at least a starting point. Of course, I wouldn't recommend this as the be all and end all as the quality of midi files can vary alot.

Anybody else care to share any transcribing tips?

  4.
You too Russ..... I will.....

It may well become 'available' again shortly though as I am having a MUCH harder time getting my head round that extra string than I thought I would!!!!! even when I just use it as an anchor for my thumb my brain just won't let my fingers go where they should!!!! I'm not going down without a fight though, I'm gonna give it 2 weeks before I decide for certain.

So boys and girls, keep an eye out, she maybe back up for sale. If anyone wants to register thier interest early just in case please feel free!! :)

I must say though Russ..... what a beautiful, beautiful instrument..... and the tone.......... never mind plays like butter the sound melts like it too... just awesome.... Why oh why don't they offer this in a 4 string!!!!!!??????? It really is the mutts!!!!!!

    Cheers
    Paul
Stick with it dude - once you get a hold on the extra string, you won't go back to a 4! It took me a while making the jump for a 4 to a 5 but I wouldn't go back now!

Told you the preamp and pickups are awesome! The amount of intricate bottom end you can get out of it... is well... staggering!

Hope the Cort is living up to expectations too! Looks like your son got a got a nice piece of kit there.

My drooling didn't stop you lot playing them though did it ! Or slow EBS_freaks chops down below 'outrageous' !!

Lucky they weren't Celinders or it could have been worse. :)
Hehe... so... you reckon Celinder is where the action is? I shall have to hunt some down! It's going to take some to beat those Roscoes though! (and GB for that matter!)

  6.
Great to meet you too mate, you had some stunning skills. The Pilot bloke is Flanker. You could also have described him as the one who salivated over everything on the stand!

It was a great day and the atmosphere at the Bass Direct stand was just excellent. I had a brief wander around during the day and came running back to the sanctuary of more 'grown up' players who weren't hell bent on making a godawful racket. That was until I had a go, of course.
Thanks for the compliment dude! Ah - Flanker - I did notice that the strings on all the basses had a slightly wet, tacky feel to them...

Yeah, the Bass Direct stand really made the visit worthwhile for me - both the basses and the people - like your good self! Everything else there I really didn't have much time for... every year I say I won't be going again and yet again, I seem to find myself there...!

  7. I thought the Roscoe stuff was easily the best at the show. (I know what I shall be saving up for next...) - I seemed to spend most of the my time at the show at that particular stand... and Mark, Ped and the other guy (sorry, I forgot your name - the pilot guy) all were sound - nice to meet you all.

End of story. Otherwise, it was a pretty dissapointing affair...

I've got one of those on order. They are back ordered like mad. The first batch is making it to the UK end of November. Peterson said that the interest in the Stroborack has been crazy...

  9.
I learned a hell of a lot from listening to and eventually doing sound for and watching the Climax Blues Band. I think the album's called ''Big Blues'', and is all Willie Dixon reworks, there's only about 3 walking bass tracks but the bass player is great, nice Lakland 5502 too!, i literally learnt to 'walk' from listening to that, and stuff like Dave Brubeck and Blood Sweat and Tears, just listen carefully and try to make sense of why the player's playing what they are, and if you can't make sense of it, nick it anyway!
That'd be a Lakland 55-94 Deluxe...

  10. Is it this one?
hi all,

i just wanted to know if one of you know which speaker is used in the Ampeg 8x10e ?

i think the band is eminence, but i ve no clue about which model.

the power is 800 watts at 4 ohms so, it might be 8x100 watts @ 16 ohms (am i guessing right ?)

the other thing, if someone allready openned one: is the insided damped ? if yes: how much ?

    many thanks in advance :)
