1. i know both RCF and DB do "panel" amps, but maybe only as replacements for existing customers who have killed them.. Would be interesting if a dealer could order just the amp..
2. Honest opinion if you have?? I have a ray but never had the chance to play a lefty Sterling, if enough people give me good news I might just bite the bullet and order one.
i really do like the sterling Ray, sounds like a musicman, therefore its fine by me . The obviously cheaper bit is the the neck, doesnt have the nice chunky well machined feel of the amercian stingray. In terms of the preamp it does seem a little more nasal than your average stingray, but not by much. I do rally like them, but would rather about 100 quid less for one, 599-649 would be more realistic i think. A secondhand one would be immense . It seems most people have plenty of trade horror stories... but of course it has been a difficult time for our industry. Much respect and support to anyone up sh*t creek because of the downturn in business and disappearance of their workplace..
3.
I did. I had the misfortune to work in Duck, Son & Pinker in Bath, generally known as Dusties as the stock never moves. It's also freemason-owned and everyone is paid in cash, so rumours that it functions as a money laundering front are rife. That would certainly explain why they can afford to employ as many salesmen as they do without seemingly turning a profit.
Good story.. I work in my dads guitar shop, Based in walsall. He does more business with PA and disco, but since me and another semi pro bass player have worked there we have managed to build some nice bits of bass kit. We have the normal fender stuff, and a bit of ernie ball. Anything else we have is just stuff we can get on special offer, so other stock is quite varied. Amp wise we Have markbass, Galien krueger and then the standard chinese made stuff. I'm currently loving a ernie ball sterling thats been played by so many people its settled in really nicely Theres also a secondhand vm jazz that i would quite like. Anyone else?
4.
I really don't get why powered cabs are so much more expensive than combo amps. It doesn't make any kind of logical sense.
I imagine it's because it's a relatively new thing, there's not much competition yet, so the price battles haven't begun! Also, all the active cabs out there are lightweight, which of course adds to cost when you have class d amps and neodynium going on
5. I agree with you on that one.. My shuker was a 21st present, so I will be holding on to it for some time to come
6. Must have been major for the owner to be so desperate to do it there...
7. Just wondering how many other people out there who are paid to talk bass rubbish all day wheres your shop, what lines do you specialise in? and which piece of stock are you in love with at the moment?
8. i enjoyed that my mates mxr crbon copy sounded great on my bass, bit pricey though
9. the only ones i know of are the bergantino ip112 (one for sale in the forum) and fore sysems do one i think... although inexpensive ins't the word i would use lol ever thought about getting a class d power amp? secondhand power amps are typically cheaper and louder than bass heads, so if you like the sound of your pre why not go that way? I did and am very happy with my new rig
10. i had a gig in market drayton last night, just up the road from you. I got to the venue bursting for a tinkle to find a turd in the only urinal... funny old world eh!
11. the salesman came out with this jem: "The thing with sadowsky metro basses, they arn't trying to be anything special" anyone else thinks this warrants a 1500 + price tag? surely this isn't one of sadwoky's marketing slogans
12. how long is the amp? you might get lucky and find some rack ears that would go on it and then go in a rack... but you might end up on a wild goose chase. A rack tray is a good option, as thombassmonkey said might not be strong enough, however you can get some that screw into the rack front a back
13. good choice, i dont think the bass terrpr or the markbass stuff goes down to 2ohm, so your probs better off with the eden
14. i went the other day, staff seemed really helpful. Was glad to see the sadowsky stuff... does anyone tink the metro stuff is a bit overpriced when you consider what you can get from a luthier like shuker the same money? There was a lovely sparkly gibson es336 that is possibly the gayest guitar on earth!
15. Does the head need to go down to two ohms? It narrows your choice somewhat
16. Had i not bought the glockenklang i woulda had this.. looks lovely have a bump

Mac ponderings

although a bit basic, garageband comes free with your mac and is very useable, plenty of decent instruments and loops. Always the option of expanding it too, for ore instruments, effects and loops. I think if its the same version of cubase the cpr's should work, i think i did that once in my first year of uni, before i bought my mac... cant remember
18. My quest for a new rig has ended, here is the result Sounds brilliant, the Mid control on the preamp is absolutely amazing, so many useable sounds set up is - Glockenklang bass art classic preamp - STK class d power amp 600w per side (temporary while bigger amp gets a repair) - Mark bass 4x10 "standard" x 2 its good
19. I've been through three fretless basses. Each time i have bought one, tried to use it in a band i just ended up putting down, thinking that it simply doesnt work becuase the sound of the bass wasnt right. So i've sold and bought different ones and had the same problem. Its only since doing new york minute by don henley in a band that my current has sounded right... So i've come to the conclusion that one of the main things in fretless playing is using it in the correct setting
20. strangely enough ive just set one of those aria's up at the studio i work in.. literally 10 mins ago, quite a nice bass
Riiiight, sorry about that. So what do you value it at and why are you getting rid?
21. Fender could use this thread to whittle down its colour chart
22. Buy used definately my fried... And i wouldnt bother waiting for the new TNT, in my oppinion the tnt range has got worse (and heavier) with every offering... the old ones are great.. we have the newest ones in the studio i work in, not only do they sound a bit rubbish but i through my back out carrying one because of how stupidly the handle is placed....
23. Shuker or a Nordstrand... do it! Bass direct have a couple of lovely Nordstrands in stock Or check out the shuker website, i was stuck on what design i wanted for my special birthday custom, every idea i came up with myself was silly, so i seeked inspiration on the website!
24. heres another picture for the benefit of the interest i've had
25. Slightly off white with a tortoise shell pick guard.. that or natural with black pickguard... but natural needs to be yellowish otherwise it looks cheap not that i'm at all picky lol!
What's your favourite Jazz bass colour scheme? I'm a sucker for white jazz basses, white scratchplate, maple neck, white headstock... ....also loved the surf green/maple necked, white scratchplate Nordstrand (Kevin Lindseys I believe) that was for sale on the forum not so long ago.
