  1. What constitutes 'a good rig' could be debated until the cows come home, but I would agree... the best 'tone' or 'sound' or whatever you want to call it that I ever had was through an Ampeg SVT Classic with matching 8X10. Still chasing that sound, really. I'd use a fridge every time, were it not for the practicalities involved in moving the bloody thing from A to B. And back.
  2. Put down the bass, pick up a triangle. Then listen to Reggae, an ting.
  3. *SOLD* DR Lo-Rider Nickel Plated Steel on Hex Core 45-100 *NOW £18 Posted* Fitted these before I realised they are 45-100, when I really wanted 45-105. So take advantage of my stupidity and buy them for £18, including delivery to your atelier. They were on a Fender-style 4 in line headstock for a matter of days. Payment via bank transfer or PayPal please (you pay fees). Now SOLD, thanks.
  4. Nice. Annnnd I'm already regretting selling the Trace combo. Ho-hum.
  5. I'd fit a CS 62 P pickup. Pure fantasy, of course.
  6. As said, the stock pickup on the RoadWorn series is a real cracker. The Entwistle P pickup is good, but doesn't have the vintage tone of the stock pickup. I have had both JBX and JBXN pickups on my Jazz and while they're great and powerful Jazz pickups, I fear the P version may not get you where you want to be. Also, if you've not used TI flats before you may find them a bit 'floppy' for want of a better word. When I had a RoadWorn P, I found that La Bella flats complemented the sound and playability perfectly and if you're looking for the vintage vibe and feel you can't do better. IMHO, of course. One modification I did do was to fit a Sprague Orange Drop cap which really enhanced the tone control a lot. Again, a very vintage sound.
  7. Don't worry, I'll love you a lot more when you give me a fistful of currency.
  8. Well I'll be buggered. Let me look into it. UPDATE: OK, you were on my 'ignore' list. I honestly have NO idea how that happened!
  9. Are you serious about not being able to PM me..? I've had quite a few this morning...
  10. The whole thing goes together marvellously. If I hadn't just recently spent my wad on a box (bought a combo), this would be mine...
  11. Well if you want it, you can have it! First to get here with cash in their hot hands gets the combo.
  12. Good Lord. It's worth £400 just for the pickguard.
  13. That's where it needs to be with my passive Jazz! I rarely get the clip light even at full beans! Conversely, I have to have the Master at about 8 o'clock otherwise the foundations of the house start to tremble, a pit opens in the floor and hordes of Satan's bats fly up the chimney!
  14. Yes, it's all relative - back in the day I rocked an Ampeg SVT CL with matching 8X10 in flight cases - and thought little of it. I was much younger, stronger and more stupid then though, and there were very few 'lightweight' rigs about. Also thought about fitting castors, but this combo is in such good condition I don't want to compromise it's 'originality'... one day a totally original, undamaged, unmolested Trace combo is going to be worth thousands! I'll probably be dead by then, but whatever...
  15. I hope you played those lines exactly as they are on the recording!
  16. I remember Trace extolling the virtues of their 'lightweight' combos... in 1997 this was a 'compact solution'...
  17. The hat was doing another gig elsewhere. It's actually more famous than George.
  18. Thanks, I need to shift it soon. It's mass is distorting the local space/time continuum.
  19. Well that's the closer one for sure, but as I drove quite a long way yesterday in the rain and wind to pick up another combo, I'm a bit reluctant to gird my loins and deliver this one to you - hope you don't mind.
  20. Thanks for the comment. Where are you, just out of interest?
  21. *SOLD* Trace Elliot 715 GP7 SMC 150W Combo Obviously, you know what this is. And given the quality of build, components and facilities available, this is a ridiculous bargain - especially given the condition, which is exceptionally good as you can see from the pics. This example has been standing in a recording studio for twenty years, has had very little use, and has been recently serviced. I really don't want to sell it, but even though it's ostensibly 'only' 150W RMS, it's still way too loud for my current band, a folk/Americana outfit. They play so quietly, it's ridiculous - I have to have this combo at a lower volume level at gigs than I use at home! I need a much smaller, quieter amp. This combo can very easily keep up with a shed-building drummer and loud guitarists, don't let the power rating put you off - these are 'Trace Watts'. Everything works as you'd expect and it's complete, no missing knobs or buttons and no rips, tears or staining to the fabric covering. It has had a very easy life. This one's marked 'Clive Button' on the PCB and was made in 1997, making it pre-Gibson era. It has the very useful single-knob dual-band compressor and still has the original custom Celestion 15" driver fitted. Just £95 for a quick sale, cash on collection please. Or bank transfer then collection, it's up to you. It's a bit heavy for posting and in any case I had a negative experience sending a combo via courier recently, so I'm not doing that any more. I'm in SE London near the A205 South Circular, down Sydenham/Crystal Palace/Forest Hill way. I could probably get a lot more for it if I sold it on the Bay, but I just can't bring myself to deal with all the wasters and deadbeats... If you've been dawdling and deliberating over a Trace combo, do yourself a favour, get in and get yourself a real bargain. Now SOLD, I thank you!
