1. I had one for a while, gigged it loads! The BEST thing about the bass is how bright and definded it is! The maple body, paired with those Duncan pickups creates a monster of a bass! If your after a jazz that you could slap all day long on, but you cant fork out for a marcus or one of the RI jazz's, then this is it! I played mine for the most part stock. Infact all i did, tonal wise, was put a graphtech nut on! It didnt make any major improvement, but harmonics rang out a little more and it completed the look of the black binding! I also put some jazz knobs on, an ashtray for a short while (although i found my self wanting to rest at the bridge pup!) and some EMG style pup covers. Also popped an orange drop cap in there too! Come too think of it, i sanded under the bridge as the lacqure is layed on thick. That helped resonance and sustain. I wish i swapped the pots out, new bridge the its sorted! Im after a jazz now, and haven played the CV many times i was set on it! Its a little tamer than the VM but the rosewood neck and that Gotoh w/brass saddles style bridge is great for getting those lows mids fat and fast! As the CV comes with (i think) squier standard pups id maybe switch them out along with the electronics! Now ive gotta wait until i can get my hands on a 77vm, as i wont be purchasing the CV until ive tried one. They are great looking basses.....then again all 3 are! Just take too account what you need from a jazz and pick the one that suits you best!
2. I agree on the Line6 comment Im in the same boat too! Ive had a digitech synth wah for about 4 years now and never found it useful in a live/jam situation. Ive used it once in the studio using some of the filters. Oh, and the countless hours in my room trying to find a decent sound from it! I think the only useable envelope is the sub-octave setting, even then theres still that volume drop (hence, sh*t for live) and the effect is just loads of rumble, with that slight top end 'wahh' which doesnt cut through. If your after a 'funk' underwater envelope effect, in one small USEABLE box, that isnt to hard to find a setting that works.....like myself. Ive narrowed it down to 3. (well kinda) For money, and ease of use theres the DOD FX-25 (or fx-25b, but an apparent volume drop has left me unsure) Still good money for the nano version, but you can pay for what you require. The EHX Q-Tron. And if you want as much control as the Q-Tron+ but want a smaller package, then you have the EBS BassIQ.

The finish and grain looks amazing, wish i had the cash
5. Your basically looking at any bass that has connections to EBMM. OLP SUB Sterling Ray Stingray In that order for price. For 200 you could get a 4string OLP or a 5 string OLP. For maybe 50 more, and you wait abit (especially for 4 string) you can pickup the HH OLPs. Then, youll want to slowly build the bass up. New pup first, if however expensive, just grab a graphtech nut and if your still keeping it passive put fresh pots, wiring, jack and shield it out! Above all else get it set up properly with some medium/heavy strings to give it thatOHMMP. Ofcourse, buy this point you wouldnt be far of a SUB. Well if your putting a bassline + pre in. Its all down to money right? IMHO a gutted out OLP will sound great for what ever your doing. Unless the off chance some offers you a bass duel with a real stinger.....then your fooked
6. I'm finding my P bass lyte lacking under the belt. Obviously my first port of call would be pickup/preamp replacement, but im really unsure of modding it. I was really keen on keeping it stock! I suppose if i came the sell it, i could reinstall the original parts. Its a P/J config, so i'm instantly drawn to a set of EMGs..... (thanks to owd Wooten!!) But i have heard putting basslines in it really puts the lowend back in! Both of these options, including pre's are around the 100 mark. Which is alot of money, however if spending the dosh gives the desired affect, this bass would be perfect. Oh, also looking at villex, for a cheaper, passive alternative. Cheers in advance! Nick.
7. Hi there, for my next project i plan to purchase an OLP MM2 and change out the internals. The planned pickup thats going in there is a kent armstrong. Do you think i could fit a small preamp in that cavity or would i need too route it out? Id be looking at maybe those sabre remakes on the 'bay or kentarmstrong. It would also be 2eq. If not, what sort of options do i have passively? I dont want the option of coil splitting, but just a Master volume, push/pull pot for series/parrallel. But what after this? Just a tone control, too roll off highs? Is the any way i could CUT a certain frequency of choice (400/800hz) via a 2way switch? Cheers!
8. Meh, my Eden EN400 crapped out on me....not impressed really! The repair guy said it was cheaply made too, faulty (or un-needed wiring) and also commented on the state of the soldering....

10. I had a Peavey TNT 150. I was loud, very loud and sounded very good for the price i paid. If you can find one for cheap, get it. On issue i had with it was it was very heavy.....
11. Kent Armstrong MM replacment pups are really good! Can be used with a preamp or passively. Also, if you felt like getting you hands dirty, you could put a series/parallel switch in. Because the coils in the pup are spaced wider apart compared to the original and, say the SD, you get more of a change in sound. A much dirtier, thicker MM sound
12. But stingrays cost 1500 and OLPs cost just under 400 (including mods). Have you checked out Kent Armstrong pups? They can make an OLP have that stingray sound. I once played a HH stingray, late 80's I think. The neck pup was a KA and it sounded....just unbelievable. i do share your love of the OLP (pretty strange eh!) and John East can do some magical things! How did the G-string go during practice? Much noticeable lack in balls?
13. So my budget is around 300. The 2 cheapest I found at the same price are the GK and Warwick. I'm etching towards the GK as I love the sound, but I like to get an overall opinion on the cabs. Would it be worth getting a few more pennies and aiming higher? Hartke and TC? Or even a Phil jones 4x5 at the same price. I'm quite fond of the coil switching on the Hartke too. The initial plan was to get the GK 112, then when I need the power buy another 112 for optop. However the 'new' MK:2 ver. 112 had it's dimensions changed to match the 210 specs. I'm thinking 1x12 with the 2x10 above it would be a beastly mini rig. Thoughts? Regards!
14. Hi, I have a Genz Benz Neo 212 here for sale/trade. At the moment I'd prefer the trade as it can save me the trouble of finding a new one secondhand. So, I'm after any Neo 112 cab and about 150 cash onto. Straight cash, about 450. This cab will be pickup only as I have no transport. PM for further details and pictures. Cheers !
15. I've got of these I'm looking to be rid of. 400 or trade for 2 112's
16. Hey! I notice you got a Genz-Benz Shuttle head, i'm looking to get rid of my Genz-Benz neo 2x12 and wondered if you'd be intrested in a trade for you 2 1x12's? These where the cabs i was looking into buying when i get rid of it anyway. Cheers!
17. I may have to buy one of these for practice/smaller gigs, coming in at £300 its a mighty contender for a decently priced Neo driver! Very very light cabinet too! I've heard many good things about these, but is there anything i should be looking out for when purchasing? Also, has anyone stacked 2 together? Just a future idea. Tbh, the lightest 'Big' rig i could think of would be 2 of these and a MB2-500 ontop. Any experiences?? Cheers!
18. I had a VM with passive EMGs. After about a month of gigging and getting toomuch fat low/lowmids sound i put the ducans back in they are killer pickups and suit the VM jazz very very nicely. if you sell the bass with the EMGs in and still have the Ducans going i'll have them off you
19.
Still, my Tonefactor 442 red arrived in the post today though (cheers Deej), so hopefull will have something positive to add later!
Please do I think i'm just gonna grab a micro Q-Tron of the 'bay, Cheap and reliable. Unless i find a decent condition FX-25. Anyone know of any mods for the FX-25 or Q-Tron. Just so it can handle bass better?
20.
I just love my digitech bsw and never had a volume issue either, but then inrun a compressor last in my fx chain to even out any issues caused by the fx
What mode do you mainly use it on. The synths are really thick and i've had no issues using them, but i never needed synth, i only have issues with the envelope sound (Which is what i want). Might need to try the envelope w/ octave down during next practice. See if it'll cut through more.
21. Another common combination is the 210xst and the 212xlt on top. I'd proberbly go with the 210xst (4ohm) for practice/small gigs. And grab 2 1x12 neos (8ohms each) so you could have either a 2x12 rig, 210 w/ 112 or even all 3. If i were using all 3 however, it'd be bigger stages and i'd run the 2nd 112 on the other side of the drummer, next to my guitarist so our sound stage is a bit more prominent. More for the sakes of my guitarist and drummer than myself or the audience. but i'm nice that way More Eden bass sound for everyone i think
22. How would you guys rate the DOD FX-25? Not the 25B I've been looking for a decent envelope for a while. I own the Digitech synth wah which IMHO is very good. You can get good synths but not a decent envelope. Also the bass/vol loss means its not useable live. I've heard that the DOD fx-25 has no volume drop and can handle lowend well. Does the Micro Q-tron have a noticable drop in volume/bass? I wish the FX-25B had no lose in volume, because the blend knob alows you to retain the lowend alot more. And they'r cheap as chips
23. I've heard alot of good things about the Nordstrands. The Lane Poor (Which flea had on his punk modulus) and barts are also highly recommended. But i've already got my heart set on the PUP: http://www.wdmusic.com/musicman_bass_pickup.html At only £50 also its a beast. Very very good sound. I think i'll have to buy my own customized East pre. John said that he can put the Series/Parallel switch on the master Vol pot and also put a Bright switch like the sabres, but with more of a boost so it DOES make a difference. Hes such a nice and helpful guy, makes some quality pres also.
24. How do they go? I've heard issues of noise about them a few times. In what aspects are they similar to the Stingray preamp? I'm thinking of replacing it for a East preamp, which is based on the pre EB stingrays, but with Johns extra something Money wise, SUB/Pre/PUP, it'd work out about the same as buying a New Sterling Ball RAY bass. But i'm thinking the SUB with an East pre would sound better, or closer to a real Stingray. Just looking for opinions really Cheers -Nick
