xgsjx, thanks for the input man, i won't be able to play through the amp unfortunately as Im buying it of a fella on gumtree and don't have a head for it that is sound advice though, try before you buy and all that. To be honest, im verging towards goin for cab, its cheap enough and powerful and has good reviews on here and talkbass. cheers Michael

Hi, im looking to upgrade my cheap and cheerful combo for a head and 4x10 cab configuration that doesn't fart out when pushed above halfway at medium sized pub gigs. A local fella is selling a Hartke 410 XL and I plan to pair it up with a Gallien Krueger Backline/400RB head. I have chatted with another bass player and he suggested that I'll need a cab with a tweeter (which the Hartke doesn't have) to get that "GK sound", (upper mids maybe?) im after. I play mostly classic rock but enjoy more modern bass sounds too e.g. RHCP, Muse. Obviously im not looking to exactly replicate these bands sounds (not on my budget ) but id like a fairly loud, fairly modern, punchy sound that will cut through in the mix. I know the GK sound and "growl" has a lot to do with the "boost" control also so could i mix it with the Hartke and get the growl im after or should I just buy a GK combo/cab with a tweeter? Any help/experiences with these amps would be greatly appreciated, cheers, Mick

Hi guys, so like the title says, anyone read any good bass/music related biographies lately? I personally loved the "Jaco" book by Bill Milkowski and Joel Mc Iver's book "To Live is to die", the story of the late, great Cliff Burton. Ozzys book is amazing too(at least one laugh out loud every page) as is the "Fornication" book on the Chili Peppers. Anyone else got any suggestions? Cheers Michael

[/quote] sorry V2factoryman, i only just spotted this thread again. i dont think you need the Darkglass to get Musey sounds no, although I haven't got one so can't be certain of that. I only commented on the Darkglass as it is one of my dream buys but it'll be a while before i get one heres a vid of Muse via Darkglass, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSB_-ZxTDXA I know Chris uses a Boss LS2 to mix in some dry signal with his Animato and other pedals, he always has that clean undercurrent for all his effects to keep the bottom end. Im treading carefully here as I don't want to give advice that may lead to you purchasing a pedal you might not be happy with (ive done it tons of times). all i can tell you is even through my pretty crap behringer combo (svaing up for new amp ), the Hardwire CM2 sounds great for Muse tunes e.g. dead star, darkshines and is a fraction of the price of an Animato. The Hardwire also gives a nice wee touch of grit if you want it so would be fairly versatile too although id say the Darkglass has a lot more tones in its arsenal. Up to yourself man, the digitech is fairly cheap and i love it, id suggest hitting your local guitar store and giving it a go (theyre made for guitar and are at entry level price so id say most guitar stores would have them in stock). If you do decide to get one, make sure you search ebay (got mine for £20 cheaper than most sites) Hope this helps, sorry bout delayed response Michael

ive got a digitech hardwire cm2 for musey distortion sounds e.g. hyper music, newborn. cost less than £50 for ex display model off ebay. sounds great, according to muse expert on talkbass (Kaputsport), it isn't a million miles off the Animato (either btw is a Turbo Rat). Pedal has low and high switches and keeps good bit of low end so shouldnt be problem. If it was me, id get the B3K and sell the Animato and pick up the Hardwire. just my opinion tho:) hope this helps
