2. ive got some in a P i made myself, but its fretless with nylon strings. They sound phat and warm but most of that will come from the bass/strings so i don't really know. Erm good value for money and loads better than the unbranded stock p ups that were in before. Sorry this isnt very helpful By the way check on ebay, i picked mine up for about £15
3. nice interpretation and, as always stellar playing!
4. 2 from me and one in the planning stage before construction, does that count as a quarter?
5. I bite mine so im ok. I tried really hard to stop so I could do the stanley clarke flamanco-y strumming thing, and I managed it! But when slapping i started cutting into the wood of my bass by the neck pickup so then I started again
6. bass is shaping up very nicely, i should really be angry at it for making me get GAS for another of Robbie's basses, just out of interest Robbie if I do get a bass made will I be the first person to own 2??
7. +1 cheers for that, i'd actually given up on the technique due to a bout of extreme lazyness but im back at it now and that helps a lot:)
8. it'd be good for punk, erm ...... maybe

11.
Yeah, I'm with you thumb4bob. I think that's a very special looking instrument, probably the nicest Carl Thompson I've seen since Claypool first showed off the Rainbow bass. Not sure I'd ever consider dropping that kind of coin on such a bass, but I could definitely see people being interested. I'd say the main problem the seller will have is the weak US dollar rate at present, as I think this bass would have a lot more appeal in the US than in Europe.
Yeah its definatly an unlucky time for selling there's a CT for sale on ctbasses.com + one on the bay at the mo, they must be like buses! Right about the dollar as well although anybody with that kind of cash to splash would have to consider it. Ive started saving for it 2day so hopefully it wont shift for another 5 years to give me time to get the cash. And Jim will be able to play it for another 5 years, see everybody wins:) By the way Jim have you thought about putting it on ctbasses I think it would sell pretty quick, not often you see more modern CT's on there.
12. my first gig was with my first proper band, id been playing for about a year prior to it, I had a week to learn an hour's worth of quite technical funk/rock/metal, needles to say I practiced my proverbial behind off but still wasnt ready. Combined with the fact it was my first ever gig I was kaking myself before we started so I decided to very quickly write the entire set out in tab before I went on, which I managed with my guitarists help. When it was time I took to the stage stacks of paper in hand and feeling much more confortable, unfortunatly there was a fan set up to stop the drummers from overheating at the side of the stage. My pile of paper managed to stay completely unaffected by the fan until the band kicked in and I hit my first note, when a collection of paper rained down upon the audience. I forgot parts and had to freestyle several bits from watching the left hand of my guitarist but all in all it went ok p.s. it was the only time ive ever thanked a soundman for thinking bass should be an inaudible rumble in the back of the mix
13. wow thats the nicest looking EUB ive ever seen
14. what strings does the bass have on in the pics?
15. Holy Cow!!! That really is all kinds of beutiful. Thank you Jim for giving me my new pc background, ive waited years to see a CT on this forum. Can I just say its more than Claypool that sings Carl's praises, Anthony Jackson and Stanley Clarke being a couple of examples. Also that if this bass only appeals to 0.1 percent of bass players it only shows how little imagination people have and how a shape that isnt a fender or gibson "standard" will scare the pants off those same people. Also Carl gave the world the 6 string bass and the picollo bass so regardless of what people may think about spending five thousand on an instument (CT's are the only time I would personally even think of spending anywhere near that amount) everyone on this forum owes a great debt to the man for expanding ways for people to express themselves in the lower frequencies.
16. nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I dont check the forum for 2 weeks and someone sells my dream acoustic
17. BUMP never heard of jp until this thread, thanks for showing me another great custom bass maker even if it is a bit late
18. well im a philosophy student so I saw this topic and had to post something But Im not sure Descartes or Rousseau had an opinion on P bass basses. Sooooooo i think it depends wheather your defining the P bass as THE electric bass (because it was the first) or as the electric fender P bass. As the first ever mass produced electric bass guitar it has been vastly improved on in my opinion, but then if it hadn't in over 50 years it would be a sad state of affairs. I don't personally think these high end companies make a better P than if you bought an old school fender model simply because nothing can be a better P bass than a P bass. If you make it sound "better" (cleaner, more modern) than you don't have a fender P bass you have something else. All these companies really do is make modern instruments in the shape of the P and Jazz because people are still atracted to those shapes but want a modern tone. Having said that I can understand people wanting the fender shapes especially people older than me simply becuse there was a good bet most of your favourate bassists played one. If some watches all there heroes playing these instruments it goes into their subconscious and when it becomes time for them to pick up an istrument and they want to play like jaco, obvious mental link buy a fender jazz! I would bet money on this happening less and less as the generations go by and fender has more and more competition in the market. Phew
