2. My OLP 5-string originally came wired with a vol-vol-tone setup, but would tend to hum if the two volume knobs were not set at exactly the same level. This was generally tricky to do, so I pretty much always had them both fully on or fully off. I decided to rewire the bass with a single volume and tone, and use a mini-toggle for parallel / split wiring on the humbucker. I ordered a DPDT switch (it was a pack on 5 on eBay), some cloth-covered push-back wire, and they arrived a couple days ago. While I was at it, I decided to get some copper foil to do a full shielding job. The soldering in the bass is pretty bad... I'm not very good at soldering myself, but I don't do it very often and certainly not for a living, but I think the wiring is neater now than it was, in spite of the added wires required for the switching. I quite like the new look - I replaced the middle pot, so it now has the two knobs on the "outside", with the mini-toggle between them. Plugging in, I found out that the cheap pickup in the OLP had incorrect colour coding, so I was getting phase-cancellation. Switched the wires around, no problem. End result - the bass sounds much better than it did! In parallel mode, it sounds just like it did before, except now I have full control over the volume without fumbling or hum. The series mode has a little more volume and has a nice midrangey quality which works well for fingerstyle. I think everyone who owns one of these OLP passive basses should consider this mod... it costs practically nothing and makes the bass much, much more versatile!
 3.
Hartke are a brilliant compromise. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I don't think so either... it's just a question of something in this price range, or waiting for something like a secondhand EBS head to go with my EBS 2x12", or maybe something really compact like a Little Mark II.
 4.
therealthing did you get a bargain in Luton to? I picked up a Stingray 5 there last week and and couldn't believe I had missed that Mark was also selling a 212 for a great price, I would have snapped it up to go with the one I already have - or is that just being greedy?
Yup, I bought the 2x12" from Mark, I still can't believe I got it for 300 quid. How do you find it goes with the HA3500? Is the HA3500 happy enough driving the 2x12"?
 5.
Is that the diplomatic way of saying a cheeky offer?
I don't think it's THAT cheeky an offer... I'm just not absolutely certain yet if I'll buy the amp even if it's accepted. I'm kind of torn between getting something like this, or really pushing the boat out for something high-end.
 6. I now have an EBS Neo 2x12 which I got for near enough a steal. Would love to have this as a matching cab but can't justify the purchase of a second one at the moment. Let me know if the cab doesn't sell and you decide to lower the price in future.
 7.
Now on ebay Item number: 160139857375
Are stacked knobs generally a standard size? Was thinking of buying a preamp with a sweepable mid, and I'd have to buy stacked knobs for it.
 8. You could use a dummy load device such as a THD Hotplate or a Sequis Motherload to act as a "speaker" for the amp, and take a line out from that. This way, you get the full benefits of pre and power tube colouration.
 9. Foolish me for turning away such a good offer when it came along... glad you've found a way to make it work for you!
 10.
Thanks - PM replied to... still for sale
I've just bought a beautiful EBS Neo 4 ohm cab and may be interested again in trying this in the near future, if it's still available.
 11. You'll all be relieved to hear that I bought an EBS Neo 2x12" cab this evening. Can't wait to hear it at full tilt in rehearsal tomorrow!
 12.
Anybody going to this? anyone know if there's a charge? I could just call them, but y'know, the interwebs is always better than the phone. steve www.stevelawson.net
Good fun clinic it was... Tony is a genuinely cool guy!
 13.
PM'd re GK
Met Mark, wife and rabbit this evening. Thanks for the cab - it's beautiful!

 15.
condition for both is exceptionally good. the EBS cab has lost the plastic cap for its horn attentuator, but there is no damage to the pot shaft and I find I can twist it easily enough without it. I'm pretty sure you could get a replacement for next to nothing.
You have more PM.
 16. What's your location and what are you looking for for it?
 17. Again, thanks for all your input. I'll definitely not get these cabs! Sure, the low cost appeals to me, but I'm also attracted by their compact size and light weight. What about something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AudioPro-Proel-500-w...oQQcmdZViewItem Or should I generally avoid bass bins in favour of bass cabs?
 18. Ok, I'll repeat... Is the poor sensitivity a question of a bad speaker driver, or poor cabinet design? If it's mostly a bad speaker, I certainly wouldn't mind swapping out the speaker... I was more wondering about the general idea of the thing. Some of the bass bins come with mid-range Eminence drivers which are probably better? I know they have bad frequency response, but that's mainly because of the low-pass filter. I'm mainly wondering what they are like as cabs. For 50 quid a cab, I don't mind paying to put new speakers in.

 20.
Did you try out any other EUB's before buying this one? How does the sound compare to an NS? As an electric bassist and fretless player I am looking to get an EUB but don't really know where to start. I would welcome anyone else's comments also.
NS Design makes some nice instruments, to my ear they sound closer to a big fretless bass guitar than the Bassix instruments... this is not to say that they don't sound good, just different. The necks are different too, I think one of the NS Design ranges has a thinner neck with a concave back surface while this EUB has a thick, chunky neck closer to that of a real URB. The other thing I like about this one is that it has a spike and a curvy frame which feels more natural to sway along to, as opposed to the NS Design basses which are mounted on a cymbal stand. Again, not better or worse, just different.
 21. Was wondering whether anyone's tried using speakers like these in their bass rig: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PAIR-New-300-Watt-15...1QQcmdZViewItem They're inexpensive, compact and pretty lightweight... I know I'd have to remove the passive low-pass-filter, but otherwise, is there anything to stop me getting a pair of 15" bass bins to use as bass speakers for pub gigs where I don't want to worry too much about beer being spilt over my equipment?
 22. Wow, really nice site. I'm looking purely for a black plastic dot though, and they only have fancy things. Maybe a single different dot could be cool though... Does anyone know the exact dot size for these basses? I don't have a ruler accurate enough.
 23.
i know, but you know how it is im sure! Anyway, you could probably have a road trip to blackpool, get the amp, go on a bender, and STILL have it as a steal!
Well to be fair, if you were in London you definitely wouldn't be having this much trouble selling it. Blackpool's just too far for me to drive to at the moment, I won't have a day off for a couple weeks at least, and it will be gone by then!
 24. 250 quid!! That is a serious bargain... that's about what just the cab goes for new. If you were in London, I'd be around your house now picking it up.
