18. I managed to get hold of a 1969 P bass for Chris and he has possibly been the most courteous Basschatter I have had the pleasure to encounter. The whole thing has taken a while (but never rush a good thing) but Chris has remained calm & patient throughout.....and best of all, paid me before I asked him to :-) Thanks Chris....I await the next request !! Cheers, Si
19. Alan bought my 1965 Fender P bass - although he preferred water to my fabulous coffee, I won't hold it against him :-) Great guy, easy transaction, highly recommended. Cheers, Si

21. From late '68 until sometime in the mid-late 70's Fender painted the entire neck with clear poly. Then, after drying, they applied the decal and sealed it with a clear coat of lacquer. This was because they decided they wanted to protect the decal, but the poly finish reacted with the decal (it wrinkled), so they stopped. If a bass has been exposed to UV, the head stock can turn very, very dark amber, while the clear poly on the rest of the neck remains quite clear white.... Its a different story pre-68....or the 'golden age' :-)
