Bass V

I think it speaks volumes that when Leo was asked about the Bass V later in his life, he had no recollection of it whatsoever.

Bass V

I recently bought this 1966 Fender Bass V - I think these were the first ever 5 string basses. As it has 4 more strings than are good for me, I just thought I'd post a couple of pics and ask you guys to post pics of your 5 string beasts to see how the evolution continued Cheers, Si
3.
My current crop of Precisions L-R 1965 (Refin, Ex Si.) 1978 (all orig), 1982 Walnut Special (all orig, Ex WOT), 1992 Mex (upgraded everything!) 2010 Roger Waters build, (Mighty Mite, All Parts, USA Vintage Fender hardware).
Hey Dave, They all look fantastic mate - nice one. Cheers, Si
4. Hi All, Up for sale is my 1946/7 Gibson ES300 (plus original case) - £1900 ono or trade offers welcome. It sounds fantastic, either acoustically or through an amp. I have dated it based on the specifications of the ES300 during the 40s as the white label that would normally be inside the body has long gone. The only non-original part is the bridge tailpiece and the pickguard is unfortunately missing. It has also had some work done to stabilise the neck, which is as solid as a rock. I attach pics. Please PM me with any questions. Cheers, Si
5. I visited Jack with my 8 year old bodyguard a couple of days ago and we were both made very welcome by Jack and his family. We chatted, played bass, drank coffee and did a deal. A true credit to basschat and I could not recommend him more highly to you all. Cheers, Si
6. Just completed a p/ex plus cash deal with Dave - very fast, very smooth, very satisfactory ! Thanks Dave. Cheers, Si
7. Hi All, The deal on this beauty fell through unfortunately, so up for sale again just in time for Xmas Cheers, Si
8. Hi James, its your classic white primer undercoat, widely used in the 60s. I've had quite a bit of interest and expect it to go this week but will contact you if not. You'd be very welcome to come and have a look. Cheers, Si
Thanks Si, interesting stuff I've got a few 70's Jazzes and a 70's strat and they all have signatures in the pocket but nothing like this. It's lovely, would like more info on the finish - what's the undercoat? i can see white but I know some were gold, some were silver? I will keep an eye on this one if noone takes it give me a PM after christmas and I'll come and have a look? James
9. Hi Jay, I've seen plenty of this type of lettering in Fender neck pockets over the years - most likely done by a Fender employee - possibly his initials, possibly to id a special order, possibly a goodbye message. I'll need to re-check to see if there's any lacquer over it to see if so, or whether maybe a previous owner did it for security / identification. Fender employees were well known for scrawling stuff in neck pockets and on neck butts (other than the usual dates and sigs) - the most famous of which was obviously the 'rude' message an employee etched which led to a period during the first half of '59 when all pencil marks were banned by Leo himself, as a customer complained about it. Cheers, Si
10. I've just sold my black 75 P-bass to PauBass (Pablo) - fantastic guy, drove up from Brighton to collect. A credit to Basschat !! Si
11. Thanks Happy Jack. No, its not a refin - 100% original. My main interest is in vintage Fender basses and guitars but also collect and play Rickenbacker, Gretsch and Gibson. To be really honest, I'm not into 5 string basses or fretless. All the best, Si
12. Hi All, Up for sale is my 100% original CAR '66 p-bass, plus slightly later period Fender 'tail' case ('67 - '71 era). Serial number 121618, pots date to '66, neck stamp Feb '66. Weighs in at 8.8lb. Looking for £3,750 or trades with cash either way as appropriate. Checking and dings as you'd expect from a bass this age. Frets and neck in great shape. Cheers, Si
13. Cheers Frank. Can I take 3 of the strings off is my big question...possibly all 4 and just mime with it in a darkened room
14.
Hello Si What are you after as a trade, Have a 5 string Warwick SS 1 + cash if your interested Frank
Hi Frank, If I'm really honest I'm more interested in 4 string, fretted basses. I'm too poor a player to go fretless and 1 string would be more than plenty for my useless technique ! Thanks though, Cheers, Si
15. Hey mate ! Oh crikey - plenty more where this came from
16. Nice one Kevin I just always associate old Brucey with the 4001.....
17. Hi LC, Many thanks - this one is the part and hasn't been repainted - I attach a pic of the neck pocket. Cheers, Si
18. Hi All, Up for sale is my black '75 p-bass, all original plus original case. Fabulous condition as hopefully you can see from the photos. Serial number 590933, pots and pups date to '75. Weighs in at 10lb. Looking for £1,600 or up for trades with cash either way as appropriate. Satisfy your JJ Burnel fantasy with this beauty Cheers, Si
19. Hey Nick - good to hear from you and hope all's well. Yes, that burgundyglo was a fantastic bass and you could certainly give it a better work out than I ever could. Steve - sorry mate....but the 4000 is waiting for you if you want it hope all's well with you
I picked up the burgundyglo 78 off Simon recently. Legendary bass. It's a wonderful instrument ... really, really light, well balanced with a thin neck. I've strung it with thomastik flats. Huge, beefy, sustain forever bass. I've never played a bass which has such an even sound from low through the upper register. Mental. It is also mint as in just off the shop floor mint. A rare find... I can vouch for the blue 4000 which I played too before I bought the 78. It had a bigger P-bass sound to it. It felt very good too. Nice bass.
20. Hi All, Up for sale is my Azureglo Rickenbacker 4000 Bass, serial number VG1964 which dates it to July 1982, plus Ric case. It is in fantastic condition and plays really well. It has one or two very minor dings although the only ones really worth mentioning are on the top of the headstock (see pic). I'm looking for £1,000 collected or can post for an extra £25 in the UK. Would also consider trades, plus cash either way as appropriate. All the best, Si
21. Thanks for your comments on my 65 sonic blue refin. I attach a photo of the body having been initially sanded down - no large chunks out of it as you can see. The neck hasn't been oversprayed. One thing I can guarantee is that it plays wonderfully well.
