You must possibly be refering to Chris..who now owns Intune Music in Camberley,i played in a band with him for a couple of years, really good musician..he played Keys and guitar then, but now plays bass. I will tell him next time i'm there LOL edit Found a pic..is this him?..and his shop is in Sandhurst, near Camberley.
Isn't that Steve Wright ? It could well be him, although I'm sure the glasses back then were more Ronnie Barker than Ronnie Lane. Anywaysup, feel free to tell him from me that I did eventually buy a fretless......and he was bloomin' well right all along ps. here's my other fav bass player. I found myself walking beside him along the new kings road before xmas - couldn't pluck up the courage to say anything, although not sure that's the done thing - has anyone ever just approached one of their heroes ? What on earth do you say ?!
 2.
Hi there from Cobham - another near-neighbour! I was a teenage JJ Burnel fanatic myself (even after I discovered Bernard Edwards of Chic). Malc
Hi Malc......all hail !
 3. My 65 and 66. Am in the market for a pre-cbs, anyone selling one ?
 4.
Welcome from Bisley, I don't have any Jam stories I'm afraid, but I did frequent ABC in Addlestone on a Saturday morning during the early 70's. Craig
Hi Craig, Nice one - do you remember the bloke that seemed to me to be the manager (ie. he was the oldest) - looked like a cross between sgt bilko and eric morecambe ? I asked him if I could have a play on a fretless once and he said 'no, it'll be too difficult for you' - quite the salesman
 5.
Hmm wasn't much of a Weller or Jam fan, although I always thought Bruce Foxton was awesome (back in the day). Closest thing I have to a Paul Weller story was that I did stand in line in a newsagents (in our village) behind him - and he seemed very short (not that I'm particularily tall). Sorry, I've nothing more exciting on that front
I've just remembered my only other very tenuous Weller story - for those that know Woking town centre quite well, you always used to be able to sneakily park for free on a saturday off the Goldsworth road in the old News & Mail car park, avoiding at least 20 pence for a ticket. On returning to my Cortina one bright sat morning who should I pass having pulled the same trick....yes, the Modfather himself..... I hear that Bruce is plays on a track on the new PW record - fantastic
 6.
My God, ABC music disappeared absolutely ages ago, that brings back some memories. Sold a nice little Session bass combo to them a long long time ago to pay for the deposit on my half of a flat rental with my girlfriend at the time - so wish I'd kept the combo and got rid of the girlfriend instead Welcome, I'm not too far from Woking myself, as you've already seen from other responses, there appears to be a large Surrey contingent around here
Well, there's a great musical heritage around these parts - we'll be swapping Paul Weller stories next.....the best I can do is that I was in the same class as his cousin, played footie outside his house on the Maybury estate, and met the original Jam bass player (Steve someone...) in his music shop in Walton once....!
 7.
Only been in Addlestone a couple of months and in the area for about 6 years. I don't tend to do local shops much, Andertons a few times and Tony Nova. There was a little shop almost opposite the station that I kept meaning to pop in to but it disappeared last year some time. Apart from that it tends to be buy and sell on the forum. Once you pop you just can't stop!
All those years ago it just used to be ABC Music and Andertons (in its old shop, not the flash new one it has now) - a highlight after college was to drive in my mates old Escort to Addlestone just to stare in the windows and occasionally pluck up the courage to go inside - they knew we had no money and weren't very tolerant ! Maybury eh ? I went to Monument Hill school in Maybury.
 8.
Greetings from Addlestone, ex of Woking,Bisley and Maybury!!
Hi there - do you remember ABC music in Addlestone ? Whatever happened to it I wonder.... Cheers, Simon
 9.
Greetings from Knaphill You'll find Woking and the surrounding areas well represented here. I had a 76 P Bass in the same colour as your Mustang and I'm sure the colour was Mocha
Hi there, Mocha sounds good - exactly the sort of thing Fender seemed to come up with - thanks ! Cheers, Simon
 10.
Hello Simon from Bordon (15 snowy miles down the road). This is a great forum. Glad you found it. Did you keep the 76 Precision? if so, you qualify to join the 70s Precision club (president Water of Tyne, vice pres Clarky). The Mustang looks good too - lord knows what the colour's called. ATB Mick
Hi Mick - yes, pic attached along with some stranglers memorabilia and her sister jazz. I've a good mate in Haslemere and I don't think he's eaten for a week - is the snow really that bad there ?! All the best, Simon
 11. Hello and a happy new year to all, I found out about basschat only yesterday - it looks great so here I am as a total newcomer. I started playing bass back in 1980 (aged 14), inspired by the great JJ Burnel. Armed with some birthday / xmas / cleaning cars, windows, anything that moved money I bought a black '76 precision bass from Denny Laine's old music shop in weybridge (she sits behind me as I write - the bass that is, not Denny or the shop). After playing in bands with absolutely zero talent or success for the next 20 years, I finally gave in and just started admiring, collecting and annoying the hell out of my kids with all that 'horrible noise'. Yep, I still can't play like old JJ. Cheers to all, Simon PS. I have an immediate question which hopefully someone can help me with (if this post is in the wrong place, please accpet my apologies and I'll move it). I have a 70s Fender Mustang (hopefully pictured) and I don't know the correct name of the colour (I can't find it on any old fender colour charts) - I guess it could simply be 'brown' but that just sounds a bit boring for Fender ! I've removed the neck before and it doesn't appear to be a re-fin. Many thanks to anyone who can help.
