1. I'd stick with my Peavey T-40. None of my other basses get a look in anyway really
2. Do you want a lined or unlined fretless? Someone on here has a MIJ unlined fretless Jazz for sale, which I'd recommend (I have a slightly younger version of what's for sale).
3. Is there a reason for the extra holes in bassassin's scratchplate?
4. Blimey - that went for a fair few quid!
5. Picato 735s on my T-40 and Pyramid Golds on my fretless.
6. Dead Kennedys (but I'd have to get a tad better at bass) Terminal Cheesecake Tones On Tail (in fact, I still want to be in Tones On Tail...) Black Flag Barkmarket (first two albums)
7. I got mine from Hartnoll Guitars - ordered it on-line and it was delivered quickly, so would recommend them. They sell non-fugly ones. I think they're great basses for the prices and, as has been pointed out, easy to mod.
8. Thanks for the advice Eric - I think I'll have to have a lookaround for some luthiers. As for the weight of the T-40, I much prefer it to other basses. I find it more tiring to use lighter basses, because I tend to stoop. The T-40 forces me to have a better posture A good strap helps too - I have a Racer X from Couch which is very comfy and has no problems with the T-40's weight.
9. Weird - I have a Japanese Fender Jazz fretless and it's fine, as are my other basses. I've noticed that the atmosphere in my flat is a tad damper too, as it's Autumn and it's been raining alot. But everything's fine.
10. Well, it's not all a bed of roses - mine needs a refret. At least, a partial one. The first 4 frets are pretty ground down and buzz a tad too much. On a bass with less grunt to their pickups it probably would be a problem, of course The only thing is, I'm guessing a refret would affect it's value? Or is a refret better than clapped out frets in the long run? Mind you, apart from that the T-40 is still the perfect bass for me
11. There's a very nice sunbust lined fretless T-40 for sale here... Has Eric got one of these...?
12. The recent repeat of a BBC documentary on The Fall showed their long-term bass player (can't remember his name) playing a T-40...
13. I actually find alot of basses ugly as sin, often because they look too misshapen for my personal tastes. This is one reason why I don't like Wals. I also don't like alot of the pricier basses which are shaped a bit like Fenders, but aren't Fenders. Spikey metaller basses are also not my cup of tea. Alot of these rules also apply to geetars, mind you. A design that really works for me for both basses and guitars are box types.
14. Wow - nice bass Shaggy! I'm guessing fretless versions are somewhat rare...?
15. As I've said to Eric before, it looks like something Mr Spock would play I'd love to try one out.
16. I think FlatEric has one, so he may be able to say how much they usually sell for. Very nice bass!
17. Sounds like it's compressed quite alot...
18. Yep, it was very interesting! Thanks to all who set it up, thanks to Dan for giving me a lift, and thanks to various people who let me have a go on their kit
19. Something must be said for not knowing the 'rules', as such.

21. If you're really desperate I could give it a go - although I haven't played for nigh-on 20 years.
22. Argh - you swines You're right about the nasal tones of the Jazz fretless - that's the one thing I don't like about mine. I have to fiddle about too much to get the sound I like, which is something shy of a Pbass sound. One day I will own a black unlined fretless P with a dark wood board...
23.
i'd be surprised if even rosewood fingerboards will wear that much even with round wounds on. i think that potential problem is a little over stated? never noticed a problem with mine anyway.
It can happen, but it depends on what you play and how you play. And how careful you are. The fretless I rescued last year had bad striping on the board from round wound wear, which was a bit of a pain to get rid of. As for strings, I'd recommend Rotosound SM77s. If you opt for half-rounds, don't try Labellas as they're pretty awful - IMHO, of course
24. I'd rather it went to BC.
25. Will there be a fridge, or a cooler? I ask as it looks like it's going to be very hot weather on Sunday! Otherwise food may get a little worse for wear...
