Overdrive and compressor didn't do it for me at all. I now don't use a compressor and use an MXR Bass preamp and a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes overdrive and Boss TU3 tuner.

Cheesy but we always finish with the Beatles Let it Be which segues (which is when the thank you for coming/introduce the band etc is done) into the chorus of Hey Jude. Always goes down an absolute storm.

N(I)BD - Ibanez TMB35...and Aguilar AG5PJ-HC pickups aka TMDBAG35

How much do these weigh? Unfortunately that is always my first thought when eyeing up any new bass. -
I do love a StarBass - I've had both a Korean and a German one - both 5 strings - but now have a couple of Ibanez Artcore AGB205's, but I've seen a Korean StarBass 5 going for sale and can't make my mind up whether I should sell both Artcores and get the StarBass, or let GAS settle and stick with the Ibanez' (unfortunately I can't have both the Ibanez' and the Warwick). Someone help me decide.

I must say, looking at this thread, I am tempted. I've got two Ibanez AGB205's (the semi hollow F holed, short scaled ones) and play them more than my 2 Maruszczyk 34 inch scale Jake 5's. They are just more comfortable to play, and with different strings on each I can go from P thump to J growl. I could get two Talmans, sell the Maru's and have two great basses and have about £1500 in my bank account

Being 50% Austrian as well I totally agree. It's also not only German musicians who appear to be called 'krauts' by those who still hark back to the war (even when they are too young to have even been born then). Anyone with a 'middle European' accent appears to be grouped by this derogatory term (so the Austrians, Swiss and anyone else 'forin'). I do wish certain people in this country could be a bit more 'inclusive' and understanding of others from other backgrounds.

Welcome from Buxted in East Sussex. Root note player here with basses and amp far better than my ability

I've got two 5 string Jakes. One is extremely punchy, the other one is good but misses the punch. I've changed string types etc etc and it doesn't change. I think it's luck of the draw or something.

I have two 5 string Maruszczyk Jakes (a PJ and P/MM). One weighs 7.2lbs, the other 7.3lbs. So to get a 4 string version should be even lighter.

I had to buy the red one back. I stupidly part-exed it at the Gallery because I wasn't keen on the big poles on the Delano pickups and the Hipshop B style bridge (I prefer the A-style) but nothing I got since felt so comfortable. They all sounded great but these two basses feel like your comfy old slippers. The red one only weighs 3.29kg. The sunburst one 3.39kg. They are soooooo light in weight and, to me anyway, unlike the Precisions they are based on, just feel 'right'. Luckily it was still in the Gallery, so two basses plus a lot of money went back to them in exchange, but it's totally worth it.

Godin A5 - This is the 1st generation A5 without the synth access. This has a Lace Ultra Slim Acoustic pickup and volume control with a double jack plug so that you can have piezo or passive acoustic magnetic sounds. Almost new Warwick hard-soft case included. There are a couple of very small, what looks like finger nail, marks on the front but otherwise it's pretty much unmarked.

As much as I love it it's a bit too heavy for my neck - somewhere over 4kg according to my old stand on weighing machine (I need 3-3.5Kg basses). There are no dent's, scratches or knocks. It's a 2018 model and it's got a brand new fitted gigbag - bought last week. The upgrades are EMG DCX (instead of HZ) pickups and an 18v BTC preamp instead of the stock one (about £275 new)

Not getting rid of the Maru. Probably the best bass I've ever had (and I've had quite a few - everything from cheapos to custom shop and custom luthier made stuff and everything in between). We all know how GAS attacks and I'll probably regret it if I do get rid of it (and I know I won't manage to get another (affordable) one with all the upgrades it's had, so I'll probably keep it for the moment. As an aside, I've not ordered the scratchplate I was considering. I listened to the good people on here and decided they were right (plus, I wouldn't be able to sell it as easily if it had the screw holes in it.
