  1. Have you checked the wiring of the jack plug. The wires going from the points marked 'SW' and 'GND' switch the preamp on when a jack lead is inserted into the socket. You can unplug the battery, plug the jack cable into the bass then use your multimeter and measure the resistance between SW and GND, it should read zero ohs with the cable plugged in and open circuit when unplugged.
  2. Both the pickups and the preamp need battery power.
  3. Repaired quite a few of these. Just like in the EEV Blog video, you have to get rid of all the black glue/compound and then all the crackling goes away. Once its all gone check the legs of the components as some times they get corroded by the glue.
  4. Got one of these. I had a Dimarzio and a Schaller pickup lying around so I stuck them in there. Great bass for recording. The STB's weigh quite a bit though. Though the pickup routing is a bit wide it still has the jazz bass pickup shape so it looks quite nice without the pick guard on

  6. Justin, is a top bloke. The amplifiers were in good condition and fully working, just as advertised. Highly recommended. Many thanks
  7. +1 for the Roksak - plenty of room around the headstock
  8. Had one of these with a similar overheating fault. turned out to be the bridge rectifier and the two large capacitors on the power supply. IMO Hartke should have added two fuses on the two supply rails from the transformer feeding the amplifier section, as there is not enough protection for the transformer. I totally relies on the overheat protection and a single fuse on the mains input side - I added them myself
  9. Lol...a five string would be nice though. 8 string is a bit too far

  11. It may be an earth loop. Are you using the plastic cup washer thingies on the screws?
  12. I have a Brice six string with EMG 45 active pickups. Originally this bass had a 2 band preamp with volume and pan controls (4 pots). Now it is wired as Vol/Vol/Tone - leaving me with a spare hole. The EMG's sound fine as they are so I don't wish to add a preamp to it. I was wondering if it is possible to add a varitone switch to fill the other hole? Has anyone done this? And what capacitor values did you use?
  13. Subscribed! Hi Jack, just want to say thanks for these videos. The tracks are really useful to me for noodling and improvisation. Its great that you have created tracks spanning many genres. Keep up the good work
  14. He could of at least cleaned the toilet seat before taking the photos - its filthy

  17. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:198271] The missus says I have to many basses so I am selling my Yamaha TRB5 II - made in Japan. Fully working all original. I put some Warwick red label strings on about 2 months ago and never played it so these are like new. Bad points, there are a few normal wear and tear scuffs on the body the worst place is around the jack socket, this scuffs were there when I got the bass about 4 years ago, since then its been locked in a hard case, I have tried to show the scuffs in the pictures but if you want more detailed pics please PM me I gigged with it around 15 times. I'm not gigging any more so this has to go as it doesn't really get played. This is already on Ebay for £420 but I will accept offers from Basschatters as close to £400 as possible. Collection only
