1. I had a similar problem with a MIM Jazz a few months back and yes I was looking for that perfect reggae tone, I tried a few different pickups but and different flatwound strings and I came to the conclusion that the bass itself just didnt have the deep tones "in the wood" that I was looking for. Even with an Audere preamp I couldnt get the tone I wanted. Though it was one of the best feeling basses I have owned. I decided to end my quest and I put the Audere on an SX 5 string Jazz with some chromes and now I more or less have what I want. I think the MIM was just too bright sounding to begin with and nothing could change it. Try playing your MIA and MIM unplugged and listen/feel the vibrations in the body I bet you will notice a big difference
2. I would be interested in your old Westone pickups if you still have them
3. Andy sold me his Fender MIM Jazz Bass. Excellent bass - quick transaction. Top bloke. An asset to Basschat. Cheers Andy

5.
Just to make you aware I was on thomann.de and they are selling Lefty Warwick fortress rock basses for £240 doesnt matter if you buy a 4 or 5 fretless or fretted. All £240 in several different finishes. which as far as i can see is cheaper than the righty ones. Now everyone together: HAHAHAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA If i wasnt going to Japan next month id be ordering one. Only issue is they have that terrible rockbass logo. Not being a gear snob just thing the logo it tits. You can keep your Squier Jazzes I would be getting one of these.
I purchased one of those Rockbass fortresses and it went straight back. There was a 3mm gap either side of the neck pocket and the neck moved when you tuned it The preamp was dangling around loose in the control cavity. It came with a factory inspection tag on it stating that the action at the 12th fret was 2mm the action was actually 11mm and didnt respond very well to lowering the action - just caused major fret buzz. the frets were very uneven in terms of height. The neck needed like a 5mm shim to get it anywhere near close to being playable. and the strings it came with are designed with the sole purpose of shredding 6mm of skin off all your fingers. Thomann charge 30 euros for returns and then I ended up losing another £17 due to credit card exchange rate charges. But saying all that it felt just right in terms of weight and balance and the sound was awesome. It was the 5-string left handed model in honey finish - just so if you do buy one they dont send you the same one. Thomanns ordering process state that they inspect and setup every guitar before delivering it - yeah right!!! LOL
6. Thanks guys you saved my life, just got a B2A and pull the electronics cover off and two wires came off....all sorted now
7. I still have the 7 string very nice feel but I struggle to keep the strings muted....gotta keep practicing.
8. Yeah they are really solid guitars, the neck is really thin great for those with small hands. The adjustable nut is a nice feature. Quite a defined mid range sound in passive mode and lots of lows when u put it in active mode and turn up the bass. The older models didnt have a concentric volume/tone pot - this allows you roll off the highs in passive mode. I think if you add upp the parts that make up this bass it comes to about the asking price without including the body and neck.
9. Hi everyone, proud lefty here can I join the club? got a nice walnut 4 string on ebay at the moment feel free to take a look and bid CLICK HERE
10. I got one of these off ebay really cheap with a couple of paint blemishes which you couldnt really see as it is black. The pickups were awfull and the neck had to be shimmed but once I sorted this out it became the bass that I play the most.
11. I did this recently to an old cheapie bass. I liked the feel and playability of the bass but the pickups were really poor - loww output and no depth. So I got a routing jig made at a local enigneering firm (but you can buy them online from Stewmac) and routed out the holes. I also added some switches for series/parallel/split coil modes. It is still passive with a volume and a tone control for each pickup. You can get about 3.7 million different tones out of this thing. I only used inexpensive (£11 each from ebay) pickups in this bass as it was more of a trial to see if it would work but I might invest in some better quality pups now I know what it can do. 12. I use a Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro. It has all the EQ compression and amp simulation you need, it also allows you to use one putput as a dry DI signal and the other output equalized with amp simulation so you can record both signal simultaneously and mix them as required.
