1.
The concept of Buy British is about helping to create and retain jobs in the UK, not exporting them (and your technological know-how) to Asia.
They're a British company paying tax in the UK. If the company is more profitable by moving manufacturing to China then they're paying more tax back into our economy at home.
2. I'm not usually one for graphics on instruments, but that is really quite lovely.
3. When I were a lad acid jazz was all the rage. I used to look up to players like Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai and Andrew Levy of the Brand New Heavies, who at the time played Warwicks. I just thought they looked cool - much nicer than anything else. I still do, in most respects. Fenders don't interest me, I think Ricks look like the back end of a bus. Really the only other basses I like the look of are Stingrays (and maybe Bongos). So aged 16, I started saving up for a Warwick. I wanted a blue oiled Corvette (i.e. the least expensive model), but in the end got a great deal at the Bass Centre on a burgundy Fortress. The nu metal thing passed me by, but it's not the first bandwagon Warwick jumped on. There were riding on the back of Jamiroquai's success in the 90s too.
4.
I think your best bet for a new Warwick is Darren at the Bass Merchant. I think they sell the majority of new Warwick gear in the UK now.
I bought a Streamer from Bass Centre about 18 months ago, but it looks like even they have stopped dealing Warwick. The Bass Centre! Who'da thought it. And Bass Merchant appear to have 3 Warwick basses in stock. 3!
5.
PS - Jazz Bass is really nice as well. I take it this person likes their basses to look natural then?
As he's selling 'em, maybe not!
6. I recently acquired a Tascam DR07mk2 for other purposes, but have taken it along to band rehearsals for the last couple of weeks. I'm really impressed with it, and in particular how well it picks up my bass. The over all sound is clear and detailed, with good separation between instruments. The bass really does sound good on the recordings, and that was just dumping the recorder on top of my gig bag on the floor. Lovely bit of kit.
7. I was working in Nashville yesterday, and so had the day free today to kick about before my flight home tomorrow. Some folk mentioned there was a big Earth Day event going on in a local park, so I popped along. There on the main stage bill closing the show was Victor Wooten and Family. Result! Victor literally did have his family on stage with him. His daughters and wife were singing, one son was playing drums quite a bit, and his very young son also pitched in. It had a really great vibe for a family day in a park. Plus some great bass playing, naturally! I'm rather pleased I happened upon that. What a great way to spend a sunny afternoon, half way across the world. Drew.
8. I'll put you down for a purple one.
9. It's worth keeping in mind that not all breakdowns are as easy to fix as a broken string. Something like an electronics failure could take a while to properly diagnose at a workbench, never mind fix at a gig. A while back Warwick had a batch of dodgy tuning posts - tighten your string slightly and PING! the thing would snap. Not exactly easy to fix while the band fill. I've not played a gig important enough to warrant needing a spare in years. If I did, I'd certainly take one. Back to the original question, my main bass is a 5 string, so I'd ideally have a 5 string as backup. If something goes wrong and you need to swap, the last thing I'd want is to need to work extra hard to re-finger the parts whilst I'm already potentially a bit stressed by whatever's gone wrong. Fortunately, I think I could pick up a backup Warwick for about a fiver at the moment
10. I did Grade 8 back in 1997 I think. Not sure I could do it now! When do you find out the result?
11. When I started learning in the early 90s, for me it was all about Jamiroquai and Stuart Zender. 20 years later, here I am still playing Warwicks.
12. I just downloaded it after reading this thread. Using it with an iRig. It's great! The ability to play along to any music without importing makes all the difference. Sounds good to. Now I can make a playlist of all the tracks I need to learn and just work through them. Ace.
13. Welcome! (Berkshire also - Maidenhead)
14. I've fitted mine with a Badass II, a set of EMG pups, new strings, tuners and a Status graphite neck. Playing it, you'd never know it only cost 60 quid. I kid, I kid.
15. "I'm the real deal, so bid with confidence" Riiiight.
16.
I'm not just talking about rare exotica here too. One person I spoke to had just tried out a Vintage fretless and was raving about it, something he'd probably have walked straight past in a shop.
As I said, I tried out a Stingray after years of deciding I didn't care for them. Could go to almost any good bass shop and do the same, but in the last decade I've not done so. Now I think I may be GASing.
17. Yeah, it was far too noisy to buy a bass - and apart from the MusicMan stand, most basses were in booths so small you couldn't really see them anyway. That said, I played a Stingray for the first time in 14 years and I really liked it. Now I'm all confused.
18. My Sue Ryder. I don't care that they'll be worth a fortune in 10 years... this one's a keeper!
19. My F500 (same size) lives in the official Markbass bag. The good thing about the official bag is that it's really designed for the amp to live in, not just be transported in. The front and back flaps open to expose all the connections, and there's vent holes in the side for the fan to keep it cool in operation. I've never taken mine out of the bag. So it's a different proposition.
20.
He also made the comment that his "band were musicians" - yet still can`t play one song from start to finish - and the band I was in - that could play 70 songs from start to finish - were merely "entertainers".
Perish the thought that anyone be entertained! Music is very SERIOUS and under no circumstances must it be ENJOYED.
21.
Don't forget that if 90% of people are arseholes, then the figure is probably about 98% for"musicians".
The remaining 2% are bass players, right?
22. Great bass at a great price. The LX5 is a really punchy instrument - I love mine. Have a bump!
