1. Maple/Black/Black is my fave P combination - Nice !
2. Rumor is the landlord/lady from the Milestone (who left after New Year) are taking over the Railway ?? Let's hope so !! I think the 'witch' mentioned above is now at the Black Horse (?) near the Corn Exchange ??
3. Welcome from another Suffolk lad... Ipswich based ( and an ITFC supporter )
4. A quiet year on the gear front despite one of my best years for gig income. I'm pretty happy with my rig at the moment so most of my gig money was spent on lighting gear this year. In : Shure PSM200 In Ear Monitors Sennheiser Freeport Wireless 3U Rack Case for the above and Mark Bass LM II Fender P Bass Special A whole load of DMX lighting, DMX controller, winch up stands etc Out : Aphex Punch Line 6 AM4 Happy New Year to all Bass Chatters !
5. I have a tendency to walk/dance/hop round in circles (in the same direction) when I'm playing which always led to a twisted cable. I kept trying to compensate by going the other way when I remembered to but it never seemed to work so I've recently bought a Sennheiser freePort for £109 from iMuso to give me a bit more freedom. It's UHF, multi channel and has diversity which are the three things I wanted and so far no problems - I can go for a little wander whenever I feel that way inclined
6. I'm dragging my wife along to Level 42 next Weds at Ipswich Regent.
7. Another +1 for the mondeo estate. A great big boot, plenty wide enough for a hard bass case. The boot carpet can double as a drum mat in times of need too !
8. Hi, The mid control on my active P Bass Special has lost it's mid dent and gone rather loose - so much that it's getting knocked when I'm playing - and it can make a big difference to output volume not just tone. It's a CTS 49443 which I believe is 100K, I'm happy to replace it myself but I can't find a source for centre dented pots... any ideas ? Thanks Darren
9.
I used to own a Corvette $$;great sound,I even liked the neck! But two things made me sell it;the shear back bending weight of it(I have a long term lower back problem)and the Just-a-nut III which used to cut my left index finger!
I had the same problem with my Corvette cutting my finger. I replaced it with a new plastic (?) nut and haven't had any problems since.
10. Thanks for the comments folks. I'll start shopping around for a better deal starting with Allianz Cornhill and the MU. Cheers Darren PS. About a 1/3 of the cost for Musicguard is for the public liability, the quote from Allianz Cornhill is £83 but no Public Liability so they're about the same.
11. Hi, I'm just about to renew my policy with Musicguard for the 3rd year. Reading through the excemptions listed I'm not convinced the more likley scenarios where I would want to claim would be covered such items stolen whilst loading/unloading the car, damage from a drunken punter splling his pint down the back of my amp or someone knocking over the lighting stand etc I look after the band lighting so I'm more concerned with having public liability cover these days in case a loaded lighting stand ever fell over or, someone tripped over a DMX cable etc but I'm interested if anyone has tried to claim for any loss/damage to euipment and how they got on ? Musicguard want £145 for £3000 equipment cover, in car cover, £10K personal accident, £1M Public Liability, no excess. Thanks Darren
12. Hi, all these are hardly used from a P/J bass which never gets used so I have replaced with the original parts. All prices include recorded delivery. Chrome BadAss II as new, no grooves, including the 5 original screws £40 [SOLD, Posted 10/07] Seymour SPB-3 Quarter Pounder Pickups for P Bass, boxed with screws and rubber thingies. £35 [SOLD, Posted 10/07] Seymour SJB-1 Vintage Bridge Pickup for Jazz Bass, boxed with screws. £25 [SOLD, Posted 3/7] Artec 2 Band Active Preamp inc instructions, stereo jack socket and stacked chrome knob for the EQ. £10 [SOLD, Posted 3/7] Darren
13. I carry my whole rig in one trip from the car - much to the amusement of my fellow band members. A Traveller 15 cab in one hand, Little Mark in rack bag (inc tuner, cables etc) in other hand and my bass bag over shoulder. We play in a rock/pop covers band doing weddings, parties etc and I've not found the need for an extension cab even playing large halls.
14.
Love that Hot Rod P!
+1 Black, Black and Maple.... Nice !

16. Must be somewhere close as I'm in Kesgrave too. Shame I only had a new delivery last Friday otherwise I'd be tempted...
17.
Sh@t I play in a newish band in the said Ipswich called The Groove Room, we're not all toss@rs I assure u.....how bizzare!
I was refering to the few blues players left over the late 80's/early 90's, i.e the Mean Red Spiders era rather than all bands in Ipswich today (which lncludes me !) Apologies if this includes you, but the 'better than everyone else' attitude is my (and many others I know) perception of these guys
18. Ha Ha, I know this guy ! He plays with the Groove Doctors based in Ipswich. I have to say that without a doubt he can play, no question about that but what a jerk. He's part of a incestuous group of 'musos' that jump from band to band all the time trying to re-invent themselves but never coming up with anything new. Ipswich had a big blues scene about 15 years ago and these guys are the last of that (forgotten) generation of musicans.
19. A weekend of contrasts.... Friday night was a Charity gig with 250+ people all up for a good time. Big stage, PA and professional lighting etc but we all struggled to hear each other on stage. After working wednesday and thursday night I was running on empty by the second set and struggled to keep my concentration leading to a few silly mistakes. A great night out though and my wife brought a load of her mates along who loved it - Her 'street cred' has been greatly improved by having a husband in a rock band Saturday night was a surprise 30th Birthday party in a village hall in the middle of nowhere. We played well (better than Friday night) but everyone stayed put in the bar so we played the first set to four or five kids. As usual with these gigs everyone decided to start dancing a couple of songs before the end when they'd had a skinfull then wanted more. We had several people ask for contact details though so we can't of been bad and with £100 in your pocket at the end of the night it's better than staying in watching Casualty !!!
20. Soundslive are always good on price and I can't really fault them but.... I've ordered from them and then cancelled from them two or three times in the past due to never ending delivery times. Ps. I placed my first order with Thoman last Friday (a replacement nut for my Warwick) after reading good things on here about them and it turned up Wednesday - very impressive !
21. I won the Aphex Punch, looking forward to giving it a try
22.
I've gone and bought em again, I can't stop myself! Mind u saw em at Arundel Castle outdoors last Autumn and the were awesome, loud, enthusiastic, great weekend away, I guess the Regent at Ipswich wont be the same but, well. As my kids say, "all u need now dad is a Capri, youre a sad bass tard or something like that"
I've got my tickets for the Ipswich Regent too ! I've not seen them for about 7 or 8 years so really looking forward to this one. I dug out my Live At Wembly DVD on Saturday morning and spent the weekend humming along....
23. I always wear black, whether its just jeans and a t-shirt in a pub or something more formal for function, it's always black. With my current function band we've all got black polo shirts with the band logo embroidered on them. They look pretty professional and we've had plenty of positive comments about them... I did wear shorts for a few summer gigs a few years back but after looking at the photos decided I haven't got the knees for it !
