Yamaha BB415

Great review, thanks. I have a BB414 in the same pearl Orange, I still find the build quality v price astounding on this bass. Agree 100% with your comments regarding the pups, they are very hot mine is currently on flatwounds so you can imagine how the walls shake in my house!
3. I'm 99% sure this isn't a synth bass, I can hear string noises on some of the slides?
4. If you like slap and I do, I thought this was quite staggering...tucked away with only 200 odd views.
5. Being a rookie myself I found these two quite easy and great to mess about to...sssssssssssssssslides n pops galore, don't matter where it will sound good ...I seem to learn a fair bit when I p**sing about ..may not be ones you may hear too often. Dazz Band - Whip It Marvin Gaye - Got to Give it Up
6. this is great stuff, many thanks for the taking the time out to do this
7. Heard this last Saturday played by The Planks at the Banham Barrel and thought what a tune, got home and thought I'd give that a go....bash my balls I'm struggling it's seems so quick, maybe a tad too tough for a rookie like myself? ..if ya bored have a go and see what you think guys....I thought technical bass started in the 70's  but this guy is good....it's also very different from what I normally play. Any tips to make my pinkies faster? this ones live, but the bass seems a little different, but wow can this guy sing Tablature Return to Arthur Conley bass tabs Arthur Conley - Sweet Soul Music.txt Text tab - January 31st, 2007 Preview Sweet Soul Music.btab Arthur Conley TablEdited by Jan Bjorklund Tuning : E A D G Time Signature: 4/4 tempo 160 | | | | | | |--------------------------------|--------------------------------| |--------------------------------|--------------------------------| |--------------------------------|3-------------------------------| |----------------------------3---|----------------------------3---| | | | | | | | | |--------------------------------|--------------------------------| |--------------------------------|--------------------------------| |3-------------------------------|3-------------------------------| |----------------------------3---|----------------------------3---| | | | | | | |--------------------------------|----------------| |--------------------------------|----------------| |3-------------------------------|3---------------| |----------------------------3---|----------------| | | | | | | |----------------|--------------------5---7---5---| |----------------|------------6/--7---------------| |----------------|8-------------------------------| |----------------|--------------------------------| | | | | | | | | |--------------------5---7-------|--------------------------------| |------------6/--7-----------7---|--------------------5---7---7---| |8-------------------------------|------------6/--7---------------| |--------------------------------|8-------------------------------| | | | | | | | | |--------------------------------|--------------------5---7-------| |--------------------5---7-------|------------6/--7---------------| |------------6/--7-----------7---|8---------------------------5---| |8-------------------------------|--------------------------------| | | | | | | | | |--------------------------------|--------------------------------| |7---7-------5-------------------|----------------------------6---| |----------------------------6---|8---8---------------------------| |--------------------------------|------------8-------8-----------| | | | | | | | | |--------------------------------|--------------------5---7-------| |------------6-------------------|------------6/--7---------------| |----------------------------5---|8---------------------------5---| |8---8-----------8---8-----------|--------------------------------| | | | | | | | | |--------------------5---7-------|--------------------------------| |------------6/--7-----------7---|--------------------5---7---7---| |8-------------------------------|------------6/--7---------------| |--------------------------------|8-------------------------------| | | | | | | | | |--------------------------------|--------------------5---7-------| |--------------------5---7-------|------------6/--7---------------| |------------6/--7-----------6---|8---------------------------5---| |8-------------------------------|--------------------------------| | | | | | | | | |--------------------------------|--------------------------------| |7---7-------5-------------------|----------------------------6---| |----------------------------6---|8---8---------------------------| |--------------------------------|------------8-------8-----------|
8. cheers gent's for the well informed answers.
9. Love my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz to bits, but keep looking at the Classic Vibe Jazz's....I can remember telling the wife months ago there really wasn't any difference and that those CVJ's have a '60s jazz bass sound - whatever that is ? - and I'm more into funky 70's and 80's sort of stuff. ...she has a good memory and pointed this out over a beer in the pub last night.....Banham Barrel....great place for live music if you don't already know? ....so reasons on a postcard to: Mr Ivor Kneedfourwon Banham Norfolk 1VM 0CV
10. gentlemen, gentlemen, have we not forgotten the greatness of Wham!...well Deon Estus! and who can forget wham rap...all good fun to play....my kids like them! ....cool looking bass on this one....why do 80's bass's always look so long in the neck?
11. anyone else bought one yet gentlemen? cheers
12. We are buying a house this week, maybe, hopefully, but after 3 letdowns I can't get too excited, but we are most definately out of the house we are in at the moment this weekend! .....we have had to leave all our worldly goods scattered around the south east just in case all falls thru again, and this includes the basses and amp.....I then realised I haven't really had a proper week off from the them in over a year, I even took them trail riding to Wales for the evenings entertainment..how sad am I? I can tell you it's been a terrible experience...I find myself in bed with the IPod playing the basslines of my favorite tunes..... I gota say perfectly as well, never miss a note! .....what I should of done was a get a mini bass to play on, sorta like a bass banjo...4 string though...something small I could thwak around on..do they exist?
13. haven't got one yet...we are finally moving house this week after buying a probate house, been 6 months of hell...some free advice, they maybe cheaper but really it isn't worth the hassle if you like a quiet life...anyway StingRays ....I suggested I sell the VMJ and BB414 to fund the StingRay and get myself down to 1 bass, but my wife doesn't want me sell any of the basses...she isn't very happy that I sold my first RBX-374 and the red BB614, she actually like to see them around the house, something about nice looking furniture, guess I'm lucky like that
14. This maybe in the wrong section..if so please shift: I'm curious...whenever I read anything about playing a bass thru a home stereo, all I read is that it's a bad, bad idea.....but my stereo has a woofer the size of tea chest and can handle drum and bass with tone so low I can't hear it, but certainly feel it! Also, they have circuits that dish out the frequencies to the most suitable speaker. ..when I play this, I can feel my trouser legs fluttering....and a bass wont go this low? ....strangely, running a bass thru a home PC seems OK? So why is it a bad idea...apart from pissing off the neighbours
15. well, some different female frenchness... if you prefer the first too can be sexed up ...see Kate Ryan you could rest ya pint on the haircut ...isn't she married to Johnny Depp? AIR...french group...but sung by Beth Hirsch...great bassline and err..... St Etienne.....well it's a half decent french football team I'll get my coat!
16. I have used the Group III's for over a year on a few basses now and I gota say I love them...lovely smoooth feel, never seem to go out of tune either...and I can even slap with them!
17. Hi guys, no it's not one for sale, simply an example photo of what I would like.....actually the maple neck would be even better in my eye again, many thanks for the help
18. many thanks guys, great replies et al. ...this quiet G string thing, I'm getting into slap now and always thought these StingRays were a great funk bass...doesn't this weak G limit popping or is this not an issue I would notice again, many thanks?
19. I'm looking at secondhand StingRays and have whittled my wanted list down to the Trans Colours and No1 is the Trans Orange with the white pearl eliptical pickguard...but I don't really know too much too about the different types out there and don't want to buy a lemon, I normally only ever buy new. Can anyone give me a brief LadyBird Guide to Stingrays....only interested in 4 strings. What years am I restricted too for Trans colours...Are they all active? 2 and 3 EQ?....didn't '90's have issues with pre-amps or is this pub talk, are later ones better, what to look for in general? Are there thin necks/big necks, you know the usual. any help very welcome
20. I thought I have a go at Micro Kid L42, needs drop D....never done this tuning before. My Korg GA -30 tuner which can take sound or by direct input seems to struggle with drop D open string note? It seems to only like E or Low B and shoots past D to low B or back up to E when trying to twiddle my tuning peg. So I thought....what If I tune using using the 12th fret harmonic to D and, that it seems to like, no problem any ideas why this should be? many thanks
21.
I have Peter Wyngarde's solo album. It's................interesting.
really....indeed a man of many, err, erm talents....is this one on it?
22. Department S wasn't it?....didn't Mr King get caught with a lorry driver's 'load' in his hand, in a motorway service station? did they ever find Vic? ...that guy was always drinking as I remember, had interesting fashion sense, and drove a Jenson Interceptor...don't remember seeing any bass though?
23. Ok, you need to bear with me here, I can be a bit slow, I'm still learning a lot about bass..... ..........but just why is sustain one of THE benchmarks for a good bass, or bass review, or anything when mentioning a bass of any flavour? ....the only time I need any 'sustain' is when playing The Chinese Way...there is long open E string note during the bridge/chorus and even then it isn't a problem, apart from that song I'm usually struggling to play while muting all my ringadinging strings.... I have even read of guys putting foam over strings in their Jass bass ashtrays, I have an elastic band on the end of my neck....so I'm a little puzzled by the 'sustain' thing. ...or this an elephant in the room phalic thing, you know, long type car bonnet thing....my bass has oodles of sustaaaaaaaiiiiin
