1. again many thanks guys, ordered another set of Marvel Chromes....as one guy said, I can use the same strap across both guitars and ohh, no one slags Marvels off
2. youtube is amazing sometimes I have never seen this live....my Vauxhall Magnum 2300 Coupe always had this in the Harry Moss tapedeck in 1981/2...
3. The vender kindly mailed me the serial number of E1047713....this number has too many numbers to be a Fender if this list below is correct or the bargain of the century as US made /79/80/81 jazz bass and they made an aweful lot of them so neaded an extra number...I'm no Fender expert...or it's a Korean Squier from 1990 ish..I give up...but the headline describes it as 60's jazz bass.....!!! Serial Number on Peghead Decal. U.S. made Fenders, starting in mid-1976 has the serial number on the peghead. Note the following number could be off as much as two years. Generally speaking, a "S" prefix equals the 1970's, "E" prefix equals the 1980's, and "N" prefix equals the 1990's. Note "E" and "N" prefix models are sometimes also Japanese-made (see below). 7600000 ("76" in bold) = 1976-1977 800000s = 1979-1981 1000000 to 8000000 = 1976-1981 (7 digits) S100000's-S600000's = 1979-1982 S700000's to S770000's = 1977 S740000's to S800000's = 1978 S810000's to S870000's = 1979 S880000's to S980000's = 1980 S950000's to S990000's = 1981 E000000's to E100000's = 1979-1982 E200000's = 1982 E300000's to E310000's = 1983 E320000's to E390000's = 1984-1985 E400000's = 1984, 1985, 1987 E800000's = 1988-1989 E900000's = 1989-1990 N900000's = 1990 N000000's = 1990-1991 N100000's = 1991 N200000's = 1992 N300000's = 1993 N400000's = 1994 N500000's = 1995 N600000's = 1996 N700000's = 1997 N800000's = 1998 N900000's = 1999 Japanese Serial Numbers JV+ 5 digits 1982-1984 SQ + 5 digits 1983-1984 E + 6 digits 1984-1987 A + 6 digits 1985-1986 B + 6 digits 1985-1986 C + 6 digits 1985-1986 F + 6 digits 1986-1987 G + 6 digits 1987-1988 H + 6 digits 1988-1989 I + 6 digits 1989-1990 J + 6 digits 1989-1990 K + 6 digits 1990-1991 L + 6 digits 1991-1992 M + 6 digits 1992-1993 N + 6 digits 1993-1994 O + 6 digits 1993-1994 P + 6 digits 1993-1994 Q + 6 digits 1993-1994 S + 6 digits 1994-1995 T + 6 digits 1994-1995 U + 6 digits 1995-1996 N + 5 digits 1995-1996 V + 6 digits 1996-1997 Korean Squiers CN/VN: C = Cor-Tek (Cort), V = Saehan(Sunghan), S was already taken by Samick so Saehan(Sunghan) used V instead (Saehan(Sunghan) made the Vester guitars), N = Nineties (1990s), the first number following the serial number prefix is the year. For example "CN5" = made by Cor-Tek (Cort) in 1995. "VN5" = made by Saehan(Sunghan) in 1995. KC/KV: KC (Korean Cor-Tek (Cort)) and KV (Korean Saehan(Sunghan)), the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year. For example "KC97" = made by Cor-Tek (Cort) in 1997. "KV97" = made by Saehan(Sunghan) in 1997. KC and KV serial number prefixes are usually used on Crafted in Korea Squiers. S/E: The S and E serial number prefix Korean Squiers are from the late 1980s/early 1990s. S = Samick, E = Young Chang, E letter serial numbers were used on Young Chang's Fenix brand guitars [3]. The first number following the serial number prefix is the year. For example "S9" = made by Samick in 1989. "E0" = made by Sung-Eum in 1990. "E1" = made by Sung-Eum in 1991. There were also Korean Squier serials with no serial number prefix and 6 or 7 numbers and the first number is the year.
4. I would have thought it difficult to slap with a neck pup cover....I sometimes use the palm of my right hand to mute the E string...not sure if I should mind
5. I like Shalamar now, good fun sutff..didn't 25 odd years ago though! love this guys style..so effortless
6. Not wishing to sound like a plum but, well, what are these covers for, what was the original purpose? ...do they do anything for the tone, playablity....or are they more a bling item......and don't those pick up covers get in the way when playing? this sort of thing..be aware these are puka Korean made bridge covers, not Chinese tat.... 10. My brother is an award winning chef...go to his house for dinner you get egg and chips if ya lucky...very nice ones though! I sell cars for a living....my Corvette Stingray has had a set of badges sitting in the passenger footwell for well, must be 6 months and haven't been fitted yet... My painter has BMW with a ding in the rear 1/4 for must be 3 months... My mechanic has a 4x4 Truck with 2nd gear syncro' out of it for must be 3 years... My friend who manages the best loans and fianance for car's is always skint... ....do bass players who earn their living from bass playing, still mess about at home? I'm hoping bass breaks the norm...
11. My wife bought me a set of Marvel straplocks which are now on my VMJ and they work just fine...now I need some for my 414....is there anything else that I should consider out there? many thanks
12. I can't find one for my Yamaha.....don't want hash, cannabis, skulls or love heart straps just a simple Yamaha one....can anyone point me in the right direction...even Fleabay blanked!
13. Ahh, Imagination some puka tunes, what a great 1st album, but I never seem to see the bassist, Ashley Ingram, play anything but a fretless...although it always seem to sound very synthbass? Possibly one those guys who is a real talented guy blighted by Lyrca Campness...seems to play a lot of instruments..I can't play one!
14. came across this guy doing some Monkees stuff and thought a few of these were really great basslines, good fun to play...that guys Lakland has a great tone too
15. not so tough afterall...some real Fender anoraks here ....if it had been a Yamaha.....
16. how about some real slow grooving... don't get much sombre than this but with some great riffs from the great man himself
17. not so much funk, more funky hiphop but so very simple and quite infectious....
18. great fun to play....and the kids will know it too but what is the bass....looks like a 70's Fender head & pickguard with a sort of sexy ARIA SB-1000 dual striped body
19.
Yeah the pickups on the bb414 are so powerful it's a great bass. I was planning on buying a new one, another yamaha but one of the rbx series just as a backup but, with the quality of the bb414, I think I might just upgrade it's hardware and leave it at that. Badass 2 methinks
I can recommend the RBX-374 4 string active...cheap but certainly not nasty....great ergo's and usual yammy build, very hot dual humbuckers and with flatties onboard what a wonderful tone...I miss mine already
20. hmm, not sure about the natural 424 head, I prefer the matching top 'n tail...sorta makes it more retro/old skool
21. Well, not one to hang around, the 614 is going to a new home already and I bought a new Orange 414 an hour ago....can't believe the difference in volume from these passive pups they are sooooo hot.....now I have to wind the volume down from playing the VMJ! ....my 414 has a warmer sound and far easier to control tone wise than the 416 but same wonderful playing ergo's....I'm sorted for life now ohh, the metallic orange is achingly beautiful too  there is an 414 X model out now...has a pickguard and only in white from what I have heard, didn't know about the 424?
