3. I think you could take a leaf outa Bootsy's book, keep it simple...
4. pretty bass, never seen CVP in bright red with white guard before..is that a refin'?
5. Walk on the wild side.....?!? Actually i would have john taylor over jaco and james too...awaits death by flamin' at the stake!*
6.
+1 Great sound
amplug for me too.....works fine.
7. ....regretably quite a few Gary Glitter numbers...Rock & Roll, Didn't know I love'd Ya, Do You Wanna Touch
8. Plus another on stingray necks needing tweaking more often than some
9. This caught my eye as it's a lovely colour! .....doesn't seem very "original 1970's vintage american Fender bass" to my eyes? So what was it/is it? description sorta says.....it may/may not have started as a fretless, the body has been fitted with an additional jazz pup of non-matching colour http://www.ebay.co.u...2#ht_453wt_1330
10.
Have you tried fitting both 0.1 AND 0.47 caps with a change over switch? Maybe you could use a push-pull switch on a pot? Maybe the difference would be greater if the switch placed the .047 in parallel to the 0.1, so giving a total of .57? Would the human ear actually detect a difference?
in parallel would give .147uf wouldn't it..but I know what you mean I did think of that, by swtiching between the 'std/typical' .047uf and the .1 uf via a push/pull.....ordered two 250k pot to keep things tidy now I did think my first Westfield p bass had a fantastic slap tone..I know why now, but I've got jazzers for the slappy stuff, P's should be felt not heard
11. Cheers for the offer ....ive got 10 off .1uf coming now in post so i will have few left over too, should anyone else fancy a dub stylee p bass! Question: Hmm should i have matched value pots....i will end up with 500 vol and 250 tone? Would both pots at 250k be even darker? Ps...thanks for snake oil tip....i was guessing a cap is a cap is a cap! Pps....it seems cheaper asian basses come with 500 pots from what i read...I wonder why?
12. I've just been poking around under one of my Westfield B1000 p bass's and this is what I've found:- volume B500K log' pot' tone A500k linear pot' .047uf tone cap' now I'm too clused up on bass electronics but I'm guessing it's the B500 linear pot' that makes these bass's so bright with the tone open, isn't 250K normal for humbucker P bass pups? I'm got a mind to fit a B250 linear pot to take some of the highs off and go wild with a .1uf for that real deep motown sound....I read that 50's P bass's came with .1uf caps...this could be internet crap though anyone who knows more about these things care to comment. PS strange how ceramic cap pricing works...fleabay has caps for £2.99 each from one supplier, $25 stateside and lots have them at 50 off for .99p!....a cap' isn't doing much in a bass is it, so why the pricing difference?
13. Just had 6 days off.....struggling with america you can do magic.....my playing certainly not at all magical today!
14. Condition.?..any more pics...? thanks
15. I thought the lack of stuff around was just me, I love to window shop (and buy!) bass's are a quite addictive in the way we want to try them all! I personally feel sure (for what my opinion is worth it usually isn't worth much) that if a straw poll was taken, it's simply down to the 'fee to sell', what a load of sad sacks we maybe. BC market place has changed from a 'free to sell source', to a 'fee to sell source'. I believe being free was why this site's for 'sale section' was such a draw in the first place, charging is reasonable but humans can be so unreasonable...I know I can be.....cue song...good bassline too I wonder if that that olde stylee 'free for sale' section may also of been a good source for drawing in new members, whom then went on to become to be active members & posters and then sellers/buyers? I really hope that the current for sale bass blip is temporary as this IS BY FAR the best bass forum I've come across, period, as they say across the pond. Obviously money is needed to run this site & the 'for sale' section is a way to generate this revenue method, so it needs to work?
16. That is a good looking bass.....love the yellowy stain on the neck. ...anything make them special than the std vintage p?
17. Ok, this is good cheers guys .....the bit about this "no it doesnt its because the speaker is by my knees" bit is a tad confusing and yes ive seen close mic'd speakers for recording but ...if i kneel down close to the speaker and inch backwards down my room i do hear a difference and then seem to hit a sweetspot that doesnt seem to change the further back i go within reason, my cables 15m ..... hope the neighbours arent watching this!?! this is with my 1x15".....i'll try it with my 2x10" tomorrow and see if distance changes?
18.
I thought i knew what loud was 'til i got on the rail at a Motorhead gig. That is not a safe place for a Fred Perry-wearing indie kid.
I thought I knew what was loud until my first 'DJ Froggy' (RIP) moment when I really in to jazzfunk - for those of a younger age this will mean bugger all as would Radio London and Robbie Vincent on a Saturday - ....Froggies opening track at that night, thru his own rig was this Young and Company classic....& Buddy Hankerson's bassline made me think I had eaten something that had erm 'disagreed' with me, it hit my guts that much Allegedly there were 2500 watts pumping out that night in a room where 300 odd people were crushed together (his bgig rig wss 12000 watts!)....it was so loud I'm sure I could of sued for ear damage nowadays, my ears rung like tuning forks for days after that night. 19. I'm not stupid, many may argue that statement but I've got letters behind my name should I choose to use them (I think and they don't all end in T?) I'm a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers don't ya know.....which means I can go and sit in the library at Birdcage Walk should I take the fancy but.... .....near field, far field, 'inside the wavelength'....it's all very conflicting, the fact remains it does sound better a few feet away than in front of the speaker.....but can anyone explain the reasoning, in simple speak to a dumbass like myself.....acoustics wasn't on the sylabus at college for a mech' eng'. thanks in advance.
20.
Hmm, I don't know about that. The current mrs discreet's arse includes at least three postcodes and has its own weather system.
mine's got it's own micro-climate...andddd Immm tyyypppingg tttthis fast coossss sheeees comiing iiinnn the dddoooorrr noww...annnddddd......post!
21. ....wasn't she on HOW! for a while and I do remember her being on Jim'l Fix It wearing leather thigh high boots, the Fix It kid couldn't take his peepers off Carol where as Jim couldn't take his off, well you know the rest.... ....and yes jazzers are heavier because they are......bigger in the body. ....but the smaller in the neck....so according to Einstein's theory of preservation.....
22. The latest cheap as chips or shoudn't that be 'cheap as the batter bits bit they give you at the chippy what with chips costing £1.50 a portion' bass into the house hold, plays great, sounds great, looks erm, interesting whats not to like.....and I couldn't see myself Peppa Pig'in up my old Fender or letting a 2 year old strum away on it...total cost £46.99 delivered. She's not too bad.....I just wish she used two fingers rather than JJ 'hook' technique
