I heard this on the radio a while back and thought, what a great excuse to buy a 5 string, the bassline sounded so smooth, thick and creamy... I heard the original by France Gaul (?) on holiday in Ibiza, ahh, takes me back...the long highlights and curly perms, skin tight shorts, airtex tops & that was just me & then promptly forgot about it all....until I found this video this afternoon. Now, I don't really think it's 'live' per se, more a filmed 'performance' then audio dubbed after? I think I can see the keyboards in time with the bassline, I could be wrong though, but not knowing jack about synths, is the bassline synth' derived or done with a proper bass? Nothing really happens until 1:24 in. Whatever quite a good workout on a bass, quite a few chords kicking around in this song to play over.
Make him take this: http://en.sommer-sommer.com/braintest/ Won't necessarily solve any problems, but it'll keep him entertained for a minute or two! (I thought I was quite distinctly left-handed, but it's just told me I use both sides of my brain equally)
I'm almost equal...but then I do some thing right...some left and my family has a history of being ambidextrous...good test! -
Yup love those bb424's looks....got to be the X model though for me too.
I used a Peavey TNT 115 for years before I went onto Trace gear. Cheap as chips and built really well! Just the job I'd say.
+1....mine is so well built could double as a workbench. i also have an ashdown eb180 which is good but cant compete with that 15" black widow!
The guy responsible for new Fender strings lineup development posted on Talkbass. They are definitely made by D'addario but the specs came from him personnally (Fender).
never saw that post....the last one i saw fender has built a new factory for string production! Thats the tb for you.

Funny thing taste...i currently own a vmj ( my 2nd) i've owned a vmtb, a vmjf and loved them all. i also own a cvj which is great too...but maybe lacking a little sparkle or something i cant put my finger on. truth is all those squiers are cracking basses.
I,ve got a status neck custom jazz bass ....... Feel wise the D shaped Status neck is very slick ,very fast and sounds great acoustically. sound wise I'd agree with Karlfer , you can get pretty much any sound you want If youve got a decent amp , I get loads of sustain from my Bass but thats down to the very heavy bubinga/ebony body rather than the neck...... They're not to everyones taste so Id definatley advise trying before you buy. Fitting wise my guitar tech said it was the first graphite neck he'd worked with but said it was very easy to fit...
That is quite simply a jaw droppingly beautiful bass!!

My yamaha rbx4 a2 sustains like a church bell and could be described as ply construction...hardwood outer softwood inner....hard and soft as in hardness not if the tree drops leaves! any rosewood n maple neck is a ply construction isnt it.

I quite fancy one of these now discontinued bass's. i notice there seems to be a few different flavors....black and mirror scratchplates, pewter with matching headstock etc, some with p bass special on the head stock and with squier precision bass et al. are there also affinity and squier standard models. i like the idea of comfy p body and jazz neck ,with p and j pups. Anyone know anything about them? cheers

Bit of bog reading bumpf....No.2 is interesting to me as Tony was a friend of my fathers, I used to drool over his cars when he popped over when I young 'un! Surprisingly few boutique bass in there, with most being mass produced fodder. vintage tone debate 1006: is there a OE vintage string still produced?
iconic replied to iconic's topic in Bass Guitars
Interesting thanks for the reply, I always thought Rotosound invented the roundwound, I never knew rounds were around in the 50's . 1/ What gauges are they out of interest? 2/ These Fender strings you have, do they have made by Squier (Squire) anywhere on the pack per chance? -
Ok, what strings were being used back in the day and can they still bought new today..... otherwise its all cork sniffing isn't it from my laymans view? Theres oodles of threads on strings effecting tone even that flats dont all sound the same....I know it was all flats back then and but i'm guessing there wasn't much choice around? cheers PS OE Original Equipment
