Hi and Lo inputs on amps- what's the actual difference
Conan replied to Lord Sausage's topic in Amps and Cabs
Does anyone actually use the 'Lo' socket? I think every amp I've owned over the last 35 years has had a 'lo' socket and I've never bothered with it.
You've never owned a Spector, have you? -
If you don't like the sound and don't want to carry 2 cabs, your options are pretty limited.
Nail hit firmly on the head there!

Having played and owned a number of Fenders and Squiers, I would be unwilling to fully commit to either exclusively, and neither do I see the point. There are good and not-so-good in both stables. Play 'em all and buy the one(s) you like best I say!
-
Not sure about the other options, but I would just like to add how happy I am with my J&D J bass. Every time I play it I have to keep reminding myself how cheap it was... Sure, there are one or two minor niggles - but you'll get that on a bass that costs five times as much! Go for it, I say!

To the OP: Great review! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us But.... as this thread title mentions the dreaded word "Barefaced" - lots of other issues raise their heads! Not only that, but the old chestnut about TC and their "liberal" power ratings... Once again to the OP: Many of us old crusties on here have spent decades in our quest to find the ultimate in amplification, never mind the relatively recent phenomenon of the "one-cab-solution"!! You have embarked on a long and interesting journey - one fraught with euphoria, frustration and depression in equal measures. You will grow as a person while on that journey, but (and this may be news to some) you may never reach your destination... Still, as Swing Out Sister once sang - "It's better to travel". Good luck on your quest young one!
These are great amps. I've had mine for 4 years now & have never had the inclination to change it. The quality sound, bullet proof build & the simplicity of the controls just do it for me! I run mine into a single 8ohm cab & have never had the volume control above 6. GLWTS.
Thanks They are indeed great amps, and offer fantastic bang-for-buck (as I believe the saying goes...)! If I had a bit more disposable income (or played paying gigs more regularly), I would happily keep this amp as a spare/backup. But I really need a bit more mid-range control and can't afford to own two amps... I suspect I would miss this amp though...
Hi there, I quite like the look of your LH500, just wondered if there's any way to run it straight into a single 4ohm cab? Thanks.
Indeed there is! I know what you mean though, as the speaker output sockets on the back imply that you can only connect 8 ohm cabs... not sure why it says that? I have run it through the following Barefaced cabs to excellent effect: Vintage (4 ohms), Compact (8 ohms) and (currently) Big One (6 ohms). It has also driven two Ashdown 410s (8 ohms each, but daisy-chained together to present the amp with a 4 ohm load), and an 8 ohm TKS H115 (by itself and in combination with the BF Compact). None of these cabs or combinations has given anything but oodles of power, clarity and volume!
Mum has one of the Marshall "hand built" 2 x 12 Marshall cabs and Dad has quite a few Marshall 4 x 12s.
I think it's probably fair to say that you have the coolest family of any BC member!

Pics as promised.... After looking at the pics I spotted one small scrape on the front left handle on the amp itself. I could have coloured it in with a black pen or some paint, but I'd rather any potential buyer could see it. I'm just honest like that...
...photos are always a Good Idea. Just sayin'.
Yes, I am aware of that - but as the seller is a long-established member with plenty of positive BC feedback, the necessity for pics is significantly reduced IMO/IME. YMMV of course...
I bought it brand new a couple of months ago, and as such it is in absolutely mint condition, with all original packaging, manuals, gumpf etc.

love to see some picture thanks
If it is pretty much brand new, are pictures absolutely necessary?
What that black square next to the power on switch ?

Dust filter
Indeed. And it must be pretty efficient as this is one of the most dust-free amps I have ever owned...
What sort of price does a decent respray / rework like that go for?
The guitarist in my band just has his Fender Jaguar refinished in Surf Green with matching headstock and a replacement decal. Because he specced nitrocellulose (which is apparently a bugger to work with and more expensive to buy) the job came to £120 - which seems very reasonable to me! I can provide details if anyone is interested - but bear in mind he is based in North East England...
Looks like Christmas has started early for you this year
Indeed! And that bass can double as one of your Christmas decorations too!
-
This would suggest that Mark either felt it wrong to put the logo on or he was told not to put the logo on , so whether snide, fake or not , it would appear putting a fender logo on a non Fender guitar isn't quite right .
Not necessarily. He still offers basses with Fender logos as an option, I believe.
-
Where nobody has disagreed with me is that Fender have brought this on themselves, they are losing customer loyalty and making the wrong products at the wrong prices.
Broadly, yes. But they also still do some good instruments at very competitive prices. The problem is being able to find them amid a vast and confusing range...

Wow! Just..... wow! Do you plan to wear the Iron Man costume when you play it?
I just need to widening a little bit.
I would be careful, unless you intend to stick with these particular strings on this bass from now on...
-
Would widening the nut slot cause a problem if one were to go back to strings of a lesser gauge?
-
I can imagine what being trapped in a lift at Smooth FM must be like now.
Being a purist about a particular genre can be very satisfying in a way - but expecting others to share the exact same interpretation of that genre will ultimately lead to frustration and disappointment.... Just an observation
Im going for a carvin xb75p.
Yay! Good to know that my old bass is heading back to the North East!
You're welcome to give mine a run out if you like, just to get another opinion on it...
I've seen the state of that bass mate - I'd probably catch something from it!
