1. have a laney RB3 which is in the same series as that RB1 you just linked... the rb3 is a decent amplifier so i can recommend the RB series.
2.
The Ibanez SR300 sounds good.
I can recommend these, as i own one and i really like it. I can't compare it to the GSR though as i've never played one.
3.
Infact, I might go for the one up from the GSR190, the GSR200. Any recommendations on cheap, good amps? Also, I'm a complete noob. - Is it possible to plug headphones straight into your guitar with a special screw on connector for the headphone lead? .. Or something? Or maybe plug into laptop to play through speakers?
cheap amps... well that depends. If you're going to be using it at home only, and you don't want it to be particularly loud, there are lots of cheap practice amps on the market. However, if you want something a bit beefier there is always a bargain to be had on here (safer than ebay because you know you're buying from a like minded person.) It all depends on what you mean by 'cheap' really! good luck
4.
But I don't want like.. something AMAZING. I'm not even sure I'll get into it properly yet. I don't own a guitar. I just want something that sounds good, plays good funk, and preferably with a thin fretboard/really good action to make frets easy as my hands arent the biggest in the world. Also, I kinda have an OCD thing about buying used products. Please try and recommend and share your first guitars, but under £200. Maybe over if the amp comes with it etc.
I'd reccomend the ibanez, then. But i'll always agree with the basschat for sale section !
5. Well they are all very good quality starter packs! I haven't experienced the peavey or the squier so i can't give an opinion really. Have fun playing bass... and yeah i'm a fellow flea fan
6. Hey, welcome. 'Tis certainly a laugh round these parts...
7. I recommend higher ground by the chillis, it's where i started with my slap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eokQdFPNDM0...=1&index=47

10.
Ibanez SR300
A fantastic bit of kit for the price... I've just bought one and i really like it...
11. Well, i've had enough of my current bass teacher... as he is only really a teacher to beginner bassists and i am at the point now where i learn nothing from him. I've been playing for 4 - 5 months (ish!) and am now looking for a new teacher. I like to play funk, rock, alternative etc etc and am very keen to learn more and enjoy bass as much as possible. So yeah, i'm situated in alton, hampshire, 16 years old (af it makes a differene!) PM me if you are avaliable!
12. Thanks for the reply's guys, that website is very helpful and i will check out that book too!
13. Well I'm 15 so i count as a teenager. been playing for about 5 months, i got a second hand practice bass and 10W, both made by benson, from ebay. I upgraded to a 65 (60?) Watt Laney RB3 earlier this year, but still have my 'beginner' bass. I'm 16 in may, and I'm hoping to get a new bass... Ibanez SR300M  http://www.ibanez.com/BassGuitars/model-SR300M
14. I don't even know if this is the right section, but it's about bass so i can't really go wrong i 'spose... I'm looking to get myself a book with tab/sheet music of lots of different scales, just as a sort of reference as i know i should really be learning as many as i can. I just searched on amazon and there's quite a selection, so i was wondering if you guys could suggest any you think are more worth the investing in than others than others? tah in advance

hey

Welcome to the forum. I'm still using my 'crappy' bass
16.
When people say stuff like, i'd rather throw it away instead, why don't they just selll at a price that people can't refuse. Surely even getting 20 quid is better than nothing? lol
I'd certainly take it off his hands for that
17.
A woman and her daughter came into the shop a couple of days ago to buy an acoustic guitar. To cut a long story short, I knocked down the price of the guitar from £380 to £250 to match her budget (we had a special deal from the supplier), knocked £10 off a case, and threw in strap, lead and picks for free. She asked if I would put new strings on, as the guitar had been played by the general public. I did this for her. I got an email today saying she wasn't happy with the sound, as it was now 'clangy' and didn't sound like it did with the original strings. She also said she had found out that the original strings were D'Addario and demanded I re-fit those strings instead of the Rotosound I used. I politely informed her that any new strings would probably sound 'clangy' compared to the previous ones fitted, and that as I had already given her a massive discount and thrown in freebies, I could not give her another set of free strings. I'm waiting to hear from her. She probably won't be happy. Some days you just can't win.
Some people are never happy. Things like that really get on my nerves! Especially after you gave her such a good deal.
18. Personally I don't see what's so bad about it? It actually looks quite nice as far as i'm concerned... It's not exactly the best looking bass I've ever seen but I have seen much worse!
19.
lol...what with the huge holes in it?
hmm... something like that
20. It certainly is interesting, but personally I'm not a big fan of it... It looks a bit lacking to me
21. My only experience so far with a music shop... I went into the local guitar shop (i'm quite lucky, turns out they are the biggest specialist guitar shop in england.) They don't have a very big bass section, a few ibanez's, some fenders and some squires, and the odd epiphone or esp. it's only a small corner of the shop. nevertheless, i went in telling them i wanted to try an amp, and knew they had it in stock. they immediately went to find me an instrument cable after telling them mine was on the blink, although they made little effort to actually sell me the amp... probably because i had already said i was interested in buying it. All with some added banter from an employee, and a new cable thrown in for free.
22.
Get the singer you auditioned back in, get another guitar player (if needs be), hey presto brand new band with no fannies!
Pretty much sums up what i was going to say!
23. It's really quite bad. I always have the 'View new posts' window open.. it's literally open whenever the laptop is on. which is a lot. but i only check up every... 10 minutes or so . I should really cut down.
