1. On my quest to find the ideal flatwound for my Epiphone rivoli i have got these two sets to offer:- 1) Picato Flat Wound 45-105. These werent on long. I use these on my P bass but a little to dark for a single humbucker bass (unoless you like dark of course). 2 hours play 2) D'Addario Halfrounds - 40-100 (i think). These were the closest i got to 'perfect'. Initially bright they soon settled down to a nice smooth thump whilst retaining a little bite. Only thing i didnt like was the small gauge. 10 hours play - Still have box Both cut for a 2+2 headstock. £12.50 each includes postage to UK
2. Ill go second on the list if the above sale falls through
3. Are these flats or rounds? If flats then ill take a set
4. I bought a black PB70 from this very dealer. He was VERY good. Its the first time id ever shipped a bass before and had some trepidation but the seller really was brilliant
5. If i can flog my Hartke AK410 i may be in touch about the cab. Its been for sale a while tho and no bites
6. All gone. Thanks
7. Hartke LH500 in live-in Warwick Rockcase flightcase. Still have original box, packaging and manual. Has lived in the flightcase all its life so immaculate (case itself is immaculate too!. Switched the original Sovtek valve for a longplate JJ ECC83 which really warms up the sound and gives a nice growl when pushed (will supply the original too). I run this amp with the Harke AK4x10 and it sounds brilliant with my flats loaded P bass. Im a big hartke fan and this amp replaced my HA5500. Sound Only reason im selling is I have a chance at a big old 200w valve amp and im like a moth to light when I see vintagey things with glowing valves J Collection only from Bolton please but can deliver/meet half way within reasonable distance. No trades im afraid, the mrs would de-nad me. Pics will follow when im not on works computer but trials more than welcome with your own bass/cab or mine
8. Their bass players SVT was in my amp techs a few weeks ago when i was dropping off my WEM
9. It wasnt so much volume i struggled with its just the SC broke up into a valvey mushness way too quickly, even with tinkered pre amp valve swaps. I think the active EQ didnt help on those 120's
10. Decided i want to get my main rig back to an all valve effort. Seen one of these Bugera's on thommans b-stock list and was wondering if anyone had tried them at all? Few google searches seem to show people really rate them as a bass amp but my concern would be clean headroom - dont want it to break-up TOO early. So far my valve 'want' list is Sound City 200 or 150 (ive had the 120 and whilst it didnt have the balls at bigger volumes the tone was amazing) but this Bugera seems fairly cheap and so far fairly decent reveiws. Any thoughts (other than the obligatory ''you do know this is behringer and will catch fire yadayada'')
11. Damn you and your local, very reasonably priced valve head whilst im skint and fully Hartke'd up!
12. So tempted and youre local. Need a bit more time with my LH500 to see
13. My only ever issue with the numeorus Ashdown's ive used is not the tone (yes its more 'vintage' sounding than most but not necessary muddy) its the claimed power. Ive used everything from a MkI MAG 300 head with 410 and 115 cabs, Spyder 330 head with 410 4ohm cab, 2x10 MAG combo, 300 ABM head etc etc and all have seemed way under powered. As a comparison - my old Hartke ha3500 head through a MAG 410 cab was MILES louder than both an ABM 500 and a MAG 600
14. Sold to the bloke int local (Lefty)
15. Another Bolton boy, welcome
16. Brand new in box & unopened set of Fender 9050M Flats. Heavy(ish) guage in 55 – 105 but IMHO the best flats. Start off a little zingy from the pack but settle down to a nice pillowy thump quickly. What I like about these is that all the strings age consistently i.e you don’t get a twangy G and D with dead sounding E and A. Reasonably high tension but then I like that. £15 posted to UK (paypal gift preferred)
17. Ashdown Little Bastard and 1x12 cab?
18. How expensive have valve amp techs gone recently! The last time I used one was around 2 years ago when a full service of my Sound City 120 including 4 EL34’s, few solder points, new jack socket and a few caps replaced was £160 with renowned local tech Dave Lunt. However, trying to get some prices for my WEM Dominator to have a re-cap, new power valves (which I already have and will supply) and a general service and the few ive had back say their standard charge for a service is £100-£130 and im not sure that even includes parts!!!! The amp works fine despite its tatty appearance but is a bit crackly. Given its from 1963 – and im pretty sure all original – id like new power valves for peace of mind (plus the spares I have are a tested and match pair of Brimars vs the current no-name ones) and caps so I don’t have one ‘blow its load’ all over my innards (oooooh matron!) Am I just being a bit of a skin-flint or should I rightly be a bit shocked? So far ive contacted 3 local techs (one of which is apparently no longer that local), should I keep looking o just accept that to whack 2 new valves in, caps and a service is going to cost me probably about what the amp is worth?
19. its all i had in me parts box. Ive ordered some similar looking ones from Maplin that shoudl arrive soon
20. Cheers for the replies. Went down with my P bass on saturday to try it out. It is VERY tatty with about 50 years worth of dust on both the outside and inside. Anyway, it still works find if a little crackly. Think this is the bass version - whilst it dosent say ''bass'' anywhere on it it is loaded with the 15" celestion as VtypeV4 mentioned. Sounds lovely when driven and came with a Mullard ECC83 and 2 x ECL82 power valves (aparentrly they are half power/half pre). Did some haggling and he took my old Hartke 15w combo and £50 for the amp. Will post picks once i get it cleaned up and stick some spare chickenheads on it.
21. No. Mines like new which actually annoys me, i really want the arm contour to wear a little bit. I think they look amazing with a little wood visible on the arm contour but then im just wierd like that
22. I dont think this one is the bass version. Will find out tomorrow
