  1. Is that the pirate thing based around the opensourced software? be very interested in your thoughts on that,. Rob
  2. Good advice. Thanks Rob
  3. Hi Chris I join the ranks of cab builders with great trepidation as any building that uses high speed rotating metal, scares me and whats left of my fingers. I definitely do not have better ears than you, I used to be a diving instructor (Jacques Cousteau rather than Tom Daley) and my ears are not in good shape TBH. I'll put some simple braces in and leave it at that. I'm not a weight weenie, so having wadding or not is not an issue, but I favour simplicity over complexity. I'm also making a spray cabinet so will use the spray cabinet to learn how to do things before I do this one. The cost of 2.4m x 1.2m 12mm plywood is circa £23 where I live, so I can get a spray cabinet and three 8" cabs out of one sheet. Thanks Rob
  4. Phil Thanks very much for the comprehensive reply. I actually understand it an awful lot better now. Is there any disadvantage in more than one brace in the same direction? or using a sheet of plywood with holes as somebody else posted earlier in the thread? Or does this introduce all sorts of unknowns and a simple brace is better? Simplicity is best? Thanks Rob
  5. Darn it. Missed that one. Good one
  6. Hi Just about to order the parts for this. After reading the thread again, I'm still unsure if horizontal and/or vertical bracing is needed here and also if wadding is needed. As this is my very first cab, and quite possibly the most complicated woodwork project I've ever done*, I'm stressing over the details here 😄 so baby talk to help me is acceptable. Thanks Rob * The next most complicated woodwork project was a paper knife made in my 1st year of secondary school. My mum still has it but has never ever used it.
  7. So did I. I assume Gibson brings it's own domain and the rest is Shopify under the covers. If Shopify can provide all of that for a price less than rolling your own, good for Shopify. Rob
  8. Darn it, Luke is quicker than me I hate CSS styling. Why would Fender use Shopify for anything, they have a proper website and team they can use. Rob
  9. Tut. You should be really waiting for Exclusive & Limited Black Friday Megatastic UltraSpecial Discount Sale Professional Plus!
  10. Sounds about right to me I've often seen acoustic performers humping a pair or more of large Marshall stacks around with them and plugging their Tanglewood acoustic guitars in. Does it say what it needs for "metal"? Asking for a friend Rob
  11. Thanks. Will see if there is a similar app in the Apple store
  12. I've had a look but it means nothing to me.... Oh Vienna That sounds.....wonderful.... or something.... is there a decoding wheel available? Thx Rob
  13. @Stub Mandrel Thanks. I'll check the Apple store. I thought you had an iPhone.
  14. @SpondonBassed Apologies. I was going to ask you "who did I speak to then?" But that would be stupid so I won't.
  15. With a title like that, how could we not....
  16. Spent the last hour trying to work out if I have a problem or not. A kind basschatter has sent me eight Goldwood 1016 tweeters. I tested them all with a tone generator on my MacBook using the headphone socket as the output into a small cheap amp and then into cables. As I put a tiny bit of power in, I can hear a high pitched signal, not loud but something is there. I get the same signal when I connect into the Omni 10.5 speaker cab with the main speaker disconnected. Since I have no idea what a Goldwood should sound like, its entirely possible that this cab is working fine, that my ears are rubbish beyond about 5Hkz (too much deep scuba diving?) and I've spent the last eight weeks worrying over something that's working fine. I did see that @SpondonBassed had some sort of frequency analyser on his phone at the SW Bass Bash. If he reads this, can he let me know what he was using as it seemed very good. I'll then check the output and see what the cab is outputting. Thanks Rob
  17. These were brought for an Ender 3 Pro which I no longer have. Bowden Tube Kit Its never been used and has a length of decent Bowden tube, a cutter that cuts at right angles (seriously very important, do not use a X-Acto blade), some springs and various Bowden connectors. Replacement Ender 3 Pro hot end Might fit other Creality printers. Free, just pay P&P, which is probably £3 for each. Thanks Rob
  18. Paul, You are welcome to them all. Let me work out postage and I'll let you know. If you are in NW North Yorkshire, you are welcome to pick up. Do you want to PM me your address please? Thanks Rob
  19. These were given to me for free but aren't really my music so I'm passing them on for free. They are all complete though the RHCP cover is a little creased. Would much prefer to send them all as one lot to somebody but suspect that's not going to happen. I'll send each of them for P&P costs which is probably £3 or so each. You are of course welcome to collect for nowt, from Clapham, North Yorkshire, and I'll even make you a decent coffee or brew of tea.
  20. This is a second psu that I just found in the cellar. It's brand new and never been used. It's the genuine MS 65W 1706 model, comes with the cloverleaf lead and UK plug and the stupid Microsoft dedicated power connector rather than the USB-C that the rest of the world uses, apart from Apple and Microsoft. I think it works, but no longer have a Surface Pro to test it on. It's never left the delivery box so I'm 99.9999% it's fine. I can't just fling it in recycling as it works. It has a massive number of ports, no I'm lying, it has a single USB-A 2.0 port. You can connect a mouse, wow, just wow. These are approx £11 on eBay new, I'll send it for the absolutely nothing simply to get rid of it. Amazon has it for the extortionate price of £14. Here's the Amazon link to it https://amzn.eu/d/bsMPodm Rob Now gone
  21. Oh wow. That is so cool it should be illegal...
  22. Brought a book, well packed, no issues at all, easy to work with. Many thanks Rob
  23. This is when 3d printing can help. My knowledge of flared ports is even less than my knowledge of unflared ports. However it costs very little to print different versions out and try them and see. I've been playing with different ways to construct guitars and testing out options. TBH, they didn't work, but I now know they don't work. I can print up to 220mm in external diameter, the actual port would be somewhat less (190mm+), but I suspect that's a massive port. Thanks Rob
  24. Phil, Get another hobby, what can possibly go wrong The offer is there if you wish to take it up. The design is done, so its easy to change as needed. The printing time is dependent on the size but it's not excessive TBH. I tend to print in terms of 8-14 hours, so a few hours here or there is nothing, so if you want to test out different configurations, very happy to help. e,g, Put a straight chamfer on the inside of the pipe vs a rounded edge (bull nose) or having the output bigger than the pipe (no idea why you'd do that but it can be done). Very happy to help as one day I may manage to find the time to build a speaker Rob
