  1. I had this book under my bed for about 9 years, really need to sit down and give it a proper go.
  2. big big riffs, glad there is another Jesus Lizard fan in here
  3. ahhh no way, that is awesome, do you have any sound demos? I'd love to hear it, I know he used a DNA Analogic Bass Dragger, this is a great video of Juan from Pedals and Effects demoing it with the MCA settings (also big up Juan dude is a low key genius)
  4. wow that is my dreammm bass what an awesome story to find a previous owner to, thanks for sharing 😄
  5. Gratitude by Beastie Boys. MCA was one of the greats, RIP 🤘

I used a 120 DR set for drop C for years on a 34' scale and worked a dream, but I wasn't jumping back to D standard i feel it would be to much tension for D standard. I think the 50-110 will be a safer bet but might get a bit saggy in drop C depending on scale length.

Its a 90's DOD Deep Freeze. I think there where 2 generations of the Deep Freeze and mine is the earlier one. In my opinion its the best bass chorus i've heard.

Ive been using a Boss OS-2 and a Source Audio OFD multieffect in the big muff setting going into a Traynor TS120-B or Fender Super Bassman (if someone can help me carry it from the car 😬) through a Aguilar 2x12 for big fat stoner rock/doom band tones and it is unstoppable. The big valve thing just hissing and spluttering just does it for me. Also something I like is throwing on an always on light chorus as it just gently modulates the bass enough to pop above the mix every now and again and gives it a spacey feeeeel. Occasionally ill throw on the octaver for added filth but rare as i hate any dry in my octaver mix so usually its to subby to get any clarity and im already pushing a lot of low end. EDIT: and of course the wah!
  9. Ahh man I hope they continue to make the JPJ bass. That thing is a beasttttttt.
  10. A stand out moment for me, my dad used to burn a CD compilations before a big trip so I could listen to music on my walkman. On a trip to Switzerland he passed me a new CD, on it was Dirty Drowning Man by Primus from 1999 Antipop album. Also the blues brothers being my dads favourite film gave me a pretty strong foundation pretty young for what built my musical tastes.
  11. They were a bit of an underdog amp and still are. But I think they have acquired a bit of a cult following as being used by the bassists from Shellac and The Jesus Lizard who have very abrasive punchy bass tones that are easily identifiable as a Traynor solid state amp. Steve Albini of Electric Audio in Chicago (also plays in Shellac, Big Black, total noise rock wizard) uses them a lot as a staple of his bass sounds he achieves in the studio. I'm not saying they are a good amp, but the reason I got it, was for my love for those albums and wanting to create that sound, which it does perfectly, but thats the only thing it does for me.

hahaaha i didn't even notice that it had changed it haha
  13. Very cool, thanks for sharing!
  14. Thats great news they are still about! Traynor is original from Canada right? From memory built to revival the Ampeg's when Canada was no longer importing them?
  15. I was lucky enough to get my hands on this little beauty from Facebook sales about 3 years ago for £50! For both! Having been a massive Jesus Lizard and Shellac fan (Bob Weston is the boss) for many many years, I couldn't believe my luck! Both dated 1980, the original 120watt speaker was blown when I bought it but I still have it get reconed, I enquired at the time and it was stupidly expensive, so ive shelved that project for another time. I used it a number of times in the studio and practice but I don't really feel comfortable taking it out live given how much of a rare beast it is. I've seen a fair few Traynor TS-50B's but ive never seen another TS-120B, has anyone else had any experience with one? From my understanding, and that of Essex Amp Repairs, its the same preamp as the TS-50B but has more power and an EQ. The lads at Essex Amp Repairs absolutely loved it and asked if I could leave it with them!

Came here to write this, pink torpedo the wah, crank up the fuzz, your having a sweet old doomy time 🤘
  17. yh same for me, id love to try the aging method but considering the Thomastik strings are like £40-50 a pop I'd feel very reluctant, my strings have been on my bass for about 2 years
  18. yh as per my original post, I do, I was just curious on the science if it worked or not
  19. I've seen a fair few players reference deadening there new flat-wound strings by using moisturiser or other creams. I know Sean Hurley mentioned he uses Vaseline to achieve the same thing. Has anyone actually ever tried this and is it worth trying? Im totally happy to dead my string by playing as I always have but think this is an interesting approach. Part of me feels weird taking my new strings and slather them in anything. Here is a link to Danny Sapko Youtube Short on the matter
  20. I have a heavily lacquered neck on the back of one of my Ibanez basses and I hated it, its still like it, but i found like 2 songs in, my hands had lubed up the back of the neck from sweat enough that I was all good, not the best solution but it worked and the only bass i had for the gig at the time, over time it sorta wore it away in areas that my hand stuck the most and now it plays a lot smoother (which by i mean, my hand doesn't grip to the lacquer as much) a satin or natural finish is my preferred but ill work with what i've got
  21. Like I said I was pretty naive to all elements regarding importing a bass, I didn't do any research before I just bought it as it was a limited run bass only available for the month I bought it, and just worked it out as I went along, wont be making that mistake again haha
  22. Being honest I don't know, the bass was £1700 so the 20% would be £340 so getting the £600 was pretty shocking and led to the selling. I was actually at work at the time of delivery and my gf's mum just paid it no questions asked (bless her paid it back when i got home) but I never followed it up to work out if it was correct, I was just so turned off owning the instrument after a 1/3ish increase in price I flipped it. No regrets.
  23. I looked at downloading some of the transcriptions from his archive thread but I was unable to all the links seem to be broken from back in the day, is there any chance we can restore? Also hope Bilbo is well, being new to community and reviewing his contributions he seemed invaluable to many.
  24. I got heavily stung by this when I ordered a bass direct from Musicman in the US, the delivery dude turned up at my door with a card machine saying I owed 600 quid, after I paid it, I immediately sold the bass as I couldn't warrant it. I actually sold it including the import duty as anyone buying it would of paid the same.
