1. Plucking awful. There was a guitar thing back in the 80's that I thought was better. It looked like a pistol with about 5 frets on it. You gripped it with the pistol handle in your right hand and you could practice scale fingering with your left. Not that I'd have bought that either. I think that the problem with these things is that a- it looks naff, like a kids woodwork project b- it's a 'great' idea that nobody actually wants.
2. Totally bloody ridiculous. Whoever did that was a cretin.
3. Yeah, I alway think that it would be a bad idea to use one's real name on any forum anywhere. I usually create unique words for internet names. Golchen was an abbreviation of my favourite chinese takeaway Golden kitchen. I didn't know at the time that it is also a tiny village in Germany!
4. Doh! I was at home and I totally forgot - finished half an hour ago.
5. Actually, there's a pic here (without LEDs on): LINK HERE The one on the left - the right hand one is altered in Photoshop.
6. EDIT: pic added I think the time has come for my Status S2 classic 5 string to go. I always wanted a Status, and now I've had one! It never quite felt like 'the one', and now I have a bass that is so it doesn't get a look in any more. Anyway, I was kind of hoping someone around here might have an idea of what it might be worth, I really can't recall how much I got it for now? It's in pretty good nick - no dings (I think!), headless, and with blue front LEDs. In a perfect world I'd probably keep it, but it takes up space and it ties up spare cash right now. I'm primarily a guitarist, and I really fancy a PRS right now so I might throw it in PX at a local shop. Anyone got an idea on value, or any interest before I trade it locally? Edit: actually I suppose I should ask this over at the Status form - haven't been there in a long time, I'll have to try and remember my log-on.
7. 5 string Fender jazz. My ideal bass.
8. Great! I've never heard of Nic France but he's certainly played with a lot of talented people. Have a blast!
9. When I was looking at the possibility of a Fender recently, I trawled around a few forums and the general concensus seemed to be that the 2009 Fenders are very good, and better than previous on quality control as well. And if you order from Thomann and get a clunker they will just take it back. I wanted a 5 string Jazz, but I couldn't find a single one to try anywhere in London!
10. Wow! cool stuff. I'm totally into playing Worship songs myself, but I don't play at my Church. I probably could get the gig easily, but I'm just too scared of getting into it at my age(!).
11. I knew him, Horatio ............. Total bummer Although I feel the need to mention that there was another thread recently where someone's band was discussing how difficult it was telling a member that he was going to get the push. Only one thing to do with adversity in life: Put it behind you and move on. After the worst episodes in my life, I have always been fortunate to move on to better things.
12. I concur, that works really well!
13. Wow! there's a blast from the past! I loved that album when I was at art college back when it came out. The songs were fantastic, the vocals were great, the production was superb. I'd really like to hear it again now. I've only got it on vinyl (somewhere??) so not very convenient.
14. I love jazz fusion! I wish I could make a gig but unfortunately too far away. Love Steely dan as well .......
15.
When I was at Newcastle College, a guy called Jim Lampi came along and proved you wrong. Awesome. Did a particularly stunning rendition of Fisherman's Dream by John Martyn.
Yeah, I was only referring to ME there ..........
16. I got a Status 5 string headless a few years ago. I really liked it, but I just didn't feel like it was 'the one'. I started an earnest search for 'the one' last summer, and I finally got it about 6 weeks ago - A fender jazz custom shop Reggie Hamilton. Amazing bass, I love everything about it. It's just like being married when you know that you'll never look at another wo..................... hold on, that's a bad analogy - lets just say that I don't think I'll ever want another bass in my entire life.
17. sing + guitar = easy sing + keyboards = very easy sing + bass = impossible sing + chapman stick = don't even think about suggesting it!!!!! It's all academic as my voice has been known to cause small rodents to commit suicide.
18. I use both Nu-skin and superglue a lot to patch up (dodgy cracking sking and my nails separate painfully from the nail bed!). Just Nu-skin won't really help, it's too weak. If it were me, I'd put sone nu-skin on first to hold it together, wait a few hours for it to go really hard, then put some superglue over that as it's a lot tougher, and finally when that dries I'd put one or two extra-adhesion plasters over it. I had a nasty injury a couple of years ago, I sliced the top of a fretting finger off at work using a surgical scalpel. I swear the blood squirted about 10 inches!
19. With enough money and more importantly, space, I'd love to own that!
20. Wow, that looks kinda weird! I've never seen one of those before. I guess it works with a mac looking at the box pic? I'm 'almost' tempted ............
21. You think a 4 string bass is hard? try memorising the 300 note positions on my Chapman stick! I'm crap on theory, I don't know fretboards very well at all but I can make music on guitars and basses. I do know all the notes instantly on a piano though. I wish I could memorise all the notes on guitar/bass, but after many years it just hasn't happened.
22. I take it that no-one else has an opinion on these then ........
23. I bought one of these a while back, and for my purposes (basically playing at home at a level that doesn't annoy the wife) the sound is perfect. I tried a couple of practice amps before but they were crap and just couldn't handle a low B, but these seem fine. I like having the effects and the Eq, although I don't play around with them too much unless I'm using it for the Chapman stick. Overall, I'd say that this is a great little practice amp. Having said that, there is one thing I don't like about it, and one thing I HATE about it! I don't like having a tuner that emits no sound, and I HATE the tempo control for the drum machine. It's the most bloody annoying thing ever. Being a 'tap' button with a lot of travel and some resistance, you have no real control at all over the tempo that you get. Want it a bit faster or slower - forget it! On average I must be tapping it about 20 times just trying to get a tempo in the right ballpark. Actually, tapping is the wrong word, it's definitely a push button, with none of the finesse associated with a tap. I really wish that these could be modded in some way, so that it could have a rotating control instead. I'm seriously considering trying to work out if it can be bodged up in some way!
24. I like em Paul! Cool the way you edit your vids together, what software are you using?
