  1. I believe the CTM100 and CTM300 have the same EQ and sound similar but the CTM30 has different EQ / preamp
  2. GK Legacy 800 wasn’t the tone I was seeking ( it was too mid forward to my ears ) and EQ points very different to say Ashdown The TH700 is warmer sounding and vintage very much like the ABM600 I guess. It’s not as deep and full sounding as my CTM100 but it’s very good at warmth yet clarity remains in the notes. Yet to try it with the band but so far it gets top marks. Fan noise is about the same as other Class D heads but quieter than the ABM600 for sure and the ELF
  3. So this arrived today after reading many reviews Some reviews said they struggled with the Gain / Drive / EQ but I’ve found quite the opposite it sounds bloody amazing even everything flat and drive Off and Gain low. Can go from warm clean to gritty valve kind of tone and a lot in between Will put it through it paces at rehearsals and see what the band thinks. Prices have dropped a bit so it’s a decent price new for Aguilar stuff and it seems a quality product
  4. Mines for sale on here but it’s the new look version so more like the 200R New last year direct from Ashdown
  5. Just need to add the CTM100 to the collection lol 😂
  6. I was expecting a very average quality compressor but comparing to my Keeley I was staggered how good it sounds
  7. At the moment the LMB3 followed by my TC Spark Booster ! I know it’s not Boss but hey ho !
  8. Yep I’ve got the Boss three pedal BCB30X box as well 👍

    Boss LMB3

Just purchased the Boss LMB3 to see how it performs It’s pretty decent and I can compare it to my Keeley which is great. A little EQ shift when using it but it’s very mild and even the dreaded Enhance knob isn’t as hissy as I’d read For the money it’s a very decent pedal and a keeper for my little Boss board
  10. Great amps .. I still enjoy using mine for certain gigs Very flexible EQ section and nice drive tone
  11. I would look for the SVT212AV cab Powerful enough to be used on its own for small or large gigs Pair it with the Ashdown RM500 or similar 500w head and you have a tidy rig that will suit nearly all gigs. I think you need a clear clean kind of bass tone which that rig will provide and if your next band is say rock it’s good for that too !! Here below are other reasonably priced heads Orange Little Bass Thing Mark Bass LM111 or IV Ampeg PF800 avoid the 350 and 500 Ashdown RM800
  12. U.K. built Ashdown CTM100 100w all valve bass head shipping in U.K. if arranged by buyer Purchased last year direct from Ashdown Roqsolid Cover included All original Ashdown packaging and shipping in U.K. can be arranged by purchaser. Make me an offer and you might be lucky and get to own one of the best all valve bass amps around. Very loud 100w amp SOLD
  13. What’s current or past owners thoughts about the Tone Hammer series amps ? The reviews sound very positive and it appears to be very reliable.
  14. I had the Portaflex PF115LF ported and it was a lovely cab but a little heavy. Nice sound and good rating. The SVT212AV is the one to aim for as it’s a superb single use cab
  15. Can’t you do what the rest of us do and use ….
  16. I’m the same .. played for years never ever considering a pick even though before bass I also played guitar to a decent standard using a pick. Having returned to the bass about four years ago I just found my finger tone was getting lost especially in certain rock covers. Playing with a pick has created a better sound for myself and the band and I found after trying many pick types that 2mm Delrin Prime Grip ( black ) just worked very well. Gator picks in same gauge were close but still not as good. And now we can enjoy palm muting 🤟
  17. Keeley Bassist Limiting Amplifier is my chosen compressor Simple to set up and works without tone suck or colouration This kicked the M87 off the board
  18. RED HEART ❤️
  19. I’ve tried Nylon too and yes very warm sounding but not as robust as Delrin. I have the Big Stubby ( nylon ) in 2mm but the tip is too pointed for me After using triangle picks going to the smaller Delrin 500 Primegrip was a challenge but the grip keeps in place and the size allows for faster picking
  20. I’m finding the very best tone I can get is using Dunlop Delrin Primegrip 2mm picks These are the black ones and have a fuller sound compared to Ultex or Toretex Using the Keeley Bassist Comp. is helping too adding a depth to the tone when pick playing
  21. Have you changed string type ? I found different tension from brand to brand can make a difference in neck relief
  22. Just found these and I’m enjoying the depth of sound ( deeper ) and nice feel to using them They have a good grip surface too Delrin 500 in 2mm Ive tried the Red version 1.14mm and it’s very surprising how much deeper this thicker pick sounds
  23. I’m back on this tone challenge and I’m on occasions happy finger style but then sometimes pick. I can do both equally as bad !! Or good I guess so it’s more of best tone with the band. I now use mostly my CTM100 head and it works well with the picked PBass Found I needed better EQ so added the MXR preamp and for faster compressor the Keeley Bassist I would say that’s the best I can make it sound using a pick. Note definition is better and less boomy and even removing some mids it’s nice and punchy
  24. My backup Elf is loud enough with the band using a 4ohm 212 cab ( Ampeg ) I gig with 100w valve amp through the same cab and it’s very loud running approx 3/4 output
  25. I would look at the Ashdown Rm500 with either a 212 4 ohm cab or two 210 8 ohm cabs and you’re set for home and gigging GK do have some nice heads and cabs too such as the GK Legacy 800 Orange Little Bass Thing is a lovely 500w head so perhaps another option
