I have primed then sprayed the head black and left overnight. I decided to go with my initials on the end of the headstock as opposed to my second choice which was that of 'f***er Pee Bass' Found my decal paper and printed it off, cut it out, laquered it, left it to dry. I then soaked it in water and guess what? I had actually picked up my sticker paper so I thought, f*** it, its thin enough so I've stuck it onto the headstock and began laquering it. Its looking good so far - I'll post some pics later.

A black wire is normally an earth - is there anywhere on the back of one of the pots with solder but nothing attached? Try playing a note with it plugged in and while the note is ringing, touch the black wire against the back of one of the pots - any one will do. If that solves it then that's your problem.

Before you learn Nillson's 'Without You' and 'I Fall to Pieces' by whoever - these are actually songs about people splitting up. You've no idea how many people ask for it for first dances then quickly change their minds when we tell them what the songs are about. There are loads of websites devoted to listing top wedding band songs. The drummer and I split the work between us. I do the packs, print CDs etc and he sends the packs, speaks to the potential customer's. We only do 1 wedding fare a year. The guitarist's son did our webpage. He made a god job of it but, unfortunately, the pictures that we had taken make us look like the f***ing 'Good Ole Boys' Country band. Having my, now long gone, '51 reissue P bass in the middle of the main picture doesn;t help. We have new pictures but haven't updated the site yet.

I've been playing 21 years now and I've toyed with the idea of learning how to tap for while. What would be the best method of learning this style? Not sure whether it would be video, book or whatever else and if so can anyone name some titles for me that would be good? I can slap but have never studied it properly to get the best from it. I get the chance to do solos with the rock band so it would be good to do something a bit different from playing a million miles an hour which is what I normally do.

Is it just me that reads 'reliced' as 'relissed'? Most Cs with a vowel after them are pronounced with an S sound. I/we need to start a campaign to have the spelling of this adverb changed to accomodate an exta K after the C - 'relicked'. Ah, I can read it properly now. yes I realise accomodate has a vowel after it but it also is a pair of Cs and you get nothing for a pair (not in this game)

Always on the right hand side of the drummer, ever since I joined my first band. It could be that I am usually looking across the fretboard so that it makes it easier to look up and see any visual cues or that it gives me a bit of room as no one wants to be speared by the head of a bass so they keep their distance.

I have to impress everyone in the store with my awsomeness as I am truely 'the man'. I just give them what they want, a blazingly fast slap solo that goes something like: giggedy giggedy giggedy giggidy paparap paprap diddly biddly widdly hiddly shmoo. No wait, I'm getting mixed up with everyone else that seems to frequent every music store I've ever been to. Personally, after checking that it's in tune I do the neck speed test which is a faster version of the intro to Chinatown by Thin Lizzy beginning on the E of the G string. If I can play that then I'll continue, If not then back it goes. I do a lot of octaves as well - something like 'Everybody Dance' by Chic is a good one. I don't slap ever as I don't play that way live so that would be a waste of my time and the other visitor's hearing. One thing though - why does everyone have to be so loud when they are testing gear? I've left music shops many a time because of this.

Hee Haw for me. For some reason I seem to be getting better as well I think if I wanted to learn a new technique then I'd practice. I'm lucky in that I can get away with playing once along to any songs I need to learn for a practice on the day and be able to play them at the practice. Most of the songs I do with the wedding band I haven't heard and most of the time I don't even know who recorded them.

If only it was a 5 string, a stage II, I could actually get to Bristol and I had any money whatsoever then I'd be all over this fictitious bass. Seriously though, I absolutely love these basses. The Corvette is giving me the Streamer bug after being let down by the ergonomics of my NT5 Thumb a couple of years back. One of the last of the basses I have on my wish list but have never owned.

There's one thing that has always annoyed me about my Gold Warmoth and was something that I did when building it. When I was trying to increase the size of the gap to fit my JAN III, I made a total arse of cutting it. I ended up having to take it to Jimmy Moon in Glasgow to fix it as I had positioned it in the wrong place meaning that the first 5 notes were very badly out of tune with the rest of the bass. He did a great job but those chips next to the nut and more recently the holes left behind after changing from a Hipshot string retainer to standard one are getting more and more annoying. Long before getting the Corvette, I wanted to fill the holes, sand it flat and then paint the headstock black but didn't want to leave myself without a bass. Now I have the Corvette I can take my time doing this. There has also been one thing missing for me as well and that is a logo on the headstock. I don't care that it doesn't say Fender but I really want something on it to identify it as my bass. I have everything I need: Filler, Primer, Black paint, Laquer and a sheet of decal paper. The first thing to do was to remove the strings and neck: These 2 pics show you the holes and the chipped section right next to the the nut. I'm going to let the filler dry for a bit and while I am doing so, have a go at designing a new logo for the bass.

Tried T-cut back in the day when I were a lad and this used to be all fields. Used a bit too much pressure and rubbed right through the finish to the wood! Whoops

For rock I used to use D'Adddario Chromes. Quite a bit brighter than Thomastik and higher tension as well.

I have a habit of breaking headphones so never go for expensive ones. I use these into my Genz for practicing and used them with my electronic drum kit and they're really good and really comfortable.
