  1. First amp was a Teisco re-badged for Sears or Eaton’s as a Northland (sold) 100 watt Marshall (sold) Traynor Mono Block (sold) several blackface Fender Bassmans (sold) GK MB150 (blew it up , liked it so much I had it repaired , still in use) GK RB 400 second version (sold) that RB was in use for so many years , it was indestructible , amazing workhorse GK RB 400 IV (sold) GenzBenz Streamliner 900 … later serviced by agedhorse , it’s like a brand new amp Bergantino Forte Fender Rumble 15 (sold) (garbage) GK MB 200 (developed the pink ring of doom , liked it enough to have it repaired , still in use) Hotone ThunderBass (used as a headphone amp, gets a lot of use) SWR HeadLite Darkglass e500 Monique by Jule I might pick up something like a Demeter Minnie as a dedicated back end for Monique , but the Forte does that job well. I’ve caught myself looking at Aguilar TH 500 amps but that would just be for home use. I do think their SL 112 cabs are fine looking pieces of furniture. I have a nice lightweight modular gigging rig , and two practice rigs set up. So much of what I have gets regular use.

There’s just a couple I’d sell now but I’m not under any panic to. I’m more likely to look at amps and cabs these days although I’m well equipped, I keep thinking an Aguilar sl112 would look good in the living room, fine piece of furniture…
  3. That looks good. Real good.
  4. Had one but sold it to get HDN 210 & 112 cabs. The smaller , lighter , modular was a better fit for me.
  5. With an oval red pickguard it would have that olive thing happening.
  6. I usually bring two gig bags , each has a strap , tuner , and instrument cable. One also has a flashlight , short extension cord , spare speaker cable , DI xlr cable and extra tuner batteries. There’s a little bag with Allen wrenches , mini screwdrivers , nail clippers etc in there too. My amp bag has power cable , speaker cable and instrument cable , I’m also using a tube preamp and that bag has the power cable , and a spare, extra instrument cable , and connecting cable. Most gigs I often do with a single cab , but I have a 112 and 210 for outdoor gigs or larger rooms. I don’t usually bring a back up amp unless I’m driving out of town. I have several to choose from. Usually something tiny , either a little mini GK or an older SWR Class D. My main gigging gear is Bergantino cabs , driven by a Bergantino Forte head , I generally use a Monique tube pre and bypass the Berg tone stack. I like modern lightweight gear with serious slam. And tube tone. It works. I try to keep my gig gear completely separate from my practice or rehearsal stuff so it’s always ready to grab and go. I do not have to pack for a gig. So tuners , cables , basses , amps , cabs and whatever are completely separate for my practice rigs. I have one at home and another set up at the in-laws as I spend a lot of time there helping to look after my ageing mother-in-law. I have twenty something basses to choose from , but tend to bring a Dano Longhorn as my main gigging bass , and then something interesting. I’m mostly into short scales these days but sometimes will bring a 34. I try and use both on the gig. I have two funky little practice rigs. At the in-laws I’m usually driving a Darkglass e500 into a Phil Jones C2 cab. There’s also a little Hotone Thunderbass I use with headphones. I generally keep around five basses there. At home there’s a GK RB 200 into an Ampeg 210AV , sometimes I use an older SWR Headlite there , or even my old GB Streamliner. I have some nice choices. I’m a little nerdy about amps. My usual practice volume is not loud , but I want good tone. I’ve been regularly gigging since the late 70’s and have acquired the usual stuff over the years , it’s nice to be still using it.
  7. Nova Scotian here, and somewhat nerdy about gear. Welcome!
  8. I had several Bassmans , not great bass amps , but great guitar heads. Harp players love them. I think the seller is a pedal steel player. Any old blackface Fender is going to need a trip to the spa , but once they’ve been rejuvenated they’re good for many years. There’s good reason so many guitar players love them. We’ve got several really good tube techs in town, and I believe the buyer fixes them himself.
  9. The guy that picked them up is an amp & guitar tech, and says they both need work. I was privately chatting on a Canadian forum. Seller said the amp worked last time he tried it , but it doesn’t now. The buyer is not too concerned , it’s stock. The bass is a 62 and will need a refin and major clean , neck , pickups , pickguard and pots are original. Major restoration , but it will be gorgeous when he’s done. He got quite the deal. But a major overhaul is needed.
  10. There was also a 64 Jazz refin for $1200 . And $1200 for the Bassman. I’m not into long scale Fenders (even vintage bargains) but somebody got one heck of a deal today. The Jazz was a stripped natural refin , and the decal was terrible. But I’m about 99% sure it was the real thing. The Bassman looked to be in nice shape.
  11. A blackface Bassman just popped up on our local kijiji. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-guitar/city-of-halifax/bass-guitar-and-amp-fender/1651862063
  12. That’s wild!
  13. I’m mostly a finger player , and often a thumb player , up by the fretboard and palm muting for a real old school almost upright sound. But there’s things that call for a pick.
  14. I recently ordered a 3 point bridge from the Hipshot EBay store , and the service was stellar. They state that they only ship to the continental US , but will make exceptions. .
  15. I live in Canada (with a health care system that is falling apart) , but I was referring to some in the US that are against taxpayer funded health care. And I have heard some in the US refer to the metric system as being part of a Socialist plot. They also believed that I was trying to take their guns away.
  16. That’s exactly the type of service I was referring to.
  17. Some there seem to think health care is the gateway to communism. They even think going metric will lead there. But I’ve found excellent retailers in the US. And despite the exchange and shipping I’ve made some cross border purchases. Mostly because the service has been beyond wonderful. I’ve dealt with people that really knew the product and were very keen to help.
  18. I prefer a preamp you plug into , in fact I use one , even if I might pick up and play an “active” bass. Mine has some tubes so it’s not going to work inside a bass. I prefer passive basses and have no problem with the term. And I’m one that enjoys short scale , passive , set neck , single humbucker in the sweet spot , two knob basses. This one here is probably my favourite bass to play. So I was quite happy to see Sandberg release this.
  19. I had been thinking of this skit …
  20. Eleven!
  21. Before you buy another bass , have you tried stiffer strings on the shortscale?
  22. That’s a nice looking cab!
  23. Long & McQuade is the coast to coast Cdn retailer and we have several in the Regional Municipality , the big one is in Halifax but they just carry basic stuff. Fender, Ampeg, Traynor, GK and Mesa for the most part although some Ashdown has just started to appear. With a very vanilla stock of basses. There’s no depth for choice. Even a simple set of shortscale flatwound strings is a special order. We used to have a great Vintage shop that would have interesting stuff pop up , it’s unfortunately gone. I see more interesting stuff pop up online in the local buy&sell … kijiji.
  24. I have the e500 and just keep it as a little practice amp. I like it , it’s fun to spin the knobs and create presets. I enjoy it so much I decided to buy a Darkglass hoodie. It seems everybody got there before me , they’ve been sold out, there’s no sign of any more on the way. I’ve been checking their site for some months now. I live in Eastern Canada, and we have winter. Darkglass stated their hoodies were warm , quality hoodies , and being based in Finland I figure they understand winter pretty good. … so I’m a bit whizzed with them.
  25. Fine looking rig!
