Full report (even down to the strings) or you can't call yourself a true Gear Stalker! (copyright the late Pete Academy I believe)

Quick update. We had our first rehearsal since the tour, so I took this along as the supplied bass gear is typical of rehearsal rooms - a bit of an afterthought. I plugged the Genzler into one of the room's Hartke Transporter 410s and it still sounded pretty damned great!! Not particularly loud, and one of the cones was farting, but so much better than when I've used my Carvin or their matching Hartke head.

How important is the band name for you?
Mykesbass replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Not a band name, but I'm sure someone on here had the tag line "your dad would like us" - anyone own up to this classic? -
Serious question, would a looped signal (basically a recording) interact with the amp in exactly the same way as the live signal?

Twice in the ten or so years I have been back gigging. First time, total failure of an early Yamaha class D job, ended up playing quietly through a Peavey guitar amp to get through the set. Second time, just a week ago, was on a small tour and the IEC from my main amp got cleared up, probably by the PA guys. Problem is, it is a Fender Pro 800, with an unusual, high power IEC, not the standard. Didn't have a spare IEC but did have my Carvin as a back up (oh, and then went and bought a Genzler so had a back up to the back up - my excuse and I'm sticking to it) 😎
-
No, but have just bought the Genzler and it sounds great through my two Purple Chili 112s. Played it in some good size rooms. And got to hear two other bass players playing through it, very, very happy with it.

Between Ed Friedland "a guy who was referred to as the Bass Whisperer" and Dood you should have most things covered. Both do sensible reviews that show what the amp, and not they can do. Problem with amps, as I found in Bass Direct, is that they also depend so much on cabs and rooms, so will be even harder to judge no matter how good the video.

When you accidentally invent the fuzz bass solo
Mykesbass replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
Now him and Phil Baugh on stage together would have been interesting! -
Must check this out, and dig a few of their CDs out of my collection.

So, fully recovered now. Made a small loss ( not including loss of earnings) but had the best experience - playing to a paying audience who are actually there and want to listen to you! We have also picked up some really nice dates for next year, so job done! Thanks for the responses to the thread, nice to have the support of fellow bass players (especially when you are on a bill with a bass virtuoso)! Just got to put that Fender amp up for sale now 😎

Got a young guy called Sam.

Something happened with the booking at Corn Exchange. Got moved about 10 days ago. To be honest, this place is probably better for us.

Last night, in a very damp Stamford, but cool venue, the Voodoo Lounge. Gratuitous rig photo, including Shuker bass, and @obbm cables all round, plus the Genzler that sounded great at the Bullingdon last night.

Yes, seems that way. Sometimes think about taking a guitar, as there are sometimes not as many of them!

On tour, and was passing Leamington Spa, so naturally had to take a look in Bass Direct. Ended up totally smitten by the Genzler in the shop. Today it got its first outing at the Bullingdon, Oxford. FMOB - it's a little beauty. Clear, articulate, trouser flapping, deep but clear. Go and get one NOW!!

Penultimate night tonight, Bullingdon, Oxford.

So is driving into the centre! Expecting a traffic violation ticket to be waiting for me when I get home! The gig was in an access between 10AM and 4 PM only road which we had to drive in 🤨

Whoops, today is a day off, and our journey from Manchester to Oxford went dangerously close to Leamington Spa, where this happened...

Our Travelodge was next door to a 24 hour McDonalds - first one I've had in probably 20 years. Think they seem to have improved 😎

It showed up as unsent on my phone. Oh well, I'll leave it there for comedic effect 😎

Last night was a club held in a vegan cafe in Cleethorpes... Another enjoyable gig - modest, but enthusiastic audience. This is so much more rewarding than our previous Dog & Duck gigs. We've got a great rapport with Eliana and her band who are travelling with us, and hopefully we'll be doing some more work with her next year. We've now picked up some really nice support slots and festival dates care of the promoter, who not only likes our music, but also really appreciates our attitude. Two valuable lessons last night - Carry spares. My IEC for the Fender went missing at the Keighley gig - it is an unusual fitting, more like those used for high powered computer servers. Fortunately I have my Carvin with me. Second lesson learned, no. You don't need weight for great sound. Everyone agreed, the Carvin sounded different, but either felt it was as God or better than the Fender. Amps for sale section here I come!! Manchester tonight - Night & Day club.

Delayed update - this failed to post two nights ago: Fabulous gig at Cafe Choice Choice, a gorgeous cafe/bar on Keighley station. Tonight is the first gig of this kind at the venue. The local promoter was let down on the original one, so these guys stepped in. Very hospitable, as are the promoters. Really well looked after, and all three bands putting in great performances. Could get used to this 😀 Here's Eliana Cargnelutti and her band closing the show.

I'm currently on tour with my rock/blues band. This is a 45 minute set of original material, played to modest but appreciative audiences. It is so much more rewarding than playing to those indifferent pub audiences. Hard work, costing us a bit of money (plus loss of day job earnings), but so glad we made this jump.

And, just for good measure, a thoroughly embarrassing photo of this old duffer competing with our 19 year old singer/rhythm guitarist in a shape throwing contest 🙄
