The PCB of the J-Lo is pretty sizeable so doesn't lend itself to being rehoused

Yes, it's a bit of a monster innit! Ah well.

  2. Eddie, you're obviously a far more patient man than I (and I do mean that as a compliment). All I can say is that I hope it works out for you. Given what you've just said, my instinct would be to close the thread for now and await further developments -- as I said, it can always be reopened if you wish.

  3. Whilst I wait for my programmable helicopter to arrive in the post  another vague question has floated into what I laughably refer to as my mind... have any of you folks ever transplanted the guts of an Ashdown stomp box into a smaller more board-friendly enclosure?

Agreed, with the slight amendment added. Personally I'd be looking for closure via cash rather than an instrument that has the quite real potential to be a} shonky and b} unsellable once you get (as hiram said above) tired of being reminded every time you look at it of all the years off ballache you went through to end up with something that isn't what you wanted.

Any snide comments from band members about whether I could afford a ‘better’ instrument is met with “it would have been a waste of money playing with you.”

  6. Are you assuming that's the only thing I took away from it...?

What I was actually doing was comparing and contrasting it with the altogether more restrained (dare I say British?) nature of the discussion here.

  7. Just had a glance at the TB thread... I don't know whether to be amused or alarmed by the bloke who said something along the lines of "you're lucky you didn't do that to me, if you had I'd have come over on a plane and {strong suggestion of violence}".

What's the nature of your click problem ? How did you improve it to some extent ? What pedals etc are at the start/end of fx chain ?

I tried Fuzzdog's optocoupler bypass, and their buffered bypass, neither of which did much. I reduced it a bit by adding 5M pull down resistors on the send and return (I used 5M because they were the biggest I had in my resistor box), but there is still a pronounced electrical click/pop. There's only one pedal in the chain, and it's a Zoom MS-60B.

Hmmm - not entirely sure this is going to help much in the 'De-clicking' dept.  😞

Advertised as a 'soft switch' solution, but that appears to mean 'uses a light-touch' momentary switch, rather than 'prevents switching noise/pops etc.'

Essentially, its just replacing a mahoosive mechanical footswitch with a (mechanical-switch) relay - i can't see any serious dedicated circuitry which conditions the signal o/p at switchover.  ....just my €0.02, from an old duffer of no consequence... (an 'expert' will be along soon)

I guess I'm going to find out. If it does, great, and if it doesn't, well I like to tinker anyway. Never happier than when I'm soldering my fingers to bits of wire.

OK, but I still have no clue what "implement ‘divide by two’ logic" means and am too old to learn.

Switch debouncing? But a capacitor and a JK flip-flop with J and K left to float to logic 1 would probably accomplish the same thing.

  9. I'm still trying to de-click my send/return loop pedal switch thingy, it's better than it was but still not great. I happened across this circuit board which appears to be just the ticket -- jack input/outputs to 'Input' and 'Output', send and return to 'B_In' and B_Out', and a momentary footswitch attaches to, errm, 'Switch', and that appears to be it. Oh, and a 9v supply. On paper, it appears to be the ticket. I wish it was available as just a PCB, as all bits are easy enough to source and I like soldering :) . Anyway, I've ordered one to give it a whirl and will report back.

  10. Of particular interest, the new MS-60B+.

Bax have the guitar version, listing here. I imagine the operational description will be common to all the new + units.

If those 'scroll' buttons do what I'm hoping they do, they will be a massive improvement on the current unplussed version - its patch cycling is its real Achilles' heel.

@Dood, if you can get your hands on one of these for review, I will be all ears. Eyes. Whatever.

The ACG comment was purely an aesthetic comment - arguably this thread should not have been muddied with comments about whether or not people find Letts' basses aesthetically pleasing, but that's a couple of people now who have misinterpreted the ACG comment as somehow lumping Alan in with this Letts guy on a conduct/business sense level.

ACG is ace, Letts is not - can we drop it now, please?

Agreed. I have hidden all the ACG-based comments, as they're just muddying the waters.

Oh one thing that was not so great. I forgot the riff to poker face, which wouldn't have been an issue except I was already half way through it. Yes, I had played half of it fine, and then just boom - came out of the chorus and couldn't remember how it went. Isnt the brain a great thing :/

Oh if only I had a crisp tenner for every time I’ve done that…

Used my wireless and went and had a boogie on the dancefloor during the last song - I can heartily recommend it!

Seconded. I always go out and bounce about with the punters during the second solo in Night Boat To Cairo, our last song. Great fun and they love it.
