Seven Years - Level 42

Sorry, had a look but couldn't find anything reasonable let alone cheap. Accommodation prices have gone silly in recent years. You'd be better paying Rich a tenner to put the duvet cover on himself - me, I'd pay £20 to get out of doing that job 😉.
I've just put said duvet cover on, and can confirm that I would gladly have paid someone 30 quid to do it

Just the usual 'week before the Bash' shout-out for anyone with mains cable extension leads to please bring them.
Also, anyone who can arrive early (any time after 8.30am) and help with set-up will be most welcome and get their breakfast thrown in - their mouths, that is 🙂
I'll get there as early as I can. I've got a gig the night before but it's only half an hour from home.

Proper bargain that. Following this with interest. I remember trying out a US Curlee in Hickies Music in Reading, back in the day. I'm sure it was double P, but my memory might be playing tricks on me.

Anyone with recommendations for a place to stay Sunday->Monday? Cheap is my top priority, then proximity to any post-bash pub session (if it happens).
I have a spare bed you're welcome to. If you help me put the duvet cover on, it's yours.
It's not that close to the Bash venue alas, but it's in the right direction to your house.

I use Elixirs and I get at least a year out of them. More if they don't see a lot of action. I tend to put the used ones on other less-used basses as there's generally a decent amount of life left in them. The ones on my fretless, acoustic and Wal basses are at least 3 years old.

Timebomb (Rancid) - Cool Ska riff with some backing vox, good fun
Yeah, that's one of my favourites in my ska band's set. Bit of pick action and a driven SVT tone, and as close as I get to leaping about.
Other ska favourites are:
Nite Klub (I get a wee solo
)
Ghost Town (gorgeous dubby bassline, Horace is a genius)
Night Boat to Cairo (great fun)
Is This Love? (love it to bits)

I'm not sure that I would consider this to be a suitable role model for young girls, from a sartorial point of view, if this is the image that one is required to project. To me, it's the equivalent of the old, male, 'cucumber in your pants' image so prevalent in certain rock/pop bands. There are more sober ways to promote oneself and the bass, without the, to me, tacky fake call-girl look. I've no comment to make on the playing, nor the bass; I'm a drummer.
If that was my daughter that you'd just accused of dressing like a prostitute, you and I would be having very serious words. Sorry, this is absolutely out of order. 'Suitable role model'? Seriously? You realise it's not 1970 any more, right? I'm sure she'd probably pee herself laughing if she saw that, but I wouldn't blame her if she got very cross about it either.
Anyway. For our delectation, here are a group of male role models promoting themselves and their instruments in a sober fashion. Perhaps one of them looks like a whore?

But the point for this discussion is that there's no basis for "correcting" Blu to Blue when the former is part of her actual given name as well as the name she uses.
Something to bear in mind is the dreaded autocorrect. Anyone contributing from a phone or some such runs the risk of their carefully typed 'Blu' being amended to 'Blue' without realising. It's not always going to be deliberate.

Yep, it's a 5534. I'll check my IC stash and see if I have one. Failing that, I'll let you know.

- RAFFLE PRIZES Please let us know what goodies you can bring so we've all got extra reasons for coming. As our regulars know already, pretty much everybody invariably ends up winning something - even if it's donated to them out of sympathy by one of the multiple winners. I'll kick things off with a couple of premium-quality Bash T-shirts 😮
I can throw in
1) a set of black GB7-alike tuners, came off my Spector Q4... they seem to be good quality, work perfectly with next to no slack, but the buttons are slightly tarnished;
2) my trusty old Zoom 509 Modulator multi-FX. I've had this thing since the late 17th century, it's stuffed full of nice modulation effects including a very good intelligent pitch shifter. I replaced the battery clip when the old one fell to bits, other than that it's always worked fine. I've fitted a new battery and I even have a copy of the original manual, albeit a bit water-damaged. If nothing else, it makes a brilliant headphone amp.

Somewhere in Covent Garden springs to mind, was it called the Rock Garden? I remember in the late 80's our label at the time getting a promo mailout from them saying we could play in their actual central London șhïthole if we bought £35 worth of tickets and could guarantee a 150 punters on the night.
I think the label replied but with the caveat that a champagne and 7 course meal rider would be provided otherwise the venue would have to pay them £5000 or something daft like that.
Still waiting to hear back from them 🤔
Yes, that was indeed one, in fact here is my band playing said salubrious establishment in 1987.
I'm behind the keys player on the left, you can just see my left hand and the neck of my Wal, and the SH-09 I used for synth basslines. The stage was microscopic.

Pay To Play was very much a thing in the 80s. If you wanted to play gigs in That London, you inevitably had to pay for some of them. It was the price we paid in our search for stardom.
