Options:
1: Fire A for the same reasons he has about other people. Replace him.
2: Leave the toxic environment completely, but throw that grenade on the way out - "I am leaving the band. I cannot believe A is secretly plotting to bin B and even set up an audition for C. That's is appalling. A band should be like a marriage - if it's not working you end it. Not try out a side piece first"
3: Seduce A's partner. (Seems to be a rule).
For a proper grenade-in-the-portaloo departure, I would suggest the following amendment to 2, assuming that there's a D, E and F (or even G, H , I, J, K, L and M if your band is a ludicrous monster like mine) and that they're not party to the skulduggery:
2: Leave the toxic environment completely, but throw that grenade on the way out - "I am leaving the band. For those of you who don't know, there is a secret plot to bin one of you and there is an audition already arranged for the replacement. That's is appalling. A band should be like a marriage - if it's not working you end it. Not try out a side piece first"
D to M will now be wondering which one of them is the backstabbee and who the backstabbers are. Kaboom.

Fish, 'Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors'. Gorgeous fretless bass by the utterly awesome and much missed John Giblin.
The mid/solo section of this track is an absolute highlight.

Big Country, 'Steeltown'. Tony Butler is an absolute monster on this, superb melodic playing and a HUGE tone. And fabulous BVs too. Another guy to file under 'criminally underrated'.

And about bloody time too.

Just pulled the trigger on one of these. Thought it sounded interesting, worth a punt for the price. Anyone else have any experience of this? I'm expecting it to be very guitar oriented, but I'm sure there'll be usable stuff in there.

My list to Santa remains as unrealistic as ever:
- Wal Mk2/Mk3 5-string
- Yamaha TRB-5P
- 1965 Fender Jazz...
- ...or a Limelight replica

By far the best bang-per-buck money I've spent this year was the <£100 I spent on my TC Electronic BG250-115 combo. Loud, portable and stupidly cheap. Scruffy, but who cares.

Oh man, I had one of these back in the 80s. Gigged the blazes out of it. Wonderful big phat pharty sounds, I wish to god I'd never flogged it.
In fact, that pattern of paint bubbling round the Roland logo on the right hand end looks so familiar, this might even have been my actual one.

I've had a smattering of Yamaha basses, and they've without exception been superb instruments. The neck on my RBX765A was so good, I got Jon Shuker to copy the neck profile for the custom he built for me.
I don't have a Yam at the moment, but I would sell a kidney for a TRB5P.

Two of these, as new and completely unused. No marks of any sort, just dust. Bought with the intention of hanging a couple of basses up, but never got round to it. WYSIWYG -- no screws included, but those are easy to source from your friendly neighbourhood DIY emporium. M4 x 45mm seems to be the manufacturer's recommendation.
Here's the Hercules product page: HCGSP-39WB PLUS - Hercules Stands
Thomann are selling these at £15 a pop, but that doesn't include postage.
I would far, far prefer to sell them as the pair, but will split if I really must. £13.50 each, both for £25.

If I was to buy another bass, it would almost certainly be a shorty.

Havnt heard good reports about the Chowny, there's not many I like the look of, all crazy colours, like bright blue and bright green, love to see a black one, or a white...
The photo doesn't do the sapphire burst justice, it is utterly gorgeous in the flesh. If I was to buy one, it would absolutely be in that blue. And IMO, they are damned fine basses. Surprisingly versatile sound.

A Chowny CHB would be a great one if you can find one for a good price.

I also had a blue 406QM. I never considered them to be uncomfortable in that way
Ditto and ditto. Still got my 406QM and it's not uncomfortable at all.

Just to go on-topic for a second (shock!), a quick straw poll of my basses reveals that apart from my very first bass, a '65 Höfner, every instrument is active. Even the ones that started out passive. I guess I just like them that way.
