I Want To Buy A Blonde Double Bass
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in EUB and Double Bass
cool, cheers for the info, things like projection and build quality are the bits that scare me really, can't tell that from pictures so thats really helpful thanks. also if anyone has any suggestions of other basses i should check out let me know -
i've been looking for about a year at various double basses and the only real decision i've made is i now know i definitely want a blonde! these are the ones i've found; Strunal Primavera gedo musik Thomann anybody who has any experience with these please let me know your opinions, the good and bad points etc. i've been looking for a while and i don't think i'm really getting anywhere, the only one i've been able to try was the gedo musik one. A friend of mine bought one and it sounds and feels pretty good to me but its the only double bass i've ever played so what do i know!?
I like it a lot. I've owned a few basses including a B&H and it compares favourably. It's had a few tweaks, including replacing the adjustable bridge (it rattled) with a solid one and swapping out the metal tailpiece for a wooden one, but I've no complaints. To be brutally honest I bought it because I'm a sucker for blonde basses with violin corners rather than for the acoustic tone but I've been pleasantly surprised.
cool, thanks for the reply. to be honest i have the same problem, i'm very keen to pick up a blonde double bass but finding a decent second hand one is a bit needle in a haystack so i've been looking at the various new cheapish ones but trying to pick between them is a bit tough without playing them... anyway i guess this is going a bit off topic. think i may need to start a thread about it and ask for advice cuz its starting to drive me mad

have you tried a blend pedal to mix the dirt in with the clean signal rather than completely change it? i messed around for ages with tons of distortions and fuzz effects until i sussed that what i was looking for was some way of adding the dirt to my sound without destroying my clean tone. i'm currently using a barge concepts VFB-2 to blend a fulltone bassdrive in with my other sounds and i'm really happy with the sound

thats what i'd heard about the lower strings but i haven't found them that bad at all, they are really thick though which took some getting used to. tone wise i get kinda of a dead thumpy sound but for what we're playing i think it works! shoulda said earlier, check out the link in my signature to 'the seven year itch' the full band songs on there are played on a stagg edb with weedwackers i see you have the blonde prima bass Dr Phibes, how is it?
-
i like the ones i use (i think they're the same as the ones you're getting...) but to be honest i'm pretty new to upright playing and the only other strings i've tried are the ones that come on a stagg edb... i think when/if i get a double bass i'll try out some decent strings but right now for the stagg these are cool, cheap and in my opinion an improvement in sound and feel over the stock strings

ok, putting this up on behalf of the guitarist in my band (i have one too but i'm keeping that!) he never uses this and right now his more pressing need is a pedal tuner as the behringer thing he has, has just fallen apart. its in good condition and works perfectly, i'll grab it from the rehearsal room tonight and take a couple of pics if anyone is interested so yeah, if anyone has a decent pedal tuner (korg dt-10 or something) they'd be up for trading let me know. Thanks Matt

trouble with hot rods and brushes is most drummers seem very reluctant to even try them in my experience, i play drums as well and i really like using them for certain styles of music but trying to convince drummers of bands i've been in has proved very difficult indeed, they don't like change!

4 of my basses up for sale on Ebay
kingforaday replied to kingforaday's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I think the VMJ with the upgrades is a good deal for the buyer @ £225. That's the new online price for the VMJ, but they get all the considerable upgrades for free. Badass, nut, knobs, etc.
yeah, i thought it might fetch a little more but its all good, he came to pick it up which saved the hassle of a courier and he was a nice guy which always helps! -

just revieved a batt-o-meter from james, arrived quick and well packaged. nice one!

bought a dynacomp off james, packaged well, sent quick and he didn't even charge me postage! i'd have no worries dealing with james again thanks ***edited to correct a bit of a typo!

just completed the sale of my EBS multicomp to luis, it was a thoroughly easy transaction and he even saved me two trips to the post office by paying me the maximum that the postage would likely be and trusting me to get it weighed and sent and then refund him the difference. simples. thanks luis!

i'm thinking of downsizing my board and selling stuff i don't use off so the 1st thing to go is the feedback loop half of this pedal! its a 'Barge Concepts VFB-2 Variable Feedback / Bypass Looper' and i never use the feedback loop so i was wondering if anyone was up for a swap for a Vb-Jr? only pic i have of it at the moment is the shot of my board (its the pedal on the bottom left)
-
Finally got round to bringing this home from the practice room and took some photos of it: EBS Multicomp - Digitech bass Synth Wah (used for octaver only) - Dunlop 105Q wah - Fulltone bass drive - Sansamp VT bass - Carbon Copy - Nano Small Stone Phaser - Barge Concepts Blend/Loop box i made the pedal board myself and being that i'm no carpenter (and most things i do turn out looking like they were assembled in the dark) i'm actually really chuffed with how it turned out. Couple of nice touces (i think!) are the raised back of the board so it angles towards me and i can slide my mic stand underneath and the riser that the Phaser and Delay are on... that way the leads going to and from the Loop box pass underneath and it saves space. Raised Back: Raised Platform: however! just been in the studio recording a bunch of songs i had rehearsed with this board and i only ended up using the VT, Fulltone and blend! everything else just seemed unnecessary once i had a good sound going... ah well it was fun puting it together!
