5. This is a debate that cannot be possibly agreed by all In principal less is more, yes but, if you can create wonderful lines and have the skill to play them well, then who are we to say "just stick to root and fifth"? It's what we hear and notice that matters, for example I recently heard a very very old song on the radio by Janis Joplin, "Peace of my heart" of which I had never noticed how busy the bass was but thanks to my dab radio that has a good sound spectrum, the bass comes through very clean and defined, and when I heard that song I thought f*** me this is not a bass line, this is a bloody bass workout! A busy line from beginning to end, and yet, it does add tension and relief to the song in all the right places making it very enjoyable.
6. Very nice indeed and about time that PRS introduced the SG range to the basses too, they've had SG guitars for over 25 years now, the next logical step was adding a bass range too. After all PRS doesn't exactly have a large choice of top line basses, it's just the Gary Granger and the model that followed without the GG signature. I'll be checking them out when they come to a store near me.

9. You could use those cheap luggage scales that they sell in Tesco, pretty accurate too http://www.tesco.com/direct/uni-com-digital-luggage-scales/215-8177.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=215-8177&sc_cmp=pcp_GSF_Bags%20%26%20Luggage_215-8177kpid=215-8177&sc_cmp=ppc_g__&gclid=CjgKEAjwzcWcBRCat43fy9e5i3ASJADXOBwut2P_ukPoXvV91LvmB6K32YyH_8wkiXewCYo9fkdUD_D_BwE
10.
In principle we're looking to compare as many different basses which fit the P bass "model" - obviously they'll all be tested in passive mode (if you're bringing an active P bass) - however we may have to be flexible on the day. For now we're looking at variety to test whether people can/can't tell the difference. I'll discuss it with Lozz who's running the test.
Ok never mind then, I'll pass. Cheers You lot are frettists.... (prejudiced againt fanned frets) so ram it up your ..... I ain't coming.

12. Ahhh the lovely Palladingo!! Great bass, well done Gary it was a pleasure to assist with the Italian vendor.
13. Fender High Mass bridges are the dog's blxs they are so good that hat it really doesn't matter if you don't get BadASS'es anymore.
14. A bit of a late notice but I've only just found out about this, https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/events/ike-willis-and-zappatika-just-passin-thru-tour-2014 Friday, May 16, 2014 - 20:00 Thameside Theatre, Orsett Road, Grays, Essex Tickets £13.50 available here: http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?agency=THAMSIDE&organ_val=22879&schedule=list&event_val=0EA6 American vocalist and guitarist, Ike Willis was a regular member of Frank Zappa's studio and touring bands from 1978 until the final Broadway The Hard Way world tour of 1988. Willis is also the voice of the Thing-Fish, and Joe on Joe's Garage. Ike and ZAPPATiKA last joined forces on stage with a dynamic three hour headline show at the Zappanale Festival in Germany in 2010. ZAPPATiKA was formed in 2007 with the intention of performing some of Frank Zappa's music - but also to further develop the bands' own eclectic rock compositions. They have toured in various European countries with their live Zappa show, and in March 2013 they headlined the first night of Festival MOO-AH! in Corby, Northants. The Just Passin' Thru tour is a whirlwind trip through Holland, Belgium and the UK. As the only concert in the South-East of Great Britain, this is a major coup for the Thameside. Support comes from Gumbo Variation, a psychedelic Afro/Latin jazz/rock jam band from Norwich. The way we see it, this should be a very dynamite show! I've got my show and will be there if anyone wants to meet up. Couldn't miss it for the world
15. well chaps I'm not into comparing dicks, believe what you like and leave it as that!
16.
Are you sure about that? AFAIAA the only US parts known to have been fitted to JVs were the pickups on the very first Strats.
Yes I am sure, the parts imported directly from US were, pickups, bridges, pots and looms, pick guards , machine heads, body cutting jigs, and even neck blanks only for the whole maple neck / maple fingerboard necks. This from the Fender book "The Golden Era of Fender" "Fender acted by setting up its own official Japanese manufacturing operation, Fender Japan, in March 1982. A joint U.S.-Japanese venture, Fender Japan produced guitars with material and technical support from Fender’s U.S. facilities; Japanese manufacturing facilities even included factories that had been producing the aforementioned Fender copies. By May, Fender Japan had six vintage instruments—’57 and ’62 Stratocaster models, a ’52 Telecaster, ’57 and ’62 Precision Bass® models and a 62 Jazz Bass®."
17.
Buy a current Squier CV in Fiesta Red and wait 30 years?
Well I did, but they're not quite in the same league, I had to completely modify it, pickups, pots and wiring loom well below par. The CV had Mickey Mouse machine heads too. Whereas all the parts from the JV were original American Fender parts sent to Japan to be assembled there. So no not really worth keeping it 30 years expecting it to be just as sought after in my opinion.
18. This also reminded me of a thing I witnessed back in 1989, I was at the Manchester Guitar Show which was held at the UMIST (University) and Patrick Eggle had his little stand with all these guitars which really were all PRS copies and Paul Reed Smith himself walked up to him and gave him a massive b*ll*cking about the fact that his guitars were exact copies, I still remember the language used, "Why can't you get your own f****ing design instead of copying my effing geetars?" and Patrick Eggle was all apologetic saying "well look they are not exactly the same, my neck joint is different as is the tremolo, I am sorry if you think they look the same I never intended to copy your guitars" Paul Reed Smith started giving him back some threat of suing his company when Eggle's mom or sister stepped in and said ok go on sue us and be done with it" Eventually a couple of dudes from PRS stand came to calm him down and steer him away. I was all hoping for a good old brawl with guitars smashed on the heads, but it wasn't to be. I believe PRS did attempt to sue but, I don't think he won.
19. Back in the days, Patrick Eggle used to copy every thing Paul Reed Smith did, late 80's to early 90's so that New York bass was a copy of the PRS 4 which the body is as big as a guitar one but the neck is still a 34" scale you can see what a REAL PRS looks like in my signature pic and how small it looks side by side to other basses.
20. I bought the very same one in Sunburst back in 1983 for £230 new, that was stolen in 1985. Best P Bass I have ever had. Still the prices which these basses are reaching is becoming ridiculous. 21. Fender / Alembic / Wal / Steinberger / Kubicki / JD / Ken Smith / Spector / Vigier are part of what I consider the all time Hall of Fame of the past, but in current times, if you asked me who are the best bass designers of the present which will echo as much as the above guys for years to come, I would have the following in no particular order. Jens Ritter / Sheldon Dingwall / Xotic / Skjold / Rob Allen / Fodera are definitely up there in my opinion.
22. Like most, I find the colour and gold hardware bling a bit too vulgar, to me it says Abu Dhabi boudoir's bathroom or something Bootsy Collins would dig. HOWEVER *blip* me! What an absolute result at last that it comes with a) the passive / active option and that you have a passive tone control. Back in the day when I was quite a fan of MM stuff, and I was still a member of their forum, I suggested to their design team ( BP that is) that perhaps having a Stingray with a switchable passive option would be a useful alternative to those who find their pre-amp too nasal and often too overpowering at the expenses of feel and individual nuances. It all went downhill from there with BP thinking I needed my head checked. But hey-ho 5 years later here he is designing the very thing.
23. While I had it here I did a neck swap to see what that bass looked like with the roasted maple neck and it did look pretty cool, have a look ABII 5 Spalted Maple body with roasted maple neck by F. 24.
Cheers guys. I cannot say I have ever played a bass, owned or otherwise, that just feels so natural in my hands. Hate the cliché, but it really does play itself. Each of it's pickup settings offer something completely different and all are usable in their own way. Wonderful acoustic tone to the neck pickup solo'd and sounds great in passive too. Did I mention it was light?
You forgot to mention that it was set up by me. I set up all my basses in the same way, taking everything into consideration, action, neck relief, pickup height and saddle's intonation. I don't leave it until I am satisfied that everything is set up to the best, as I have explained to you in my email, since these neodymium pickups are so responsive even the slightest change in string height will affect how the pickup sound so you need to always adjust their heights every time you raise or lower the bridge saddles. I am glad you are enjoying the bass.
