1.
I hope that £21 included postage...
Ahhhh, well... that was extra. Doesn't seem like such a bargain if I say it was 31 quid.
 2. How about a nice un-relic'd Ibanez MC924?
 3. Hehe! I was actually looking for a fuzz pedal, saw this and stuck a bid on and forgot about it. The chrome's wearing off the tuners and there's a bit of rust, and i's got a couple of dinks and scrapes, so maybe I should list it on Ebay as a 'rare 80's relic'...
 4. Well for the princely sum of £21 (!) I got myself one of these beasts: Yep, a Marlin Sidewinder (not the horn!). I know they don't find much favour on these pages, and I think if I was looking for something I had to lug around every night to gigs I'd have doubts- it has a hundredweight of prime ply for a body. But otherwise it plays nicely, sounds brilliant (no, really!) and came with a brand new set of strings! It seems pretty similar to my Hohner Arbour (which is my favourite bass for recording) although the bridge pickup is much clearer and punchier. Not sure I'm keen on the single volume, but I can live with it for now. So, scoff and jeer if you will, I think: 'Result!' Pity about the fish on the fretboard. Sorry about the huge picture btw- it's the only decent one I could find on the web that wasn't on Gumtree or Ebay!
 5. Hi- I'll have the Bogdan if Sibob doesn't take it.
 6.
Or am I being too harsh by expecting musicians to know what they're doing? Christ I've stopped bringing my fretless to gigs because no one hears the difference and it wastes time on stage I find, especially when we don't play to a set list. No one notices so it stays at home. Less to carry, less to go wrong, less time wasted. Dan
Right enough. I'm also down to one guitar (plus a spare) at gigs- mainly due to laziness though.
When I was playing guitar I would use between 2 and 6 presets per song. Each song had it's own set of presets sensibly arranged next to each other in the multi-effects memories and all were tweaked to fit with the other instruments' sounds in the song. At one point when we were also using sequencers and samplers in the set the patch changes were handled by the sequencer so they all happened automatically without me needing to be anywhere near a pedal board. This was all accomplished by spending a lot of time between rehearsals working on the sounds and then a little time with the whole band making fine adjustments. Once I'd got the patches right for a song I never had to touch them again.
Blimey! I don't think I could handle that! It implies you knew what you were doing- both tech-wise and playing. Not sure I could manage that!
 7.
A friend used to play guitar in a rock band and had 3 different distortion pedals with different settings. Why I asked him, he told me it was because they had different qualities.
That's fair enough
There is no way your guitarist NEEDS 16 pedals. And to take 2 hours setting up he is wasting everyones time including his own.
There's a thin line between want and need... however, I couldn't agree more about the second point. My rig has 13 pedals in one case, with one universal psu and a psu for my Holy Grail reverb, a lead in, a lead out and the whole thing takes about five minutes to set up.
 8.
I suspect he works in local government.
Iceland, actually. I think he wants to be their next Stacey Solomon!
 9. I also use tons of pedals (despite trying to downsize). The key to doing this is to prepare in advance, good cabling (ie reliable!) and having them all on an easy-to-deploy pedalboard.
Also I've discovered that in the majority of live band situations you can't tell the difference between the majority of single pedals and the same effect from a decent multi-effects unit which has the added advantage of giving me exactly the same sound every time I call up a particular preset.
This is no doubt true, but I can never manage to just have 'a preset'!
 10.
Anybody who uses the word "gotten"... well... enough said!
11. I am tempted to post the entire email that our departing singer sent - to the drummer, mind- myself and the bassist were never officially informed; we had a pre-gig practice, and it was only when I asked whether he was going to tell us he was leaving that he bothered to mention it! "I don't enjoy practise sessions anymore and the pressure of learning new songs is getting to me and pulling my focus away from the things in life I like doing*. Ideally from my point of view I'd say we have a set of songs we know play well and generally enjoy. I just don't have the drive anymore for adding to that but I'm certainly up for doing those gigs. "It's certainly nothing personal but it's gotten to the point where I look at a sheet of paper with words I can't relate to and spend all week trying to force myself to like them... Even after I'm gone I'll help where I can, promotion and looking for gigs, and stuff if you like " *Karaoke! after 9 months of work and starting to get gigs it was a bit of a pisser...
 12.
http://soundcloud.com/steffe
Cheers- I'll have to check that out when I get home
 13.
Have you heard Mr Sharpstrings' new music? Pretty damn nice!
I've heard some of the Ici Maintenants stuff (Space and Time album)- but that was from 2003. Lovely guitar and synthi-burbles. Just like old times, lol.
 14.
pales into insignificance beside the nik turner albums you brought along.
It's never been the same since; like there's always something missing. Probably sunstroke and paranoia!
And a spinoff from the same roots - Fantasy Shift by Here & Now
'All Over The Show' by Here&Now is my favourite- live punky prog in the same vein as the Planet Gong Album but without Daevid Allen and the girly voices. Brilliant! Based most of my style on Steffi Sharpstrings guitar playing!
 15. Rickenbackers have always been my 'dream' instruments- the 360 guitars and the 4001/ 3 bass- and I have always wanted to own them. As a guitarist I have a 360/12 and a 360/ 6, but have never managed to get the bass. Why? They just never quite do it for me; like many of the previous posters, I can never get 'the sound' (that clanky, gravelly but full-bodied seventies thing, like on old Renaissance records) and they never feel right for me. The bassist in the band I'm in has one, and I don't like playing it. Also, it doesn't 'sound like a Ric' when he plays it either. Anyway, I'm glad I found this thread, coz I thought it was just me. I think I'm gonna stick with my old Hohner PJ style.
 16.
we all on the jazz fags tonight ?
At the risk of being accused of unwelcome thread resurrection, might I cast your mind back to 1990... something... The Tangier Flandria Hotel and Planet Gong's 'Floating Anarchy'? The Terror!
 17. You mentioned Aldi. I'll take it! Paypal gift ok?
