  1. Black Raven do one for the Full fat Helix. It’s a full ‘cover’ like a clear plastic/acrylic overlay and for the LT too. Not sure about other sizes. Are you needing to just cover the screen/scribble strips or the whole unit and which unit are you covering.
  2. Good to know!
  3. Such a great bass and quality colour.
  4. Sherwood Green is a sleeper colour. You don’t think you like it but then you behold it’s beauty. Relic’d Sherwood is even better! Having had the neck off this is a 2008 model not that it makes a difference but it is playable. I also took the lacquer off the neck to suit me. Feels great!
  5. I’m actually happy with the bass as it sounds but it’s the lure that something else may be better but I’ll certainly not make any changes until the new year if I do go that route. I’ll just tell folks I’ve put in some unheard of esoteric brand and no one will be any the wiser. The green has turned out as hoped (phew) but I’ll likely need to touch it up. The back is a bit patchy but not overly concerned for now out of sight out of mind. pretty straightforward to do if anyone was thinking about it.
  6. Terrible picture but you get the idea.
  7. So I may have refinished the bass in Sherwood green...
  8. Yeah I’m not a massive fan of super zingy top end and since adding the new pots/loom the tone control is working as hoped. For me rolling tone back bit and a touch off the back pick up (5-10%) is enough to remove enough zing and colour the sound but still get that jazz thing if I dig in or need to throw the thumb at it for any reason
  9. I think the 60’s winds are meant to be quite open and some seem to have a nice bottom low mids thing. I’m pushing that freq area with a tone hammer but if I can get something voiced that way perfect. I’ve done a basic set up on the cv since getting it but haven’t changed pick up height. Gonna make some measurements before stripping the body for the respray so I’ll experiment then. Good call
  10. Yeah I'm still a bit torn over replacing the pick ups but it's early days yet. As I said it's a familiar sound of a jazz and the contrast to what I have is fun but listening to a few examples online - always a terrible idea - some are standing out as being a perceived improvement over what I have/what I'm after from this little gem. I had Model J's in my last jazz but I think I'd like this to be a bit more traditional. I'm unlikely to be solo'ing the bridge and like the 60's vibe over the 70's vibe. The Aguilar 60's wind and the Fender CS60's are working for my taste plus I've been strongly advised to try Creamery jazz pick up's. So much choice and I may find myself giving them all a shot at some point. I know total folly!
  11. All's well that ends well!
  12. The Narcissim of Small Differences... kinda Parkinsons Law...kinda A reactor SYNTH PEDAL is so vastly expensive and complicated that an average person cannot understand it, so one assumes that those who work on it understand it. On the other hand, everyone can visualize a cheap, simple bicycle shed MANUAL, so planning one can result in endless discussions because everyone involved wants to add a touch and show personal contribution.
  13. Nae harm pal!
  14. The 'Dusty Hil' is a standard 51 pick up shape - the Split 51 is in a jazz pick up format/case. Gotta give the people what they want!
  15. Another tip which might help for slapping especially on the more rhythmic stuff is learn/internalise the groove finger style first especially if grasping a certain technical aspect feels a bit tricky first off. Learn the basic feel then apply the techniques. If you can play along to an example finger style mimicing ghost notes/groove with the right hand then understanding and applying the right hand slap/pop techniques may come easier. Worked for me on some stuff and good way to separate the left and right hand parts when initially learning a new lick/groove.
  16. Where the song calls for it yeah. It's not often needed in the stuff we do but there are a couple of the tunes where I can get away with some disco octaves and a slap here or there if I fancy throwing it in. Learning some new covers for a dep gig and it works better in some of those tunes. I tend to do very limited slapping but i can if I need to kinda thing and will mess about more at home then on a gig. It's a very specific sounding technique and doesn't always work regardless of what we think! MarloweDK has some great slap tutorials too. Learning slap can be a little 'easier' on 4 string but at least it'll mean you're developing good muting technique on the 5'er - the low b can be a pain initially unless you work the example for the e string off the b.
  17. Look forward to hearing some live samples! You running this with a passive bass or one of your actives?
  18. Yeah I recall when this series was first released and people rightly got very excited. A very solid bass in it's own right. I'll be doing a refin on mine to Sherwood Green! Let's hope I don't F it up
  19. One of these might do a good 50's era P sound. https://nordstrandaudio.com/collections/4-string-jazz-bass-pickups/products/51-split-j-1
  20. Yeah the cabs sims aren’t as extensive but you’ll find one the covers the basics and it’ll sound ‘better’ than a direct DI for your purposes. You may be able to get others from third party but I’m not aware of seeing many berg cab sims.
  21. The noise floor will always be dictated by the drums -is the singer finding the bass too loud or is it the sound she's not liking? You mentoned before you like an aggressive growl, pushing mids type sound. Is that part of the issue and would a more 'supportive' bass sound be less apparent to her? I know I always had a battle with a former MD in a choir gig that she likes a more treble forward bass sound and I preferred a more classic bass sound. It was a balance/compromise on many gigs to get us both happy. Maybe some eq tweaking and volume matching could help with what she's hearing - those upper mids could be fighting with her perceived vocal space?
  22. The cab choice/mic choice I found was a really good way to do a global 'eq' type thing too - some sounding quite deep and others more mid bumped. Often that was enough to define the sound with eq used to make small adjustments. Lot's of options to experiment with just takes patience and time!
  23. Don't forget the post di out (and headphone out I believe) has cab sim too on the new DG heads so you can sound authentic going into the PA/IEM if that's a route you take - you will have to (gasp) do some pc editing to load/choose your preferred cab sim but it's pretty simple so long as you have the right cable. Also your Stomp will/would* (delete as appropriate) have been perfect in this setting too as you could run an amp/cab sim to the desk via one output and have no fx (amp/cab sim) going via another output to the actual bass amp and with the eq and mic options have got the perfect balance of lows and highs relatively quickly.
  24. Don't get me started on the wealth of eq adjustments
